Keep in mind (to Miller's point especially) that when these cars were being developed to hit new time/speed goals, they were innovating for their niche. That's always going to be expensive. I look at HOT ROD Magazine on a monthly basis and they have a page dedicated to that same month's issue 20yrs/40yrs ago...it's funny how hot-rodders couldn't make 300hp on a street small-block chevy for less than $4k+ (adjusted for inflation). Now, you can get a 300+hp LS motor that gets 20+ MPGs and is 50k+miles reliable from a junkyard.

I clicked on this thread because "Gnarly" was in the title. http://www32.homepage.villanova.edu/robert.w.caverly/meatwad.jpg Haven't been to Niagara either in forever. I'd suggest drinking and casino gambling.

I love the look of the Mk3 Supra: it's so Eighties - looks like a Japanese 3rd-gen Pontiac Firebird (hideaway headlights, recessed indicators, no grille) in the front with a 3rd-gen Chevy Camaro rear taillight treatment.

Took Daphne to orthodontist this morning at wife's recommendation. I stood there while they did the 6-month checkup. Dr. takes a look and says that, at her last visit in November, they were concerned with how her teeth were coming in, but since she's had some adult teeth she looks much better and no concerns for expanders at this point. Thanks, CR!

GIT'R DUN, Samsonite!

FWIW, on flat ground it looks a little better. And I would love to get MAX LOW, but as I mentioned I like the fact it's resting on these big bumpstops and still has room to drive and steer. Thank you for the honesty, brotatoe. Believe me, after numerous conversations with peeps and this thing hanging in the air for the last two weeks, I told myself on more than one occasion "WTF did I get myself into? This is going to turn out terribly." It helps to start with such a dinosaur of a chassis. I don't think I'd ever do anything this custom to a more modern car; I'd rely on aftermarket parts engineered for the application. After all my time, the money I theoretically saved could've gone towards better parts. (P.S. sorry about the edit...I hit that button instead of "quote" but I didn't change anything...)

Hey, guys... In our backyard, we have an ancient apple tree that's getting decimated by carpenter ants among other insects. nearly half of the tree broke in a storm last year. Now, I can see THROUGH the rotten core (no pun intended) of the trunk, and it scares me every time I mow under it...this thing is coming down. If anyone chops down trees as a side gig, or knows someone who does, PLEASE let me know. I'm happy to haul away the branches/trunks myself to yard waste, and even grind up the stump myself if necessary...this thing is about 30-40ft tall and there are a couple of power/cable lines close enough that I don't feel comfortable felling it myself. I'm holding onto a couple of flyers in the mail (DLL Tree Service, Scotts Tree Service), but as usual I want to hit up CR first. Thanks!

I know the welds hold....because I had to CUT THROUGH THEM ALL to move the lower mounts back. I tack-welded the plates on before assembling the suspension and realizing the bags were coming close to contacting a lower radius arm. Those welds held up well to the cut-off wheel. I'm pretty confident the plates - in the appropriate spot and fully welded at multiple seams - should hold now. That being said, when my wife said we should take the Lincoln out to Blaze Pizza on campus for dinner last night with the kids, I thought for a moment about some horrific accident from the welds breaking and I suggested we take the van until I put some shake-down miles on the lowrider. Thanks, gergles

Those were good times. Back when I could see the parking lot for the store, see an Impulse, and know Jono would treat me right.

Heard this on a T-Mobile ad...kind of like it.

http://imgur.com/uUurDTYl.jpg http://imgur.com/S9UYNBUl.jpg http://imgur.com/4wqX18wl.jpg Finished it up last night, after a truly marathon session of working Friday evening and nearly all of Saturday after CC&C. Very happy with the results. My initial thoughts: - I can go a little lower in the front by trimming the bumpstops, but as it sits (ON the bumpstops) the tires roll and I can actually steer. That's a nice advantage to me for this setup! It's amazing how much space the wheel wells have both front and rear. - Considering how I was able to do the wheel/tire setup for less than $700, and the suspension was roughly $1000 with all the nickle+dime bits, I am super happy with the stance and look. YES, I may have been able to skootch the wheels out with spacers in the rear, or use smaller tires to lay frame, but when it looks this good for rocking 235/75-15's, I'm happy. This car is meant to drive casually around town, but drive a good amount. - The ride is really interesting. It's firm, but floaty. the adjustability never gets old. I am really glad I have the Lincoln to do my first airbag setup, as it really does fit the bill. I get the VW/Audi guys with air-strut systems, but having a huge land yacht like this laid out so you almost step UP to get out of it puts a big smile on my face. Looking forward to cruising: and that's another thing - if you have a Mustang and you buy $3k+ worth of wheels/tires/suspension to go autoX'ing, hopefully you're happy with the performance. A project like this Lincoln has a MUCH lower goal to achieve : just look good while cruising loooow and sloooow. - The amount of fabrication - and redoing a few things - was intense for me. I've rebuilt the head on my BMW last summer, installed a rebuilt engine/trans into my truck, and done all kinds of maintenance/hop-up projects on vehicles I've owned over the years. There is something to be said when the project you're doing is a part designed or relatively close enough to fit on your car. When you have a couple of boxes of parts and people say "good luck!", it is a lot more of a strain on me to get it done. I ended up enjoying THE RESULT, but not the project. I'm glad it's done. I understand why the quotes I got from a couple of people were $3-4k initially to do an airbag suspension job on this Lincoln...it's just a huge unknown as to how to get it all to work! I'm proud to be a white-collar, suburbanite dad who owns a lowrider Lincoln Continental he built himself. I'll definitely enjoy cruising this summer/fall.

Always a great show. I think we're doing the St. Andrew's Festival Friday evening or else I'll grab the kiddos and go.

LOL. I heard Seth Rogan on Howard Stern...he cracked me up. I'm looking forward to seeing it, albeit at Carriage Place or Netflix. Having not seen it - but heard Seth's description - sounds funny the way the MPAA couldn't really wrap their heads around a food sex scene. Apparently they were good with it as long as the food didn't have any pubic hair (not kidding on that one)

Stubby Bob was going to be tough to follow up. In a way, I approve that this episode be so shitty.

http://imgur.com/nuMu18Qm.jpg http://imgur.com/cAKixcrm.jpg Silly gergles, I'm just trimming a bit...flattening out that ridge so the lower bag mount is more flush and facing more appropriately in line with the upper mount. Trust me, this angle works... http://imgur.com/NwPkHRgl.jpg 20-ton HF press - $160. For when it absolutely, positively HAS to leave the home it's been in for at least a couple of decades.

I should clarify that the braces definitely aren't needed for a few years, this is just something "recommended".

I just drove a coworkers A7 (stock) and it was an amazing car. Roofline is surprisingly low, but the lines, quality, versatility of the hatchback design are all major winners in my book.

My daughter is 8, and next week my wife wants me to go to the orthodontist to hear them talk about palate expanders. http://askanorthodontist.com/braces/what-is-a-rapid-palatal-expander/ As a kid I didn't need any braces, but my wife had them - I'm totally fine with that if necessary, and from the way her adult teeth are coming in we may need to go that route. My older brother is an endodontist (admittedly not an orthodontist) and he says the vast majority of palate expander cases are not needed. In addition, I had a family member that had a PE and they almost couldn't close their lips for a year before they ended up getting braces to bring it back in...just seems like a lot of money to do what your body is going to do naturally. I'm biased against this. Anyone have to deal with palate expanders for their kids or close cousins/nieces/nephews? Thanks!

LOL. Well done.

http://imgur.com/E1PfYpel.jpg #HoverLincoln under anesthesia. Front suspension cleared out, awaiting modded lower control arms for air bags. Will also need to weld new front shock absorber relocation brackets to the frame rails in the engine bay. http://imgur.com/dSS1BWtl.jpg Mmmm...guess which ends were up Jones' butt? The middle perch where the original coil spring sat - and also had bolt holes for the lower shocks which used to go through the spring - needs to be cut so the lower airbag mount can be welded. That will happen hopefully tomorrow. http://imgur.com/PxctXgYl.jpg FOR SALE: 4 coil springs for a 1978 Lincoln Continental. BARELY USED LOW MILES. :D http://imgur.com/iQjii8ml.jpg One more closeup of those beautiful lower control arms. My HF bearing/balljoint kit was no match. Buddy with a 20-ton press is going to help me tomorrow. For what it's worth, everything is in really solid condition. There's definitely a coating of rust, but the flaking you see is from the "Quaker Koat" undercoating which was laid on the underside when the car was sold. Probably cost a pretty penny but if Don was alive today he'd see that his forethought saved this boat from rusting out completely.

Yup. That, or if you know someone at a dealership who can fill out an out-of-state vehicle inspection form. That will repace the deputy registrar inspection.

I'm putting the V and Lincoln in storage this winter from December-April. I have OWL tires on my wife's Odyssey...I'd rock some cheap RWL tires no problem on my V and NGAF.
