  1. Ford Motorsports E303 cam seems to be a good power stick. Anything that lopes at idle but still very streetable is good for me with this car. If I get the tee-ruk in the next couple of months, I'll also be looking to pick up used parts for the build as well, gents...
  2. In conjunction with my recent thread about a free 1994 F-150 I may be picking up, I've pretty much decided that I want to V8-swap my 1995 BMW 318. It's a 4-cyl with 140k miles that I DD, and aside from dancing around overheating issues it's been a very fun car to own and drive. For only being 138hp and 3100lbs, it's the car my 2 kids love the most (even over the V and the Lincoln) and I do have a blast tearing around C'Bus as a 10/10ths-throttle car. I need to get the truck first, but may look at doing this swap over the winter or early in 2018. Why V8 swap it? 1) If I got rid of my BMW, I would only want another 4-seater, RWD, stick-shift convertible with more power to replace it. Why spend a chunk of coin for a new ride when I can just keep the BMW and throw another 100-200hp on a great chassis? 2) Still looks BMW-cool, which I'll sheepishly admit helps around UA. :gabe: 3) Adds USA-power and ease-of-maintenance to a proven platform already riddled with a rich aftermarket for parts. 4) My BMW already has an LSD rear diff with 4.11 gears from the factory. Thanks pre-OBDII "cold weather kit"! No LSX? 1) Engine and ECU will be an easy $1-2k minimum. T56 will be $1500+ on the cheap end. 2) Swap kits are 'SPENSIVE. Vorschlag is $3500? 3) 400hp+ is not the point of my BMW. If I can get sexxxy V8 brapping and 250-300hp for cheap I'll be a happy man. LESS PARTS TO BREAK. Ford 5.0 = 1) Free engine/ECU from friends' dead-dad's F-150. 2) $250-$500 1999-2004 Mustang V6 T5 trans good for 350ft/lb, can be rebuilt with hand tools for cheap. 3) Swap kit is engine mount brackets and trans crossmember for $300. Exhaust work and ECU rewiring will be the toughest parts. 4) LSx rules (I own an LS3 CTS-V) but Ford 5.0 will still have aftermarket support until the death of the internal combustion engine. Anyone still familiar with EFI 5.0 modifications for cheap? What works, best bang for the buck? I'm hearing aluminum heads are the way to go. What cams, intakes? Just looking to start the CR discussion now so I have a good resource later to look back on with local folks. Thanks!
  3. Keep yer Texas in TEXAS, hombre. We need a TSA filter between us and the hurricaney craziness of the Durty South. Plus, srsly doe, I'm not sure how Hyperloop would be influenced by the Mississippi River... I do wonder - if you see the video on their Hyperloop One website - about how much electricity is needed to create the vacuum needed downstream in the pipes. I notice the sultry British woman's voice says the "car" needs very little electricity to propel it to 670mph, but it seems like the supporting systems will all need a HUGE amount of electricity! This is very exciting, considering that the greatest resource this system will consume - electricity - is the one renewable resource that Elon has done more to make commercially viable in creation, use, and sustainability than anyone else in decades. Oh, yes...I'm also curious what the tubes will be constructed with, since airplane fuselages go through thousands of pressurization cycles but eventually succumb to metal fatigue. I know that they are made out of thin aluminum for lightness and rigidity, but would a composite or concrete Hyperloop tube survive decades of use? Hundreds of thousands of vacuum/pressure cycles? Once Hyperloop is opened, anyone want to do a Kickstarter to put a Yugo in one from Chicago to Columbus? 670mph, the fastest a Yugo has ever gone before? :gabe:
  4. That's a term when Miller had his Mercedes C300.....those mid-level German sedans are a way for younger guys/girls that make $30k a year to "fake it 'til you make it" appearing as millionaires. It's all tongue-and-cheek. I've seen a few 335 hardtop convertibles that have definitely piqued my interest. Prices are coming waaay down. Even with the problems, it seems the aftermarket understands how to solve/improve on them.
  5. I've got a pic of them towing half an Eldorado. Towed it to Woody's for $200 scrap.
  6. I'm a AAA member and have unfortunately used towing services a few times this summer. Never a problem and always free or a few bucks if it's over 3 miles.

    Elio

So I've been interested in Elio in the past, but definitely off them now. However, if there is a market for this type of vehicle, why hasn't Campagna or Polaris created an enclosed version of their trikes? Srsly, if someone could put a Vintage Air A/C system in an enclosed (or better yet, removable hardtop/convertible) version of a Slingshot, I would think there is additional market share out there to be had. EDIT: Nevermind. I see that they have a hardtop option. Plus, changing it to an enclosed cabin would dramatically affect the styling, with how crazy the thing looks. http://www.carscoops.com/2016/07/polaris-updates-slingshot-range-for.html

  9. Agreed. I'll take the unpopular stance of saying "responsible" car guys need to have the provision of keeping proper storage/maintenance of our vehicles. I like seeing old-school mechanic/salvage/body shops where guys have racks of parts and fields of cars going back decades...but that only makes sense if you're running a business. No one is impressed by the 2, 3, 5, or 216 cars you have in your driveway/backyard if the property/vehicles aren't maintained.
  10. DOOD! That Greenwood Corvette is excellent. Sucks to be an automatic, but you're not really going to beat anyone anyways these days. That thing is all about cruising, and spirited handling. Great price too.
  11. I agree that you should definitely try to keep this one. Though, $6500 does sound like a good price to part ways with it :gabe:
  12. Geebus! Heavy thread for 9am, but I do appreciate the need to put these stories out there to help cope. Ohio has some terrible drivers but FL is such a huge, populated state the highways are just very fast, dangerous places to be...as in, lots of people going fast that shouldn't be.
  13. AGREED. I see kids sticking their heads out of windows (on busy roads!) and instantly I start scanning around going "Please tell me a cop is watching this Please tell me there's a cop watching this" Quite frankly, even if the kid isn't injured/killed in an accident as a result of improper restraint, I can't help but pass a liiiiiiiittle judgment on the parent/guardian driving the car; makes me wonder what other sorts of bad decisioning is going on in that child's upbringing. :gabe: BTW, I'm already a terrible parent as I brought up a similar topic when I started my famiry. .. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84524&highlight=corvette+seat
  14. Evo8 wheels on a Galant VR-4 = teh sexors. :megusta:
  15. My 6yo in the back of the BMW has the shoulder belt go right across his shoulder blade and chest. He's very comfy back there and so am I. Not disagreeing with you, but after kids get to about 50lbs and or 4' in height, certain seating arrangements in comfortable with.
  16. Is that metal that's powercoated, or painted? Or is it some sort of heavy plastic?
  17. Someone suggested uShip.com for a quote - dunno if I want to be spammed to death just yet. Anyone that knows some good ol' Ohio boys with a diesel dually and 5th wheel car carrier... Again, I'm not firm on details, but will consult CR if this deal starts to flesh out.
  18. Saturday night at an OSU Buckeyes party, I was talking with a good friend whose estranged father passed away earler this year, leaving some junk that his cray-cray GF is wanting him to get rid of. He brought it up because his dad had a mid-90s, magenta-fantastic Flareside F-150 with only 40k miles on it but rusty, along with two '90s Ford Festivas (one a beater DD, the other a parts car). He is NOT a car guy, and just wants them gone so he can settle with probate. He said I could have all three for $1 each. Of course, in a partially inebriated state I happily agreed. Now, I'm not so sure. Would anyone know how much it is to ship 3 non-operating cars from Van Wert-area to Columbus? Does anyone honestly care about old Festivas anyway? The F-150 needs a brake line but It's a given that I want the F-150 if only for parts, let alone to fix up and have/sell another truck. I'm just wondering if all of this is worth the effort to have at least 2 more cars I really don't need. He's going to get back to me in the coming weeks as they want to settle ASAP. As I get older I just wonder if Festiva's are worth the effort to fix up to sell, or transport them to my control for eventual scrapping.
  19. Saw pics on FB...that thing looks sweet! Modded Harley's are where it's at: let someone else pay full price for quality mods and then you enjoy the depreciation!
  20. Love that old 80s plate. Need more pics of that car.
  21. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! My in-laws went down to Naples this weekend to check things out. My Cavalier took some palm debris damage to the body, light stuff. It never flooded where I parked it but he didn't get my keys to start it up. However, he said there really wasn't any indication that the car wouldn't be fine. I'm going to hold off until I go down for Thanksgiving to confirm it's operational. Sounds like it should be. No need for me to plan on buying another car anytime soon. Thanks again!
