  1. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130656&highlight=roadking+roof

After hearing back from 3 shops, it's becoming painfully obvious that I'm likely doing the roof replacement on my '75 RV myself. Two of the main issues are age of the vehicle (Wilsons RV won't touch anything older than 20years) and project creep (possible interior panel replacement) making an already expensive job even worse. My family loves this vintage RV so I've got nothing to lose with all the info available on the internet.

Does anyone have scaffolding to get up and around a roof that's 9-10'(at highest) off the ground? Sunbelt rental adds up with multiple weeks and multiple 6' scaffolding frames, boards etc...

I don't mind buying used scaffolding and then flipping it after the job, but happy to rent for 4-6 weeks as well and pay someone directly. I can access the roof from a ladder but will likely be replacing plywood and other trim components that would make a scaffold platform a more secure and enjoyable place to work. Please advise what resources you have!

  2. Here's my take. I don't know what the articles of impeachment that are currently being debated look like, but the draft I read over the weekend laid out a very clear accusation against Trump. Specifically, that he:

    1. Made up lies about rampant election fraud, which

    2. Convinced a lot of his supporters that he, Donald Trump, was the true winner of the election and should remain president on 21 Jan. That he

    3. Organized an event, incriminatingly called "STOP THE STEAL," at the White House on the day that the EC was to be certified. And he

    4. Told the mob that he had gathered at the event that he would lead them to the Capitol building in order to do exactly what they gathered there to do, so that he could

    5. Remain in power despite having lost the election.

The facts are not in dispute, even among top Republicans. These top Republicans include, but are not limited to, Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell, former AG Bill Barr, at least 2 of Trump's few remaining cabinet secretaries, and unofficially (via Lindsay Graham), Trump's own legal counsel and chief of staff.

Since those facts are stipulated to by "both sides," the only thing left to debate is whether or not those facts should result in Trump's removal from office. Personally, it seems insane to me that someone who tried to steal the presidency by force, an effort which resulted in multiple deaths, would be left in control of the nuclear codes or anything else in the executive branch, even for 5 minutes. I can't believe he's still in power right now, although you get the impression from Graham and others that he's basically a cuck in his own White House.

You'll notice that nowhere in the above do I mention leftist violence or BLM. The debate is strictly about Trump's actions, and what to do about them, and additionally, what to do about the Republican leadership like Cruz and Hawley who went along with his lies about election fraud and his little charade about objecting to the EC certification. I would like something to happen to those people, but I'm not holding my breath.

If you think that specific politicians on the left instigated violence, as the part of your post I quoted suggests, then by all means, level an accusation as succinct as the accusation levied against Trump in the impeachment article and we can debate it. But we need specifics, because I don't know who you're referring to or what specific violence they're responsible for. If your claim is simply that encouraging BLM protests rises to the level of "inciting violence" as the direct attack on the Capitol 5 days ago, then I don't think that claim has much merit, nor does it have any bearing on the impending impeachment. If your claim is that Democrats didn't denounce the violence the led from some BLM marches, then I can provide cites (some are in the previous thread) countering this.

If you think that in general, leftist rabble rousing hasn't been handled with the same level of condemnation that we're now seeing against the right, then I agree 100%. And we can discuss that as well if you'd like. But pointing this out is not a defense of Trump, and it does nothing to address the immediate concern of the fact that we have an insurrection in the White House, still in power, still able to fuck up democracy for another 9 days.

If you think that leftist violence needs to be handled more thoroughly, then now is a chance for Republicans to take the high road and show Democrats how it's done. Impeach Trump, remove him from office, and then sit up on top of Capitol Hill and say, "This is what you should have done when the left was rioting in the streets." Shame the Democrats from a position of moral superiority. But letting a literal insurrectionist get away with violence against our own government because of a general sense of unfairness doesn't make sense to me.

    Well said above.

Emphasis mine on two very important points I hear Trumpers glossing over because it's more convenient for their narrative to do so.

  3. I have no experience with high-performance engine builds (just hanging parts on longblocks and wrenching back into vehicles), but having seen a couple Coyote-swapped Fox bodies at CC&C I have to agree with this assessment above for 2 reasons:

    1) Pushing 350-400hp from a 5.0L/302 is going to cost a lot of money, and you're still saddled with an old-tech 302 in the end anyway.

    2) Even a zero-mile sealed factory engine pushing 430+ hp for less than $10k is impressive regardless of the powerplant.

You're talking about a good investment in $$$ for a guy/shop to fix your car. I'd future-proof it by doing a take-out Coyote/trans swap with aftermarket parts.

  4. Are you f**king kidding me??? I saw that first pic and was like "Oh shit, Tim's got his work cut out for him today..."

    Agreed...nothing short of amazing.

Now, with that much oxidation/scratching, is it safe to say there's not much clearcoat left? If David doesn't flip it, will there be more hazing without some sort of permanent fix that he'll need to do down the road?

  5. I just bought a 1975 CJ5, and while mine was a fraction of that price, I can tell you they are very uncomfortable to get in and out of, and the buckboard ride should only be tolerated for short distances.

If you REALLY want an old CJ, there are good ones out there for sub $10k...that’s just too much old tech for $25k.

  6. Not sure if thats directed at me or not.

I hope he does well for the country. I dont think that means to me when it means to the left, but if doesnt infringe on the 2A in any way and doesnt tax me into an oblivion I can support him. I dont think he/the foaming left will shy away from the "eat the rich" and the "hell yeah im gonna take your AR15" tho..

The question is something everyone should ask themselves. Every American.

The fact you couldn't answer it simply, but had to pile on pre-conditions for your support shows that you are part of the problem for the next 4 years. I didn't vote for Obama, but when asked I would say he was my President and I hope he does well. There, it was that simple.

Libs were saying #NotMyPresident thru Trump's term. If you think that bad behavior justifies your sentiment then I truly feel sorry for you and anyone else living in fear of our future as Americans.

Change is coming, because change is needed to survive, evolve, and thrive.

  7. When I had my dads RV RCD was going to take forever to quote and were a pain to even talk to. I gave up trying to use them.

I'm sure it's not cheap, and given that they sell a lot I'm sure half the battle will be trying to get me into a newer RV as well.

$195 just for the estimate is reasonable, but if anything I want an itemized breakdown of what work needs to be done. Maybe I can do some of the interior work and let them do the roofing.

  8. FYI, RCD RV appointment set last week, for January 29th. Ramey's RV Repair down south is February 12th...just for estimates!!!

Ramey's receptionist was very nice, warned me a similar-sized RV roof replacement recently quoted was $5200. I guess it's like everything mechanical: you get out of it what you put into it, and selling something well-worn is just trading one set of problems for another...

I don’t think those roofs were made to hold weight like a person.

Correct...I cut away some of the interior paneling and it looks like 2x2" or 2x3"....I wouldn't stand on that roof.

  9. Gerg, curious what your thoughts are on that heater. Please update at some point.

I've been looking at Menard's for Dyna-Glo's 5,000W or 7,500W for my 2-car attached as well. I've got 220v for a welder/compressor already so not opposed to using electric over gas/propane.

  10. I'm not sure what the amalgam is for that club head, but there are a few deeper nicks that won't come out very easily without being very careful around the lettering.

Are you going for a polished look? I'm wondering if a skilled powdercoater can get a level finish across that head, in the finish you desire.
