Ricart Automotive is getting in the motorcycle business. The Columbus-based auto dealership is acquiring the three-store A.D. Farrow Harley-Davidson dealership for an undisclosed sum. “Harley-Davidson is a brand our family is passionate about,” President Rick Ricart said in an interview. “This is an opportunity for us to diversify.” Bob Althoff, who has owned A.D. Farrow for 18 years, will maintain a minority ownership share in the business and will stay on as a partner. “My kids aren’t in the business,” Althoff told me. “I can’t live forever, but family can. That’s the A.D. Farrow name, the Ricart name. I could have brought this to the national market, but I needed to hand this off to better, strong hands. They’re going to do just fine.” The two sides have been discussing a deal for more than a year, both Ricart and Althoff confirmed. A.D. Farrow was founded in 1912. The deal includes the Franklinton dealership at 491 W. Broad St., the store and real estate at NorthStar in Sunbury, and the Centennial Park dealership in Pataskala. The Pataskala dealership will be relocated to 5840 Scarborough Blvd. just off Brice Road, a nearly 3-acre site acquired by a Ricart affiliate in January 2018 for $1.5 million, according to Franklin County property records. The plan is to brand the stores as “A.D. Farrow powered by #1 Ricart.” “The A.D. Farrow name has a 107-year history in Central Ohio,” Ricart said. "For us to eliminate that would be ridiculous.” A.D. Farrow has 55 full-time employees and 30 part-time. “This is a different industry for us,” Ricart said. “We’re looking forward to getting to know the employees and figuring out how to grow.” Though a new business for Ricart, the family knows the brand well as customers. Ricart himself owns a 2014 Street Glide and he estimated his extended family owns 20 Harley-Davidsons. “They’re good guys with deep roots,” Althoff said. “They’re riders. They’re customers of ours. They get it.” Ricart said that unlike the auto industry, Harley-Davidson is a lifestyle brand. While a car or truck is mostly about moving the driver from point A to point B, loyal Harley lovers have a deeper affinity for their motorcycles, which have entire events and clothing lines built around that name. But it isn’t just that traditional Harley that had Ricart intrigued. Ricart praised the brand’s research and development efforts in recent years, both in its efforts to make engines better and more efficient (while not losing that signature sound or muscle) and its work on new products including electric options, off-road capable bikes and scooters. Harley-Davidson announced plans for a new R&D facility in Silicon Valley to focus on electric vehicles last fall and showed off a trio of scooters at the annual CES event in January in Las Vegas. Being able to offer those products, in addition to the traditional motorcycles, the array of auto brands and a growing fleet business, is part of Ricart’s vision to support a larger mobility footprint and alternative transportation, Ricart said. A.D. Farrow bills itself as America’s oldest Harley dealer, founded in 1912 by Alfred D. Farrow and his wife Lilly Farrow. Farrow’s shop originated in Nelsonville and moved to Columbus in 1924.

That's going to be a GREAT looking car. I went on a test drive in a 2018, not sure of trim or options on it, with a friend and it was a wonderfully fulfilling drive experience wise. Interior was modest but the soul of the entire car came through even for me sitting in the passenger seat. The one he drove wasn't a manual but I can only imagine how much fun it will be. It felt more like the M-Series I remember.

Thank you sir. I agree. It REALLY cleaned up nicely and darkened up a shade or two with the coating too. Thanks and noted. I'll post here if I go that route. Will very likely keep it through summer as I continue to refine things with it. Tires go on tomorrow I think the steering box has a very small leak but depending on how the repair is set up, if the entire thing has to come out it may just be worth replacing it as they don't seem terribly expensive or difficult. Will likely install a decent BT head unit and tint the front windows to match the rears.

He's a good kid and so far an excellent driver. He's not getting turned loose until he completes a Mid Ohio Course too. Still contemplating if I'm going to keep or sell it.

Hopefully will be able to get some decent pics this week. Again, started from scratch - pun intended: Ended up pretty good though. Paint Coating Glass Coating Trim Coating Done!

Absolutely! Thank you sir! I put the mats back in it and I gotta admit it really held up well. 85K miles may be low of it's age but it's still 85k worth of asses getting in and out of it and the seats both cushion / form and materials all look no more than 1-2 years old if not nearly new. Carpet too. Outside a few scuffs in the rear cargo area from typical hauling stuff use it's super clean and nearly perfect. The previous owner had a really nice install done on the new headliner too. Light gray and oh-so-clean which really helps brighten up the interior.

Ha! Love it! My dad had a couple Marks. He loved them. I remember back in the day they were really something. Big land yahts like that were cool as hell. Huge 2 door beasts. When you get her all cleaned up let that paint drink in 2-3 coats of Megs #7. After the wipe off of the final one, polish her up! Looking forward to seeing it. BTW: Clay what the fuck is wrong with you? -
So I didn't have much time this weekend but I couldn't help but begin the process of bringing the finish back to life. I pulled the front bumper, grill and headlight surrounds off as it makes for easier cleaning and polishing overall. I also completed the hood and front fenders. Overall it is covered with oxidized clear coat and muck. My son took hold of the Flex 3401 polisher with a wool pad and I followed next with the Rupes Mille and a yellow finishing pad. The slightly sad news is the hood has early signs of "crows feet" which is a weakening of the clear coat. It's light to medium in nature so not bad enough to repaint but not perfect. I'm a little bummed but will get over it. It's not going to all be perfect right? I suspect the roof may have some as well but I didn't even get up there yet other than for a quick look-see. The side panels however are just fine which is great. That said, here are a few shots of what will soon be a full transformation. Next weekend I should have more time to do some 50/50 shots and some before and after vids. The other great news is the paint thickness measures in between 4-5 mils which stock was likely 5-6 if that. Plenty of material to work with. Starting point - and the photo looks better than it really is. Notice the oxidation, tons of swirls an stains that were set in, likely from soap and car wash stains of water not fully rinsed just soaking into an oxidized clear finish. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168773403/original.jpg Results are showing promise. The color is Patriot Blue Pearl and it really shows. This is a great color for an SUV. Some typical Jeep orange peel but overall the paint is correction just as expected. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168773633/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168773404/original.jpg That's all for now, as I'm going to be swamped this week. Saturday next week I'll make quite a bit more progress with plans to hopefully complete all the paint correction leaving Sunday for Coating the paint, trim and glass. Monday marks the day for new tires and wheel polishing and coating.

Thanks is Eric! Those wheels look great! Ironically Rick is heading g over to pick up his summer wheels that just got two layers of coating. His turned out great too. Sent from my Galaxy Note 8 using Tapatalk

Tackled the entire interior today. Overall it was in excellent shape for it's age. No rips, stains, not much in the way of high traffic dirt even. The stock mats are still drying but they look brand new. Today I steam-extracted all the carpet and seat areas and sanitized and cleaned all the hard surfaces. Looks and smells brand new. Ignore the blue tinge on some surfaces as it's the LED headlight I'm wearing as a light source combined with a cell phone as the camera. The shine to the hard surfaces buffs-down upon wipe off of the sealant too but it has to set for 1hr. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770268/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770271/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770269/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770270/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770275/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770272/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770273/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168770274/original.jpg

Thanks. Looking forward to learning about the platform and getting this baby all ready for my son. I just ordered up some new tires for it. Was originally going to go with some top-shelf Michelin's but after thinking about it and reading up on reviews and wieghing the options, I chose to go with a set of: YokohamaGeolandar A/T G015P and bumped up one size to 235 /70 R16 in Raised Outlined White Letters I think the aggressive pattern and lettering will look awesome and is a good look for a stock vehicle from this era. Some will hate but that's okay. They rate really well overall from all the reviews I've read and most importantly are a great on-off road tire that is not noisy and handles rain and snow extremely well. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168767690/original.jpg

slightly different view of her. She did outside guard duty while I keep my sons new Jeep in the garage to stay warm for this weekends detail work. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/168762353/original.jpg Once all cleared off I took her around to play in the 5-6" of fresh stuff. Plowed through it like I knew she would with ZERO issues. Gotta love AWD. Having had several SUV's and Audi and now this AWD Beast, I'll likely never go without it.
-
Agree. I was bummed as I didn't have a chance to get the new tires on it and the ones on their now are so low that it wouldn't make for as fun a day. That's okay though, the Q50 plows through this shit with no problem so I had my fill of fun already.

Love it. So does my son. Sent from my Galaxy Note 8 using Tapatalk
