  1. Well that's good to know! I saw it on the Ruby Tuesday's menu on a job in Elizabethtown, KY - really sounded great - then the waitress told me they didn't have it at that location (and no it wasn't a dry county)!!! So, just to be sure one doesn't waste a trip - which Ruby Tuesday? (I would like ot think all in a particular market DO have it, but....)
  2. Wow - a "news" story fron "Associated Content" - sounds like Wikipedia for want to be reporters (from their "who is Associated Content"): "Associated Content is an Open Content Network. AC's platform enables anyone to participate in the new content economy by publishing content on any topic, in any format (text, video, audio and images), and connects that content to consumers, partners and advertisers." Palin and Barry - two inexperienced people from opposite ends of the political spectrum. I just think Palin is a little more honest.
  3. My first guess would be an air pocket. To check: While cold, remove radiator cap, set heater controls to "hot" (circulate water in heater core), run car until thermostat opens, top up with coolant (preferable at a fast idle/slow cruise RPM - 1500-2000), replace cap while still at RPM. It's also the cheapest thing to do first - no dollars, just time.
  4. You might want to try flying into Tampa, rent your car there and drive over to Orlando (about 90 minutes). When I last went down, the flight was much cheaper and rental cars were available (granted I'm way over 25). Sorry, no real input on the hotel front.
  5. "Genius has its limits, but stupidity knows no bounds" "Common sense isn't" "Too bad ignorance isn't painfull" "To those who race, racing is life and everything in between is just waiting" Steve McQueen - Lemans (I think I got that right) "You can tell a lot about a steak by sticking your head up a cow's ass, but I'd rather take the butchers word for it" Chris Farley - "Tommy Boy" "You want a guarantee on the box? I can take a dump in a box and put a guarantee on it, I got the time." Chris Farley - "Tommy Boy" "If you won't respect your elders, I'll teach you to respect you betters" John Wayne "Life is hard, it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne Plus my favorite - see signature below!!!
  6. If I recall, the event died when they needed some cash from the city to "get them over the hump" (cost of the barriers and fencing that the race had purchased and needed to pay off? - my recollection is a bit fuzzy) after the fifth(?) year. The city council said no, and the event folded. The money lost (hotels & food for the teams - let alone spectators) vs. the cost makes this look even more stupid.
  7. Worked that race - the old Ohio State Penitentiary was still standing the first year - the worker registration & party was inside the old yard! In support of the IMSA GT race was a showroom stock race Saturday evening, a "mini enduro" (3 hour?). Most of the cars had knocked their lights off before it got dark. I also recall that with the "ground effects' aero package, the cars were sucking the manhole covers off and they all had to be welded shut after the first practice. Ah, back when "Buck" Reinhart was mayor!
  8. Got a set (4) of 15x8 Trans Am factory aluminum "Turbo" wheels (1979-1980) natural finish. Maybe two or three caps - all have steel inserts to let you use standard "acorn" style lug nuts - $125. PM me if interested, can round up some pics then.
  9. Note to self - avoid "broiled pizza" food cart if downtown. WOW!!!
  10. Best thing about craigslist: It's Free!!! Worst thing about craigslist: It's Free!!! Have bought and sold a fair amount there, but the scammers and morons seem to grow exponentially. To call / or get a response from a "normal" person gets more unlikely all the time.
  11. Try Habitat for Humanity on Westerville Rd. They get donations (some new - most used/remodel take outs) they can't uses and sell them pretty reasonably.
  12. "if it has tits or tires you're going to have trouble with it" Simple, profound & true.
  13. It's a short week and registration closes tommorow night (Thursday) for the first OSU event of the year - and the first one on Sunday! Listed on DLB as Points Event #4, it is actually #2 since OSU "forgot" about their own Jesse Owens Track CLassic. See you all Sunday!
  14. I've got a case of a/c "deodorizer" that we used to carry (samples) - drop me a pm if you want a can to try (too much of this stuff in my garage). Also, Lube-Guard makes a foaming cleaner for evap cases - spray in, it foams up and them drains out the case drain tube: http://www.lubegard.com/automotive/radiator_foam.html Never tried it, but I've had good success with their other products.
  15. Well, currently having two kids (18 & 20 one boy, one girl) that have survived the transition to driving, heres my .02! I allowed both of them to provide some idea of what they would like to drive, truck, car, suv and I provided it for a cost of under $1500 fixed up and safe to drive. My son started with a $200 Ranger with a smashed bed - we fixed/went over the whole truck, added factory aluminum rims, new tires and better speakers. Had a little over a grand in it. My daughter wanted a jeep, wound up with a Tracker for $1100 bucks. In both cases, the deal was they drive it for a year, if no accidents, no tickets, car was taken care of, they could upgrade. Other than minor stuff, both did well and Sean has stepped up, my daughter and I are currently shopping for a replacement for hers. By the way the "upgrade budget" (Dad's part) $2K-$3K ready to drive. If they want to kick in some saved cash to go above that, that's OK too. After the upgrade, they're on their own (as much as kids are ever "on their own" anyway. Having some say in the car (I feel) keeps them from the stupid idea of just beating it to death to get something else. Both kids liked what they had, the cars looked decent, were somewhat "cool" to them, and they knew they could be a stepping stone to something nicer. Good luck with the process. I know decent used stuff is getting tougher to find - took me three months to find a decent older full sized pickup to use for the summer!
  16. I'll honk as I go by on 315 - I'm going to try and head out no later than 6:30. NTR has an event tonight (although it looks like it could be a rain out) so we may not get the chance to do course set up till Saturday morning.

    Land Navigation?

Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) off Morse Rd (listed as 2045 Morse Rd. - just east of what was Northland on the south side of the street) has topo maps for most of Ohio on hand. Not too expensive - I picked up a couple for a scout troop trip down to the Zaleski backback trail.
  18. Hi Kelley! I've known your dad for may years. I actually had him as a "student" at an autocross drivers school at Powell Speedway in the green Porsche (yes I am that old). If I recall he had you to a couple of autocrosses a few (2-3) years ago. Welcome aboard!
  19. No, a big "tap". Helicoil is choice #2.

    Autocross

Submit to the dark side - it's fast, it's fun, it's cheap!!! (and will be faster when the "sticky" tires come out)

I went 35.9 in the kart - Andy said had a 35.8. The bump at the end of the slalom going into the left hander was real bad in the karts - had to brake way early, wait for the bounce and hope you were more or less going the direction you wanted. All three karts were on the harder Bridgestone tires. The sticky MG's are waiting for warmer weather and points events ;>)
  22. If I recall (it was about a million years ago when I started) under 18 but with a drivers license - you will need a "minor waiver" signed and notarized by both parents and you are good to go.
  23. Just a comment on sway bars. I noticed a couple of people mentione "ride" differences (noticed or not). Keep in mind, in a straight line you should not notice much if any difference in sway bars (size). The real affectiveness doesn't really kick in until you are cornering where the bar transfers load to the opposite side of the car. Yes, a larger rear bar will help reduce understeer. Herb Adams (did a lot of work in the 70's on Trans Ams) was well known for realtively softly sprung cars with BIG sway bars to get the handling without as harsh a ride. Good luck with the install - be sure to check for side to side "preload" on the end links - that can cause some peculiar handling!!!
  24. The Fiero was fun. I ran an ITB prepared 4 cylinder car in F Street Prepared. Locally, it was OK, but no where near competitive on a national level. Some guys have run RADICALLY modified "Fieros" in E Modified with some success, but overall the car has too many bad habits as an autocross car. I ran T/A's many years ago (2nd Gen) and had a blast - a much better car to learn in (other than too much power - undrpowered cars tend to teach you to drive better sooner). Overall it doesn't come with the handling "quirks" of Fiero's.
