  1. Check the electrical supply houses or even NAPA. #4 is common welding and/or battery cable wire and is usually sold by the foot. The electrical houses will typically have 7 strand in stock (too stiff for what you're doing) but some will have the "welding cable" which is fine strand and flexible.
  2. Perfect - because it's gone now, but a great idea for a "friend" in the future!
  3. I would say that's it. Check "newegg.com" or "micorcenter.com" and you'll get more choices and often reviews as well. I bought a Canon LIDE100 for work - it's nice as it is USB powered (portable) and uses LED lighting to scan. It was under $100. If you're doing photos, you need to look at the resolution / dots per inch - there are some big $$$ scanners that are designed to allow you to enlarge photos clearly. Depends on what he wants to do, but the two sights above should get you a better picture of the options.
  4. Nah, probably be lucky to get them all freshened up in time for next season. Also got a 7MGTE to assemble for the kid so he can get it out of my garage.
  5. I hear that is the common complaint/failure. I'll PM you for more info...
  6. OK, so I'm being a lazy ass (I don't feel like routing around in the junkyard for this if I don't have to). I need to borrow (used/leaking OK) a VW auxiliary electric water pump. Working on a project for one of the karts and I need to check current draw, weight and size before I go plunk down $100 bucks for a new one. If you got one laying around I can use for a few days, PM me please.
  7. Very cool. The Good News: there's a small car company in India that wants to hire you. The Bad News: there's a small car company in India that wants to hire you.
  8. +1 - I could care less if people want to gamble, and if they do, I think Ohio should get to collect taxes - it was done poorly (amending the state constitution w/a sweetheart deal).
  9. Hey Jon - just so you know, there is no forum for course design suggestions, look elsewhere.... Welcome aboard!
  10. Fuck you Billy!!! (and good to see you're on board)
  11. +1 I think the problem is systemic to pro sports in this country - want to see a bunch of lazy millionaires, got to an NBA game. Until pro sports cleans up their act (throw out the scum, wife beaters, drug adicts, etc. - don't care how "talented" they are) and reduce salaries. I like a system along the lines of say $1M salary cap (no bonuses/extras), aveage salary for a team not to exceed $500K per person and play each game for $xM, winner take all. Then you'd see some people work, and costs would be lower (and tickets more affordable). Would some of today's "superstars" quit? Maybe. But I think there are pleny of talented people who would still step up to play for that kind of money. Remember, call its sports if you like - but it's still just another business. By the way - love the Jackets, appreciate the impact for Columbus in dollars, but subsidizing a business with my tax dollars is not acceptable. Funny, when Mr. McConnel was still alive, this wasn't a problem.
  12. As far as Auto-X goes: For adults there is a regional only 100cc class - no one is really running in it currently. Nothing for an adult nationally (or outside OVR) except F125 shifters. Needless to say - not competitive there. I do have a starter from my old KT100 stuff, and a front brake kit for this if the new buyer needs it/them. Not to hijack, but to simply add on: Starter: $60 (will need a new battery) Brakes: $200

  14. At the 12 Hours of Sebring many years ago, there were two boats that had been mounted on 4WD chassis - the "Runaground I" & "Runaground II" that circulated the infield with girls in swimsuits riding and the occasional "skier" (water ski's w/skateboard trucks mounted) being towed behind. Looked like one hell of a landlocked party boat - just a thought for this excellent candidate....
  15. I did it when I bought my current house, but it was a little more straightforward. I purchased the house for far less than the auditors appraised value. Filled out the form, submitted it by the deadline (I think around March 1st) and waited. Come September, I was officially revalued at the purchase price. Interesting side note, I was told if I had purchased it for more than the appraised value, Columbus Public Schools has someone who checks this and appeals for a higher appraisal!!! (maybe that person needed a raise so we got the last levy:bs:). I also checked my property on the auditors sight a couple of months back and found I was assessed a "renters fee" or some such thing. I called and was told I didn't rspond to a letter they sent (and I never saw) that confirmed me as the owner occupant, so they added the fee as a potentila rental property! Once again, file a form and got it taken off, but just more BS hassle. In your case, you MAY have to go through a hearing process (even though you submit all your backup paperwork with the form). Hey, it doesn't cost anything to file, other than your time. Good Luck.

    pondering

Just one more thought... After building a couple of race cars for SCCA, and buying and fixing a couple of cars, it's much cheaper to buy a tub with a good cage and a pile of parts on it and bring it up to your specs than it is to build from scratch. Even a car that has been sitting a while - if the cage is well done and the tub is straight and solid, you typically get a lot of stuff you can continue to use. Let someone else take the "devaluation" and then "upgrade" what they started with - much more cost effective. Of course you still need those big tires and lots of gas...... Oh yea, and a bigger tow vehicle...... With a trailer.... Enclosed is nice, with room for spares, tools, tires, fuel..... Which generally means an even bigger tow vehicle...... Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun, but none of it is cheap!!!

    pondering

Perhaps you would want to look here: http://www.tccracing.com/joomla/index.php In theory, these could still be street legal (more or less depending on class). They also run in some SCCA regional road race events (and keep their own group results) and can often be run in "ITE" in SCCA endurance events. And of course, I'm sure you can find a solo class.... (and just for Sean - shifters are a great way to keep yourself sharp for not much money!!!!)
  18. I'm working on blind optimism - it will rain Friday night and not again till Saturday night. That said - WIDE and OPEN (though still curvy) course is on paper for Saturday!!
  19. Steer & Gear out east might be able to rebuild what you've got???
  20. This is not meant to sound like a smart ass answer, but it should obviously be cooler at the outlet. If the thermostat just opened up, it could, for a time, feel hot at the inlet and cold at the outlet until it runs for a while and the temperature stabilizes. If the thermostat has opened and then it's run for 5 minutes or so and it's still "cold", odds are you have some blockage. Testing the temperature at multiple points on the core will help to tell you where (not that you can really "pinpoint" flush the spot. If the blockage is bad, flushing may not solve the problem, the "flush" will take the path of least resistance and just "go around" the spot. If you don't have adequate cooling just leaving it alone, you'll probably be stuck replacing it or taking it to a radiator shop to be boiled out.
  21. International Parts Store on Westerville Road or Main Street?
  22. "energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart." So light is the only thing faster than light?!?! Are they "lighter"??? (ooh, sorry)
  23. And sealer seals whatever it's in when it comes in contact with air/moisture - so most leaky systems tend to wind up with hardened sealer EVERYWHERE. If anyone ever bothered to read/follow the instructions on a can of sealer, they wouldn't use it. (sealer in the system will also void every ac componenet manufacturer's warranty as well) You can sometimes find 134a with dye in it - a little is plenty, but as mentioned DO NOT buy stuff with sealer in it.
  24. Last event of the season - registration closes at midnight Wednesday (dlbracing.com) and the daily event schedule has been moved back one hour due to the late sunrise.
