  1. Still in green (and a few other colors) in "as last raced" condition (one lobe +/- shy of a full cam)?
  2. Thanks - will keep in mind. Really would rather not go dually or modded if I can help it.
  3. 8 mpg towing w/the old F150 vs. mid teens w/a diesel. Seen a few decent ones in the price range - but most were single cabs or 4x4. Really don't want a modded truck either.
  4. Looking for a diesel truck to replace my current tow vehicle, must have: 1) Two wheel drive (2WD) 2) Extended cab 3) A/C & Cruise (working or not) 4) Not too much rust 4) Under 150K miles (I know they'll run forever-body & chassis, not so much) 6) Under $3000 Ideally a 1990 - 1995 pickup (non-turbo is OK) would fit the bill. Would prefer not to go to a crew cab or dually, but migh consider it for the right deal. I might also consider a 2WD Suburban, but a pickup is the first choice. Looked at too much jink on CL - figured I'll try here...
  5. Well, if only I could find a diesel Suburban to put them on..... (still looking for the new tow vehicle) "Free Bump"
  6. The other story was it was a phone booth on the south side - in either case the "legend" is there was a guy you could call who could see the exit. You called the number and told him you were making a run - called him back when you returned for a time and whether or not you were fastest. Keep in mind "back in the day" - 270 & Sawmill was rural with only two gas stations at the exit!!! We were still autocrossing at Murphy's Part Barn/Powell Speedway and those gas stations were the last chance for gas/air before you went north. The most likely congested areas were near Eastland & Westland shopping centers - then two of the major, classy places to shop. Things do change... And yes, 270 was new, smooth and two lanes only all the way around!
  7. From a foggy memory - pretty similar in car prep rules to Lemons. Operationally, they require their basic drivers school for newbies and have a more structured penalty plan for cheating/errant drivers/etc (a little less "show" - a little more like a real race organization). I will have to reread if this starts to move forward....
  8. Maybe - I've got a lot of projects going on, but I can bring actual race experience (in endurance races!) and might be interested in driving.....or heading up some crew folks... I reviewed ChumpCars "rules" and found thier group to be a bit better for my tastes than Lemons.
  9. OK, for the old car folks, try your hand at these: http://www.americantorque.com/game/car-show-50s/ 69% right for me...
  10. I realized it's been a while since I've updated anything on the car. I was rushing around getting karts prepped for autocross season. Due to getting them ready not a lot has happened, but a little progress: 1) 'glass nose & hood removed - the original radiator support has been cut to accomodate the lightweight nose - I did secure a pretty clean replacement core support 2) Original doors back on the car 3) Made a couple trips back to Michigan to get more boxes of parts - Pete located most all the interior parts and some of the original safety equipment (belts/window net) - though out of date - still neat to have 4) Located a dash for the car - not in the best shape, was the correct color, but had been painted black - in the process of stripping it and will probably repaint 5) MAY have found a 22 gallon fuel cell - waiting on pictures to confirm it is the correct style The biggest sticking point now is a lack of hardware (nuts/bolts/screws) - when the car was disassembled the parts were kept, but most of the fasteners have disappeared. I have a couple feelers out to guy here locally who are parting out 2nd gen cars to see if I can but a "bucket 'o bolts" to start putting things back on the car. If I get he hardware and make some progress the next couple of weekends, I'll work on getting some updated pics.....
  11. Pre registration closes at 6:00 pm EST THURSDAY! If you are coming, please consider pre registration - it makes it soooo much easier for the T&S crew!
  12. I really like the guys at Weisenstein, but Able came in $3K under them with a better warranty. Tried to get quotes from several others, all were either much higher or never called/showed. Able is scheduled to do mine Wednesday.
  13. Brakes? Turn 1 at MO? Not really.... or at least not much
  14. A little bit different environment. Solo & Rallycross are both lots of (relatively) slow speed hard accelerations. Road racing you still have hard acceleration, but more speed (and hence more airflow). Certainly you have to mind the gauges, but as Ben mentioned - driving style can acommodate a lot of "issues" without taking away from the fun. With Nelson being more of a momentum track - it can teach you to be smoother to go fast!
  15. Rich/Sean, I have PM'd w/Shawn and told him I may be available to instruct. Need to finish this project in Cleveland, finish up karts and look at my schedule. If at all possible, I am planning to go and instruct (and hopefully bring a car along as well).
  16. Nelson doesn't require the same level of braking as VIR. In fact if you're doing it right, there are really only two hard braking areas - turn 5 (Oak Tree-the left hander leading to the Carousel) and turn 12 (again a left hander, hmmm, before the right hander onto the front straight). Yes, there are some other places where you need a tap to settle the car, but your not really on them hard or long except in those two spots. Again, this is in an IT car w/DOT race tires....
  17. If you're thinking Memphis & Nashville, the Corvette Museum is on the way at Bowling Green, KY. Also, you could do the "Bourbon Tour" either based out of Lexington, or just along the way. You will also be near Mammoth Cave National Park in KY - could make for a pretty full tour.
  18. Question - Looking at the Lotus/Caterham 7 - are race tires/race prepped cars permitted? I may be able to make this - but the Cheverra will (probably) not be back to full "street legal" status by then. Just thinking to see what I would need to do to have it in an "acceptable" level of trim to participate!
  19. At least the ones going there..... The return flights suck!
  20. Track is rough - its OK for production based race cars / street cars. It's a bit sketchy for formula or sports racers unless you raise the ride height a bit. We were at the 12 hour race last year in a 240Z (ITS) and had no bottoming problems.
  21. Here's a link to "outdoor kart tracks" in Ohio - some are the ones I mentioned - some are dirt... http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/OH/index.html#OutdoorKartTracks I know there are others around - many run their own little race series like this one in southern Ohio: http://www.sockseries.com/
  22. Loads of fun on the cheap... Kart tracks: Circleville (just north onf town on Rt 23) Fremont (small sprint track on SE side of town) New Castle (huge! off I-70 about 45 minutes this side of Indy) Camden (another small srpint track east of Dayton) There are also a bunch of dirt ovals and a large paved oval near Cardington, OH. The only one I have driven is Circleville - $15 and sign a waiver to run as long as you like (or can stand). As to karts: 1) you can go 125cc shifter (or 80cc shifter), the 80cc's have more of a local following if you want to race wheel to wheel and have folks in your class. 125 shifters can get you competitive in SCCA solo if you want to. 2) 125 TAG (Mallard's kart) almost as fast as the shifters, but no gears. Also nice in that it has electric start (TAG=Touch and Go). 3) KT-100 - 100cc yamaha, again, no gears, but lots of classes by age/weight where you can run - slowest choice of the three, but still lots of fun Just depends on what you want to do. You need to decide if you just want to play-and as such how fast do you want to go? If you want to race (and be competitive) the choices can change a bit. I do still have a shifter listed for sael, but am having second thoughts - things are working out to where I can probably keep it. I also have an old vintage shifter chassis I still do need to sell - would not be competitive, but would be cheap fun. PM me if you want to chat about options...
  23. Looking for a diesel tow vehicle - First choice would be a Suburban, Second choice a van, third - the pickup. Would like to find something under 150K miles - under $3500. Let me know if you see anything out there, found a couple, but they were in MI & NY and sold before I could arrange a trip.
  24. Hmmmm, a lot of old railway tunnels not being used in southern Ohio... I would guess most are a bit short though.
