  1. ok makes sense now. They are probaly out of money/grants. She might want to look for a union based teaching position

    QFT.

Especially with the current Secretary of Education.

I'm not worried about her job in the fall. Seriously, she applied on a Wednesday. They called her that afternoon for an interview the following morning. She interviewed and had a job offer emailed to her by lunch. :fuckyeah:

  2. I prefer Juicy Fruit for my truck gum. To each their own.

I've yet to find a Glock that I can justify owning when FN's in the same price point and works far better for me. I'd trust a Glock to work. That's the only thing I like about them. Hard pass.

Only HP I'll own is a carbine. In my experience I've had/seen the .380, 9mm, and .40, pistols all perform terrible and fail. The carbines I've abused to no end and it just works and stays dead on for years.

I feel the same way about Glocks too. I’ve shot a few and they’re okay at best. I really like the FNs and have their FNS-9 on my short list, although the grip tears up my hand after a half hour of shooting.

well thought I'd go shoot before having my shoulder done, so I took my new shield and 320, my 19 and my truck gun..yes a hipoint 9.

I must say to all they spoke highly of the shield I see why. Even for a compact it felt great in my hand and after a shot came right back online to the target.

This will became an edc as it is the real deal.

As far as a full size the 320 is a great weapon and and if you are looking for something that is a great full size i'd suggest the 320 in a heart beat.

Shields are a great carry. Both my brother and brother in law carry one and it’s easily their favorite guns.

I’ve been wanting to try a P320 as I love every Sig I try and everyone seems to rave about it. Striker fire + Sig = winning combination in my book.

  3. Stupid question...is a furlough considered a layoff or is it another category?

The reason I ask is you can get unemployment if you're laid off but if you voluntarily take time off would to be considered something else??

To me, it sounds like a different type of being laid off whereas they’re trying to save money by not having to pay you your full income for a set period of time. Similar to what Geeesammy had to deal with. The difference for my wife’s job is they have put into writing that she, and anyone else that takes it, will have their job back in August.

For us, my wife decided to take it after a medical emergency with my MIL came about and she won’t be able to watch our daughter for a while. Guess we will see what happens.

  4. Would not/10

I was put onto a similar thing when I was in construction due to a slow time in 2012. I was 19-20 making 80k a year.

Still waiting to “hear back” 7 years, 4 cities, 6 moves and a career change later.

Were you guaranteed to be hired back?

  5. I don't know about furloughs, nor what impact they would have on her current employer if she claims unemployment...

However, during the Recession I was let go when a start-up bank we were organizing died on the vine. I felt I had great contacts in the marketplace but underestimated the impact the economic downturn was having. Not wanting to check the box on certain job applications that "I had received government assistance in the past 12 months", I didn't file for unemployment assistance.

An understandable month off of work turned into almost 6. We burned through a lot of our savings as I was carrying some unoccupied real-estate and my wife wasn't working since we had our first child.

I never could substantiate if unemployment benefits truly affect a person's consideration as a job candidate with companies.....but I did regret not taking even a discounted salary for a few months as a new father. I pay for unemployment insurance through the government; I should've collected when I needed to.

Never was an issue the two times I had to use it. I don’t ever remember seeing it on any job applications.

  6. Bingo- this would be my question. Is the furlough a guaranteed "leave" of absence, like FMLA? I would confirm, and obtain in writing, that she is coming back on "X date" to the same position, same pay, etc.

Funny you say that. They made an official announcement this morning that anyone who takes the furlough are guaranteed employment in August (year contract). They lost several teachers this year so they’d be doubly screwing themselves if they didn’t hire my wife and everyone else back.

To my knowledge taking unemployment benefits has never effected my wife or myself for job consideration. She even got lucky during the recession and got two years paid at 80%. it was a great help as she got to be home with our new born and 4 yr old.

I agree with the above about getting anything in writing involving the time period and situation since many times she could be cut loose at the end of the furlough.

Personally I'd the unemployment and enjoy the time off, you pay into it and its a rare opportunity to get something back.

She’s really wanting a summer off. I don’t have a problem with it as long as we still have insurance. I just don’t want to screw anything up with her as a just-in-case.

  7. What are the other options?

I forgot to mention that one of the main reasons we’re doing this is the money will cover the cost of our insurance since it’s through her work. If we don’t, we will have to pay it all out of pocket.

    That being said;

    1. Work for 4 weeks and get salary for that month but still be on the hook the rest of the summer for insurance.

    2. Not work, find some summer job and still pay for insurance.

I’m just trying to find out if there’s any negatives to doing this. People keep telling her no at work, but no one seems to have a answer why. Google is no help either.

  8. My wife was offered to take a furlough for 10 weeks this summer. If she does, she can file for unemployment and get a portion of her salary.

Is there any reason not to do this? Trying to research it, but most of the stuff I’m finding talks about government employees, which she is not.

  9. I bought this two years ago. Works great. Has good audio as it can pick up stuff outside of the car very well. Upgrade to at least a 32gb card if you're going to run 1080. I got one for Christmas for $6 off Amazon when they were doing some sale on them. I am running it off the adapter plug and having the wiring tucked under everything. It works for me as the one plug in the back always has power and the camera will turn itself on and off if there's movement.

  10. You don't want to open too many credit lines, so choose wisely. Once you have the approval letter you can start to shop. If the dealer that that you are buying from has a finance department you can have them run it as well. Car dealers make money off the credit they sell you, so their incentive is to sell you the highest interest rate they can reasonably justify. If you have been pre-approved for a low interest loan the dealer is required to be able to match it (at least in NY, is that true in Ohio?). Why is that important? well, dealers might give you more off the car if you take their financing as opposed as third party financing which is just like a cash purchase for the car. The dealer makes more profit off the interest so you might come out ahead if you are saavy with the math by taking a lower purchase price with a higher interest rate. .

    good luck.

Not necessarily anymore. A few banks still do this, but they’re rates are much higher than most. The majority of banks, especially credit unions, have gone with a simple flat-rate dependent on credit scores. No more marking it up to make a profit. I do agree with getting pre-approved beforehand to cover your back from any surprises and you’ll have a better idea of what price range you should be in.

  11. Answering back to Kerry's list

    - VW Gti MK7 MT - I don't like the look or the interior of the GTI... though I respect and like the idea of the car

  12. I saw that blue Chiron driving up 315 the night before its big reveal at Esoteric last year. It was being followed by their orange 720. The guy has a crazy car collection you can see on Instagram.

Also cool (to me at least) is seeing some prototype Fords in service every once in a while. Got to see the refreshed Fusion before it came out with the new 2.0 EB and front end. We also had about half-dozen 2020 Explorers here for a few minutes back in December.

  13. Ain't no joke about that. Pittsburgh's road system is royally fucked compared to the relative flatness of Columbus and the pristine organization of DC, though I am starting to get used to it. :)

Columbus is getting there. A lot of busy secondary roads are chewed up already. Probably have to go back to getting yearly alignments again.

  14. Being a PA resident for a few years now, I'll say this:

    1) Fuck raising gas taxes. PA has one of the highest gas taxes in the nation and our roads are just as bad. They keep raising it, and road quality is always a justification, but it's the first source of money to get funneled to unrelated shit. Call your reps and tell them to write into the increase that the money MUST be used for X, Y, and Z reasons only. It'll never fucking happen, but make your voice heard anyway.

Growing up there, there hasn't been much changes/improvements around there except when they finally finished Rt. 28 (which still sucks north of Rt. 8) and when they were forced to fix bridges after that one collapsed in Minnesota years ago.

  15. I wouldn’t have so much an issue with the gas tax except for the current rediculous price increase for premium fuel everywhere now. Typically the best I can find is $0.60/gallon more than 87. That shit is beyond annoying.

GasBuddy helps me find stations that don't have a huge spread like that. There's a couple stations around Tuttle that are usually 0.40 difference.
