Aftermarket wheel center caps...how to measure/order?
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Could you post a similar link to what you bought? -
I've been saying it for years...at CC&C, I'm surprised at all the car guys I meet and quickly find out they are on CR, but not active. Hearing Ant and Tina discuss CR's demise on FB makes me sad. I understand it's a lot of work, but it's still disappointing to hear. There are a lot of guys who leverage this website, 18+ years on...

Aftermarket wheel center caps...how to measure/order?
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Thanks, guys. I didn't notice the comments from yesterday to today. Stock caps are slightly smaller...call it 65mm? They just fall into the void. Shaun, there is a slight ridge that technically would be wider than 67mm by a hair all around. That pic looks perfect, where the tabs could be bent slightly outwards to clip in. https://www.ebay.com/i/163788204055?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=163788204055&targetid=541454149812&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9014901&poi=&campaignid=6470552634&mkgroupid=81274458647&rlsatarget=pla-541454149812&abcId=1139336&merchantid=8227724&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwdK5ttuu5gIVoINaBR0ESQ42EAQYBCABEgKohPD_BwE These look like they clip in and would be at the perfect depth from the wheel face. Thanks for the offer, Kerry - if I can get eBay/Amazon parts I'm going to go that direction. -
That looks like a HUGE turbo for $500!! Love the progress.

Wieand?? Nice article, Wags!

I'll take it! Also, test-fit all the wheels as I wanted to roll on them to see if there's any vibrations. The tires are super chewed up from the P.O. dragging stance...even with some hard and old mismatched tires, barely any vibration so I'm happy with getting some new tires. I posted up some 255/35/19 Continentals I got from a friend on CR but they haven't sold yet (left tire in pic above), and now that I stumbled on these 19s for the Volvo that already had 235/45s on them (on the right) I'm just going to use them. Yes, they will probably rub but fuck it...almost new, name-brand tires FTW. Car gods were looking out for me. Vogtland springs for the S60R/S60 AWD didn't look like they'd fit the rears (finger pointing to the stock shock with spring seat...wound to a 5" diameter where the Vogtlands are 6") but after doing some eyeballing it looks like they will clear the rear halfshafts and control arms, so I'm going to install them. Spring bottom left is for the front, bottom right looks to be for the rears but I'll do some measuring before installation.

For my Volvo, I got some 19"s that have a 67mm center opening (66.9 on my HF digital calipers). I absolutely hate the look of wheels without center caps, but in researching caps I'm finding that there's an O.D. and I.D. So, if I search Amazon for 67mm caps, they usually have a 61mm inner diameter for the clips. Does anyone have experience with how these caps are properly measured or ordered? I really don't even care about an emblem (plain silver would be fine). Thanks!

I do still consider the V a fun car... ...but I also enjoy my cheap/slow junk - when fixed up - can be considered fun cars as well (Lincoln, Silverado, Volvo).

Better get one quickly (Dan Tobin has two on their lot), because GM just did GM things. Womp womp... https://jalopnik.com/dead-all-buick-regals-including-the-tour-x-wagon-too-1840199479

Copper cladding on your 4,000sq-ft McMansion...can't afford a $3,000 car after a police chase totals your DD. Now THAT'S Pure Michigan.:gabe: Sorry...had to let a troll thought out before it destroys me. Sucks for your neighbor for sure.

Been a busy November, but slowly plugging away at this thing. It's my son's favorite car, so the plan is to sell the V at some point and keep this as a local runabout until my FL car (Cavalier) dies. All the little mods and delayed maintenance I'm getting this thing caught up on makes this car a little more fun to drive every time. TIMING BELT: Got an Aisin WP, TB kit and serpentine belt kit. Old Volvo WP had "4/12" cast on the body so this '05 had it done at some point. Surprisingly straightforward - dare I say easy? - timing belt job. Happy with how it all came together. Runs perfectly. BRAKES: Did 4 new rotors and ceramic pads, as well as a full fluid flush. Lookit these old rotors...I've never seen anything so bad. No wonder it didn't stop worth shite. The parking brake shoe pads inside the rear rotor hats totally seperated from their brake shoes when I replaced the rears. Didn't think anything of it until I test-drove it and bedded the brakes...and came back to the sound of metal-on-metal scraping. Took the rear rotors off and just gutted the emergency brake hardware, wire-tied the e-cable assembly to a cast boss on the hubs. No parasitic dragging now! Would worry more about not having e-brakes if it was a stick, but with an automatic you almost always use the parking pall so I figure we're good. Rockauto has all new hardware if I need to rebuild the parking brakes on this thing. Next up will be Trans fluid change with Mobil JWS 3309, then PCV system service and the engine will be tip-top. Trans fluid is brown, not burnt-smelling thankfully...the car sat for at least a few months so I'm sure it's really old. Waiting for Amazon deliveries any day now! Will still need to service the Haldex AWD system (rear diff filter/fluid) as well but also treating it to a heavier-duty Turbo Control Valve (TCV) and a beefier wastegate spring...

While I’m not looking for BF deals, I should say that my wife and I need to rack up something like 12-14k points on our Southwest credit card in either December or January, to maintain our Companion status (where someone flies free) for 2020. Deal or no deals, I’m making purchases starting tomorrow, 12/1

I didn’t know his story. Thanks for sharing. That is rough, however...that’s a bad-ass fighter to go from brain shear to walking/talking.

Thanks, man...we’re going to pass. The package we’re looking at includes a game he wants. GLWS!

Definitely intadested. Checking with wife if this is what my 8yo son wants. How old is this console?

I'm going to be sympathetic, as a fan of Tesla's products... - It's unique, in a sea of vehicles that are "styled" but still get lost in a crowd. - It will hopefully be legitimately cheaper, as the tooling/design for it HAS to be cheaper with the lack of flame-curves and fake vents that do nothing. - Arguably, Tesla electric powertrain systems are well-engineered and great performers, only restricted by battery capacity. Stuff it under a unibody cube with decent suspension and tires, and you should have good off-road capabilities. Only worry is electric range if you're going way, way away from a charging station. Hoping that flat roof will harbor good solar cells. - I wouldn't buy this thing at $50k+ like I wouldn't buy ANYTHING for $50k+...new cars these days are shit-for-value compared to higher-end cars/trucks that depreciate quickly. Would I buy this at $30k? If it proves to be as good as a used Model S in performance/reliability/capability, I would seriously consider it.

Thanks to everyone who came out! Bill Dyer got over 300 tickets, ended up filling almost 2 theaters. Lot of good feedback from people. Yus, that movie was awesome. Gotta see it in the theater. I don't know what diet Christian Bale was on to get that skinny but I'm interested in hearing his routine....with a few more chicken wings added on top for me. EDIT: Google to the rescue! https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a29737326/christian-bale-weight-loss-transformation-ford-v-ferrari/ I guess you just have to "stop eating"

I used to get pissed at bad automotive content on YouTube - the way Tavarish, B is for Build, Vehicle Virgins, etc have to be super click-bait'y to get viewers. Then I read an article talking about how the pay algorithm for YT changes, and the views-to-cash ratio as well. We all know these guys have to crank out content all the time, and solicit sponsorships and freebies to keep things going, but unless you're already doing outside business, using YT as a promotion channel (AMMO NYC) you have to feed that beast to get money out of it....especially to make money to build an LS-swapped Lamborghini. Obviously, first-world problems here, but it makes sense that Hoonigan has to sell swag in order to pay for these builds/trips/etc...makes me appreciate builds like these. Major props to that body kit as well: to make carbon-fiber body panels after starting with a Super Trofeo race body is impressive. Appreciate, but not enough to watch his channel. Glad 1320Vids covered the car. That's enough about it for me.

https://jalopnik.com/2020-ford-mustang-mach-e-heres-the-car-price-and-0-60-1839875945 So...$60k. Just what is this supposed to compete against? I know Ford and Chevy have been losing customers since they dropped smaller, more efficient cars...is this an attempt to get tech-savvy buyers? Is this competing against the Audi E-Tron? I appreciate Greg’s comments about a C-Max replacement, but is the market ready for this?

Crossovers bore me.

Never mind. I’ll just buy through Amazon. Thanks!
