  1. Nice, i had to fight the temptation on that one. I just got a 15.5 year pick. I'm not loving it yet, hoping it was just an off night for me. I need to find more RR picks.

I went back and forth as well, but I freed up a little space on my bar and I needed something new. :gabe:

  2. Prohibition does quite a few picks.

I have sampled about 5 different Weller Full Proof picks. they are good. Not worth the secondary price of entry when you can get Weller 107 picks for 1/3 the price.

That's great to know. I've been trying to get up that way to check it out. Trying to get my neighbor to go out and try one of the FP picks as well. I can't really get into Weller stuff sadly. SR is okay for the price, 107 is now WAY overpriced. Did enjoy some CYPB over Thanksgiving, though. Everyone goes gaga over their product, but it's not winning me over.

  3. I have a pick (Prohibition in Powell) that tastes like straight blackberries. It's unreal.

    Prohibition did a pick?

Have you had any of the Weller FP picks that showed up last month?

  4. There are also great cheap whiskies out there. Knob creek is letting people pick single barrels that are 14/15 years old. Fantastic (non-complex) stuff for 45.00. That whiskey can’t hold a flame to the stuff that was sourced by Willett/BT in the late 2000’s from Bernheim. Stuff is mind-bending in comparison.

Funny you say that. I just got in on a group order for a Knob Creek 14 Year from WineAnthology. I had a 10 year that I enjoyed, so I’m looking forward to this one.

  5. My wife doesn’t have cancer, but My aunt had breast cancer about 20 years ago. She had a double mastectomy and went through her chemo and radiation. Has been clean since. We just celebrated her 78 birthday last month. Only other person to have cancer was my grandfather. Leukemia took him in 1983.

My aunt is the nicest person you’ve ever met and I truly mean that. She wouldn’t hurt a bug and she bends over backwards to help anyone and everyone. The only reason she made it was my uncle. He’s fazed by nothing and he was there for everything she went though. He was her strength and he still is. He would talk and kind of debrief himself through my dad who’s a surgeon and had done countless cancer operations.

I guess I’m saying is to be there for her and support her always, which I know you will. The important thing is to make sure you take care of yourself while you take care of her. Find friends, find a support group for you and her to be a part of.

I wish the both of you the best of luck with this.

  6. I typically try to drink heaven hill products.

    Elijah Craig Barrel proof

    William HeavenHill 12, 14, 16

    Older Parker’s Heritage stuff

    The newer Old Fitzgerald Decanters 11, 13, 14, 15

Old Ezra 7 year barrel proof

And then... of course... Willett bottles that is sourced Heaven Hill product.

The EC stuff is very good stuff. I found some A119 in Pittsburgh a few months ago by pure luck. It's my favorite by far. I've had B518 and have a sample of C919 from my neighbor. Both good, but I keep going back to my bottle.

  7. Here’s some education.

“Corn forward” is a term used to describe a bourbon where it is noticeably too young when bottled and other desired tastes/attributes have not had time to develop.

Thus... Blantons didn’t taste like it was corn-forward in 2016 because they were likely bottling it when it was 7-8 years old. Today, they may be bottling it at 5-6 years because of the demand. And... it would not be as mature or complex. It’s true.... it tastes more like fresh buttery popcorn today than it did back then when it had spice and oak notes.

So what are you enjoying on a regular basis?

  8. I would file a claim with his insurance company first. That's what I usually do so not to risk me getting screwed by my insurance for something that's not my fault. They will take your information and they will give you a case number that you should be able to use for a rental car while yours is being fixed.

Do you have your receipt/paperwork for the exhaust you bought? You will need to prove it somehow. Ask the insurance company what their policy is when you file your claim.

I know Tim the detailer (can't remember his user name) did a diminished claim on his Audi years ago. I'd message him directly.

All the best and prepare to fight.

  9. Y’all try crown peach? Or jack honey?

Crown Peach is pretty good. My wife likes it and she's not a spirits person at all. Jim Beam has one that's half the price I'd like to try since it's a lot cheaper.

  10. I feel like Aladdin when I sing “I can show you the worrrrrrld”.

But only when your palate is ready. In order to take the leap you would need to begin to think that Blantons/ER/ElmerTLee lack body/taste/strength. If you ever end up feeling that way please let me know.

If you’re sharing, I’m ready.

  11. Again, I want to combat the whole “no whiskey is worth 400 bucks” thing. Over time your palate will become developed to the point where you crave higher-end complex bourbons and or bourbons that hit those higher end notes.

So, for the guys drinking EHT, eagle rare, Blantons, etc... just you wait...

Don’t you shit talk Blanton’s...

  12. Buddy of mine had a blue GT-X I think it was. Can't find anything on it. Did some top end build, headers and a different torque converter. It would scoot and it looked like every other car. I love a good sleeper.
  13.

I could see that having an effect; whether that state allows business to ship out of state. Regardless of that it is illegal by Ohio lawas to ship any Liquor into Ohio.

Only illegal if you get caught. ;)

  14. Sorry if this has been covered before.. but is it possible to buy bourbon online? I thought it was "illegal" to have it shipped into Ohio. My wife keeps talking about how she wants to buy her boss some bourbon and she found some online that she says she can buy? Just wondering what the deal is on that. I know I bought some Japanese Whisky online from overseas a few years ago without any issues but I didn't think you could buy state to state.

Depends on where the store is located. Some states allow it, some don't.

  15. Anything from Japan, that I can't (easily?) get here. The point is to bring it back, not to get anything here I can get over there. Ease of drinking and approachability are important; none of the people I imagine drinking this with or gifting any too are smoky-peat freaks. I did get a bottle of Eagle Rare the other day, but that was mostly for here; saw it in stock somewhere and I guess it can be hard to find in the US (Ohio)?

We will probably get quite a few bottles, so price is always a factor. But, we likely won't have an opportunity like this again so we can splurge. Within reason we are trying to not have money limit us while we are here, realizing that we will spend quite a bit this year. Use my above #s as an idea of what we might be willing/targeting to spend e.g. $50ish or bellow all day, $100 is OK for a few of something special. The gin from Cardrona and Benizakura below will be in that ~$100 range and I will 100% get those while I'm here.

For example in the Gin world, these two are on the list so far.

    A few from https://kyotodistillery.jp/en-GB/

And a bottle of this https://dekanta.com/store/benizakura-9148-gin/

I also plan to order a bottle of Cardrona gin since I can get it here and I don't think they distribute to the US.

But, I need to branch out and try more!

Buy all the Blanton Black Label bottles you can over there. You'd make a mint flipping them here. (Save one for me as a thank you for this tip. ;) )
