  1. Not the best pic: http://grandcanyon.free.fr/images/tacot1/original/1924%20Hispano-Suiza%20Type%2068%20V-12%20Tulipwood%20Body.jpg The 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C 'Tulipwood' Torpedo was commissioned by André Dubonnet who, at the age of 26, was an accomplished aviator and racing driver. The Dubonnets had amassed a fortune from the aperitifs and cognacs that continue to bear the family name. Dubonnet contracted the Nieuport Aviation Company to build a lightweight body suitable for both racing and touring. Nieuport craftsmen formed a frame of wooden ribs measuring up to 3/4-inch thick which were covered with 1/8-inch wooden veneer. Strips of mahogany (earlier thought to be tulipwood) of uneven thickness and length were fastened to the veneer with thousands of brass rivets. The body was then sealed, sanded and varnished; when fully equipped, the body was to have weighed approximately 160 pounds. The torpedo tail enclosed a 46-gallon gas tank for long distance racing. In 1924 Dubonnet entered the Hispano-Suiza in the Sicilian Targa Florio and he finished sixth; he also finished fifth in the Coppa Florio and first in the over-4.5-liter class
  2. Seriously, starting shit while on a scooter? I'd have to drive the car over a sprinkler EVERY DAY :bangbang:
  3. Mercedes had complaints as well, and there were LOTS of complaints of the imported Fords (Capri and Fiesta) having the same issue.
  4. On that note, I know the location of a pair of Higgins boats (LCVP)....you can get a Jeep into one of those. One looks like it could be launched right now (Well, after getting in down off a decent-sized hill...), but the other might need a lot of work.
  5. Yeah, you'd think that a roll that bad would have triggered them...the hood might be good too, but that's about it! Somewhere there is a ZO6 owner with a broke motor and the beginning of a plan....
  6. My dream boat: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6a/Motor_Torpedo_Boat_PT-658.jpg
  7. Blue Rock, southeast of Zanesville. No electric, but a GREAT little campground. Good fishing in Cutler Lake, lots of good-sized bluegill, and there is wild dill along the trail to the best fishing area....
  8. Betcha he downshifts because "compression braking extends brake pad life"...
  9. At least he didn't have to worry about putting the car back in the hauler...
  10. I've seen it once or twice I think...might be wrong. If it is the one I'm thinking of, I can tell you it's damn loud on the throttle...
  11. Ideally, the optimum shift point for acceleration will take you from your HP peak to the torque peak (or close to it)...IDEALLY. Real world is a little different, of course. My old Duster loved being in 5th at 35. But that motor makes its peak torque at 1700rpm.
  12. That wreck had me scared a bit...after Dale Earnhardt died, I get nervous whenever they keep the camera off a wrecked car...it usually means the driver is hurt. The Turkish Grand Prix was pretty good this morning...some big shake-ups in the constructors points. Sebastian Vettel needs a smack upside the head though.
  13. Remember Chris Sabo, used to play 3rd for the Reds in the late 80s/early 90s? He signed a multi-million dollar contract after 1989, and he was still driving his 81 Escort until injuries in 92 made it difficult for him to shift...so he traded it for a used 91 Escort, and was still driving that when he tried a comeback with the Reds in 96.
  14. Nice move at the toolbooth...going out of their way to dis-prove the stereotypes about BMW owners, aren't they?
  15. There may be a separate volume level for Aux input buried in the audio menu...some CD players have one too, it basically jacks up the volume when using anything not radio.
  16. Aw, that's a shame...I love me some A100s...
  17. Takes longer to draw, makes off-hand draw just about impossible, makes drawing while sitting difficult at best, non-retention holsters have a higher risk of a mishap, retention holsters are more difficult to manipulate...honestly, cops and soldiers don't use them, that ought to be an indication of how well they work.
  18. Xyster101... how well does that thing deal with damp or wet wood? One of my other forums was discussing that the other day, and we wondered if it would trigger from improperly cured wood, or wood that got damp during delivery.
  19. Two DIFFERENT recalls. The one in the article is for whatever model year it is that they introduced the Tacoma name on, and up. 96+ I think...
  20. So would those be the genitals that the TSA assures us can't be seen on the viewscreen of the equipment? Well, apparently so.....
  21. Looks like they used the rocker panel to hang the sheets on, blocking the view of the drivers body.
  22. I'd rather have a 3.2 auto SHO motor with a 5-speed, and drop it into a Tempo...there was one that trolled around the east side a while back, VERY quick car. Total sleeper too.
  23. Would the butyl mercaptan added to natural gas give a bad flavor to the meat?
  24. Not nearly as good as the 71 Vette recovered on the Jersey docks last year...it HAD been a primered rolling shell with no motor or trans. When recovered, it had a NICE fresh paint job, newly installed interior, and a built 427/4-speed combo.
  25. What is amazing is that some guys managed to get the same performance out of those skinny little things back in the day as the same car will deliver on modern tires!
