Cooper Stadium/Jeff Gordon/Race track proposal
craig71188 replied to 2 Sweet's topic in Passing Lane
Certainly it can't compare to TRC - I think they were referring to "special" test drives for dealers and/or some testing for the research center that is proposed to be on the property. -
Cooper Stadium/Jeff Gordon/Race track proposal
craig71188 replied to 2 Sweet's topic in Passing Lane
From the video it appears Arshot has been listening to the issues and has scaled back on the proposal (in some ways). The drag strip and kart track are gone, but the parking garage and tech center seem to be new additionals along with a lot more "green space". I have also heard the plan is for the entire infield to be paved (instead of the grass shown in the video) to allow for more use. This could include drivers schools, automotive testing, AUTOCROSS, along with entertainment events as shown. If you read the comments about the Dispatch article, there are of course the nay sayers, but there does seem to be a pretty good level of support. -
Welcome aboard - used to stop in and browse some years ago when I was at Jeg's. Neat place & concept.
-
In SCCA we have kid kart classes (Cadet chassis - slightly smaller & a restricted engine) with kids as young as 5-6. As far as Circleville, check the kart club links, but I'm pretty sure they have a class for younger kids.
-
Sounds like this could be a pretty good deal - TAG is hot right now, seems to be where a lot of people are going just for the convenience. Still not quite as fast as the 125cc shifters, but close on a sprint track. A little bigger gap to the 125cc shifters in Solo due to more slow corners.
-
No one is really running the adult 100CC class to autocross. If you want to run at Circleville with the local kart clubs, there are bunches of classes for the KT100 (100cc Yamaha) depending on weight, age, exhaust, etc.
-
It's an old debate (in autocross and racing as well) start off in a slower class and work up or jump in at the deep end and learn that way. I had autocrossed a lot, raced some and went right to the shifter (for autocross) - it took a while to adjust, and I still need to get more consistant. I would have learned about the driving faster without having to shift, but it all came together soon enough. Depending on how much work you did on your motorcross bikes, the shifters may be easier for you from a maintenance standpoint. From a racing standpoint, you may get spanked pretty bad in a shifter initially, for some that's just more motivation to improve quicker!
-
As far as autocross - there are two "adult" classes F100 & F125. F125 is 125CC shifters and TAG karts, only the shifters seem to be competitive. Locally we have F100 for the various 100cc "non-shifting" engines, it is only a local class and it is rare that anyone runs in it. Local sprint racing - as has been mentioned, be sure there are people racing in it locally (more fun). In shifters, everyone runs 80cc locally, not many 125's at all. A Yamaha (KT100) 100cc class (there are several) seems to be a popular one most everywhere. Again, check your local track/clubs to see. Locally you can check out: Ohio Valley Karting: http://www.ovka.com/ MidState Ohio Kart Club: http://www.msokc.org/ More good info at: www.ekartingnews.com (mentioned in earlier post)-also a good place to shop. Craigslist is still where I've found my best deals - but you need to know what you're looking for/at. A newer chassis is nice, generally late '90's to early 2000's should get you a decent "starter" kart. Look at the bottom for scrapes (all will have them) but tubes rubbed nearly through is very bad. Also look for cracks and signs of rewelded parts. Motors are a crap shoot - every one that's for sale has usually been "just freshened" - find one that runs, figure you can play with it for several months and then you will need to get it built. Be sure you find a seat that fits you - they come in a huge variety of sizes - but the right one can make all the difference in the world. Really good sprint seats can cost upwards of $200 new, but you can usually find a good used one if you shop around. Also try and buy a "package" of kart, motor, stand, spares, starter, extra gears, extra wheels, whatever else you can - it will save you money in the long run. Finally, coming up February 6th is a huge swap meet in Springfield at the Clark County fairgraounds. Great place to pick up a used karting suit and spare bits and pieces you may need (if not a whole kart!) I know there's a 100cc kart on CR for sale and I have two 125cc shifters I need to get rid of. Drop me a note if you have any specific questions - or about any kart packages you may be considering.

Well, per my reloading info from Nosler: 7mm Remington Mag: 120gr bullet / max muzzle velocity load - 3570 fps = 27" drop at 500 yds 175gr bullet / max muzzle velocity load - 2970 fps = 43.6" drop at 500 yds 300 Winchester: 125gr bullet / max muzzle velocity load - 3470 fps = 30.5" drop at 500 yds 200gr bullet / max muzzle velocity load - 2970 fps = 43.2" drop at 500 yds So at "max recommended load" they are very similar - the 300 Winchester carries a little more max force with the larger round in size/weight. Your results may vary depending on ammo you purchas or load. Hope that helps... Sorry, no "ultra mag" info in my book...

True Darwin winners MUST remove themselves from the gene pool to be considered (as in #1). The true beauty of Darwin is that these idiots can no longer reproduce. See some actual 2009 winners: Crushing Debthttp://www.darwinawards.com/i/bubbles1b.gif 2009 Darwin Award WINNER http://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/criminal.pnghttp://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/bomb.png Double Darwin! (26 September 2009, Belgium) The city of Dinant is the backdrop for this rare Double Darwin Award. Two bankrobbers attempting to make a sizeable withdrawal from an ATM died when they overestimated the quantity of dynamite needed for the explosion. The blast demolished the building the bank was housed in. Nobody else was in the building at the time of the attack. Robber One was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma; he died shortly after arrival. Investigators initially assumed that his accomplice had managed a getway, but the second bungler's body was excavated from the debris twelve hours later. Would-be Robbers One and Two weren't exactly impoverished--their getaway car was a BMW Dying To Gohttp://www.darwinawards.com/i/bubbles1b.gif 2009 Darwin Award Nominee http://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/gonads.png http://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/beer.gifhttp://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/fall.jpg (12 April 2008, Florida) Traffic was moving slowly on southbound I-95. Shawn M. had recently left a Pompano Beach bar, and now he was stuck in traffic. As the saying goes, you don't buy beer--you just rent it, and Shawn couldn't wait another moment to relieve himself. "I need to take a leak," he told his friends. Traffic was deadlocked, so the waterlogged man climbed out, put his hand on the divider, and jumped over the low concrete wall... only to fall 65 feet to his death. "He probably thought there was a road, but there wasn't," said a Fort Lauderdale police spokesman. The car was idling on an overpass above the railroad lines. His mother shared her attempt thoughts. "Shawn didn't do a whole lot for a living. He got along on his charm, just like his father." Though his death was tragic, Shawn's downfall proves the old adage: Look before you leak! Double Diphttp://www.darwinawards.com/i/bubbles1b.gif 2009 Darwin Award Nominee Confirmed True by Darwin http://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/woman.png http://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/motorcycle.jpghttp://www.darwinawards.com/i/icon/beer.gif (3 June 2009, North Carolina) Greensboro was innundated with four inches of pouring rain in two hours, stranding several cars on flooded roads. Rosanne T., 50, was not deterred. She hopped on her moped and drove to a convenience store where she "possibly had a beer," according to her mother, before deciding to blunder home through the storm. She phoned home to say, "My moped has two rubber wheels, Mom, I'll be fine." North Carolina does not require a license to own a moped. Ms. T. had acquired hers two years previously after a DUI conviction. The Highway Patrol had blocked off several roads that were inundated with water, including Rosanne's path home. But she rode right past the officer and the barriers, lost control of her vehicle, and fell into the swollen creek below. The officer retrieved rope from his vehicle and proceeded to haul her from the water. He then interviewed the woman, probably inquiring about her motivation for speeding through a roadblock during a flash flood. When the officer returned to his patrol car to call for assistance, Rosanne took the opportunity to escape--by jumping back into the creek! The officer attempted to rescue her again, but alas, it was too late. The victim's mother speculated that her daughter's motivation for jumping into a flooded creek was to rescue her drowning moped. "She loved that thing." Additional vote getters can be found here: http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin2009.html

Cube van needs a transmission but "runs" per ad. Being in MI that makes it s little tougher to drag it all the way back....

Not mine, no knowledge, but looks like a good deal for someone that's interested in going road racing - cheap! If you could get the truckload of spares home, you might be able to sell the truck for a fair chunk of what you'd pay for the whole thing. If someone were to buy a couple of the karts, I would be tempted to try and work a deal!: http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/1551016858.html or: 1974 Dodge Colt race car; This car has never been > titled as it was a factory race car direct from Chrysler Corp when new. 2) Healthcare is not a right. You can use some tortured logic on the Constitution to try and say it is, but it's not. Religious freedon is a right and if one does not believe in abortion on religious grounds, forcing them to pay for same IS a violation of Constitutional rights Your missing the key point, I DO NOT THINK THE CURRENT BILL WILL SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS. I DO FEEL HEALTH CARE IS A RIGHT. I agree the current bill will not solve our problems, I also think it will make things worse for most people. You are entitled to your feelings - but the concept of healthcare being a "right" is not articulated in the Constitution. We can debate whether it should be or not - but it's just not there now. Assuming your logic that because my "English" is so bad I can't understand the bill of rights. You must also assume I could not be a educated person who could solve complex problems. ohhh wait. Fail again As I don't know you personally, I can only assume from your writing that you misused some words, this could lead one to assume you might misunderstand some others and draw a wrong conclusion, no more, no less. and your (again, I think it's "you're") joking me right. Abortion THATS BAD!@#!@#!@#!@# Helping the sick thats bad? What would Jesus do? He would verify that said leper had proper coverage and then if he felt they deserved it he would heal them at a resonable rate, Comparing Jesus to the government is a flawed analogy. Although those with a liberal bias tend to see "The Government" as a deity, it is not a god or godlike in any way. No point in trying to argue a flawed premise... Omg yes your right I consider our goverment which I'm against on so many topic a deity. Your taking cheap shots instead of going at the real issue. HEALTHCARE IS A RIGHT. I'd call this one even based on the WWJD "cheap shot" to start it off. The "health care is a right" point can be debated, right or wrong, I'm just saying it's not in the Constitution as written today. 4) The passage of this bill is relying on huge bribes/pork/graft to specific states to "buy" their representatives votes. This process and the "special exemptions" being granted to those states/groups will need to be investigated and challenged in court. This is one of the reasons there is such a rush to get this passed and implemented. They know that once it's in place, it will be near impossible to undo. --- Good I don't want to undone I want us to get real obtainable healthcare. Right...if it got us here, doing more of it will help???? it has not got us anywhere, But the concept in the bill are derived from Hawaiis laws. Again I don't think the bill is a answer. I think socialized medicine is an answer but not this bill. Yes, socialized medicine is AN answer - I just don't think the facts bear it out to be the BEST answer. See below: I have no problem with reforming healthcare. I think there should be many revisions: 1) Portability 2) More competition and published prices 3) More protection against cancelled policies 4) A "safety net" for catustrophic coverage for those than can't get insurance You realize that this bill has been said to reduce spending by a bipartison committee? OK, let's think about this, how will it cover MORE people for LESS money unless something gets cut out (or rationed?). How is that "the best" health care?Because right now were spending more money on poor people who abuse the emrgency room. Have you ever went to the ER? say you broke an arm or busted your head? Its overflowing because of poor people going there so they can not pay there bill. This would reduce that for starters. Reforming health care so emergncy rooms are used for emergencies is good. It does not require a complete government takeover of the industry. I think we agree that the current bill(s) are not good. All I want is to throw them out and start with a true bi-partisan plan that addresses health care in the LEAST intrusive fashion. It should stand on its own merits - not require billions of tax dollars to purchase votes to get it passed. We as a country can and should do better when it comes to health care - but the current turd(s) floating around Washington are not the answer.

I am demanding better from my government, I'm demanding they get in step with the other major countries and stop letting people in there own lands die from strep throat and other easily treatable illnesses. Keep in mind, people come here from most all those other major countries when they want the best care, period. You realize that this bill has been said to reduce spending by a bipartison committee? Was fortunate enough to work all three years as a pit marshall. Worker registration & part was at the old state penitentiary. The track was well liked by mast drivers - it was pretty wide compared to many temporary circuits. The only two really odd things were the 180 degree turn around in the middle of pit lane (just about at the entrance to Veteran's Memorial) and the railroad underpass going out Spring Street with one of the suppports causing a "narrowing" of the track under the tracks. Dana "Buck" Reinhart was a huge supporter of the race - too bad city council wasn't then. I don't see it ever happening again here - just look at the city's "support" of converting Cooper Stadium to a motorsports complex!

There will still be (at least) two karts at my disposal - with the same chassis/engine combination - we can work out a ride deal....

Depending on the body style you want, perhaps searching for SCCA "ITE" cars may get some interesting prospects like: http://www.waterfordhills.com/cms/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2200 Depending on the "spares" package you get with the car (and enduro cars very often have LOTS of spare parts) you could sell off and net the price down even more... Also, IT (or ITE) cars will typically have all the lights you would need for the stret already in place (mostly).

I think most of the key points have been covered, but I'll ad a couple of comments/clarifications: 1) Your realtor is paid by the seller (unless you hire buyers broker and pay them), this means they are actually "employed" by the seller. Technically, they have to share your comments with the seller if asked. Unless you know your realtor very well, be carefull what you share with them when negotiating a price as far as how much you are willing to spend/go, etc. 2) Condo's are OK, but keep in mind you will pay a monthly "condo fee" on top of your payment. This fee can change (and usually does) each year depending on what your owners board decides to do as far as upkeep and improvements. If you get a decent one, it can be something you can use for income property down the road (but if you are interested in that, check into your condo communities rules first). 3) Research! www.realtor.com is the full MLS site. Also check the Franklin County Auditors site http://www.franklincountyauditor.com/ to further research your neighborhoods (see what houses have sold for and when) and any house you may be interested in buying (see when sold, improvements, prices). 4) Get a good home inspector - recommended by a realtor, check references, check BBB - some are just about worthless, others are great and can save you money if they find issues you missed. My mother was in the business and I did sell my last house / bought my new house without a realtor - but unless you've got experience and or a really good information source, you're best off using a realtor.

Well, In a "non-modded" one, my contractor buddy wrapped the tires of his kids ride with some thin (but about as wide as the tires) rubber strips (used to seal roof seams for rubber roofing) because he was spinning the wheels on the slope of his driveway - it went over backwards. Oh by the way, I do have some of this stuff left from when he did my porch roof, in case anyone wants to "track test" it.

Worked at Iceland (ice rink - now a Riverside Hospital storage building) and Jimmy's Bikes (also LONG gone) - mostly on North High, but sometimes at Kenny Center as well.
