  1. I came here to compliment the excellent use of Meatwad. Thanks, Eric.
  2. Will the BBC bolt up to the exhaust manifolds? I always get leery that motor swaps from cheap mills seem like a good idea, until you're parts bill starts adding up by $50 and $250 increments....
  3. Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Including you, Steve I've read up on some of the historical issues with early R50 MINI Coopers...yes, thankfully since it's a stick (and I wouldn't have it any other way) and non-S (supercharged on early models) the only thing I'd have to worry about is the dual-mass flywheel and the P/S pump and fan, which are pricier parts but readily available on RockAuto. They have flywheel conversions, but I pretty much just need it to NOT RUST... Will report on the test drive. 7:45pm...I thought it was odd how very specific of a time that is... Kerry, the Cavalier is still in my possession and will ultimately get repaired, if the MINI doesn't tickle my wife's fancy that much. Some say $500 brake fix on an $800 car is junk-status already. Did I mention the fuel lines are next to go? If I have to fix it I will. If my wife OK's a nicer, lower-mileage car that's been garaged it's entire life, I'm all for that as well.
  4. We have a 2004 Cavalier sedan in FL that, at $800, seemed like a great car when I drove it down last year. Now, the brake lines are busted, and the fuel lines are next. It runs well, A/C works, I JUST PUT NEW TIRES ON IT, but the last thing I want to do when we visit is put new brake lines on it. My wife knows this. This evening, we are looking at a 2002 MINI Cooper that someone in UA is selling since they bought it new from MAG. It's only got 82k miles, and looks pretty cherry. Love DAT BLUE. Stick, non-S. Asking $4k obo, KBB looks like $3400 for excellent examples. I can't find the screenshot she emailed me but it looks exactly like this: http://www.usedcarsgroup.com/2002-mini-cooper-potomac-md-1336065095951624448-2.jpg PROS: Seems to be a really solid car from a good, one-owner home. I need a f**king solid-but-cheap car for FL and we all know on this board that those cars are rare birds. I do have a standing offer from the greasemonkey at Goodyear on Immokalee Blvd that they'll give me $900 for the Cavalier. CONS: When I drove the non-S MINI a few years ago at CarMax, it was a huge POS with warped brake rotors and an A/C system that blows ice cold...on your hands. I'm also nervous about first-model-year cars, like they haven't worked the kinks out. However, I do feel that pretty much whatever car my wife OK's I just need to buy, knowing the ask doesn't come often. WWCRD?
  5. This is (supposedly) totally new alternator. I did notice the back of the rectifier has a crack in the plastic housing and a little rectangular cap covering a couple of small terminals is exposed...wondering if this was damaged in shipping, or my buddy dropped it. No multimeter yet. Will check it out with an auto parts store tonight.
  6. My garage floor is from the 1960s. It'd be cool to have it look like the floor of some industrial loft office building, or a Giant Eagle Market District floor...all chunked up but still so epoxied it'll survive a nuclear blast...
  7. That slinger arm on trucks is a fascinating thing to watch (Jones seemed to be the first 10+ years ago but I see a lot of shops around Ohio using them).
  8. That is a LOT of fabrication. Curious what the price is...if it's $3k, there's a buyer out there.
  9. I see three Phillips head screws in the back that look to hold the rectifier to the back of the alternator. If the new alternator is bad, I'll do some more research into swapping rectifiers.
  10. Buddy gave me his 2002 VW Eurovan Westfalia to swap out the alternator and P/S pump that are making gawdawful noises when running. I got a new alternator from RockAuto - Remy 12117 - and swapped out alternators. The VW/Audi one was 120amp, and so was this one. When I start up the van, the "battery" light in the instrument panel goes on and from the lights it doesn't seem to be charging. Not having a working multimeter, I couldn't check the battery for voltage to confirm the alternator. SOOooo...I swapped in the old VW/Audi alternator: dash light goes away, bright DRL's and interior lights. looks like it's charging. - Does NAPA test alternators and starter motors? I'm sorry, but even after dropping off oil at Advance Auto on Bethel yesterday (not even buying anything), I am really just trying to avoid discount autoparts stores as much as possible from now on. - Any thoughts as to why the new alternator isn't triggering/exciting like the old, worn out factory alternator? If the "new" alternator is the culprit, I'll tell my bud to return the RockAuto one and get another...
  11. HPFP is $1500 and engine likes to kersplode? Been hearing that the Voodoo 5.2L in the Mustang GT350/GT350R's like to go pop at the track. Gives me a sad.
  12. LOL I've been thinking too much... help...me. I think this music sucks... HELP. ME.
  13. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=43220&endYear=2017&modelCode1=535XI&showcaseOwnerId=66537&makeCode1=BMW&startYear=1981&firstRecord=0&searchRadius=25&showcaseListingId=434701345&mmt=%5BBMW%5B535XI%5B%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&listingId=434129425&Log=0 These are surprisingly cheap for a turbo AWD German sedan that's not even 10-years/100k miles old...
  14. lol. My wife watches that dumb show.
  15. Inverse ETF. I was betting on "those damn mining and oil companies" sucking wind. They met my expectations.
  16. Yeezus Crust, I sold out a couple of days too early...DUST just did a reverse split and went through the roof. :yuno: YOU WIN SUMM, YOU LOOOSE SUMM...
  17. "GV AN F" They were thinking they could sell an add-on front lip for even more money...that's what they were thinking
  18. Ooof...I'd go with an eBay kit and do two J-pipes if the drone is too much. I drove a friends' 300ZX ('90s) before I got my C4 Corvette years ago, and I couldn't believe how much noise the aftermarket exhaust system made on the highway. Seriously, loudest street vehicle I've ever driven, and I've got some noisy ones....
  19. Paging PANDUH... In 21P's defense, "Ride" is a fucking addictive song.
  20. Didn't see that. It's not like his is factory fresh. I'd think that a Ford turbo'd 2.3L wouldn't be such an exotic beast to keep running right.
