    Easter

just had an egg hunt with our daughters, and went to a brunch-
  2. kirks5oh

    getting gears

dynotune, rob (gearhead), or rob lasota would be my top picks in no particular order
  3. sucks man. i'd be surprised if you lifted the heads---pretty rare on these cars as hal stated, and only seen with very high boost cars/compound boost cars. hopefully its an oil return line. #7 and #8 pistons (the ones that like to expand and scuff the walls) are on the rear driver's side, not the passenger side so hopefully that's not the issue
  4. just a little fyi: your post is filled with contradictions-- daily and race car do not go together car seat/4 year old and race car do not go together a/c and race car don't go together race car and $4k rarely go together daily driver, $4k, a/c, and car seat for 4 year old can all go together
  5. at some point you have to realize he creates a lot of his 'bad luck'
  6. danger to the manifold. both parties should not have raced after that. still rocking my nittos until i go with a big/skinny combo
  7. that the guy who used to go by 'turbohatch'?? the guy who raced shanton last year?? i remember he started a thread about one of his family members tearing his car up while it was parked in his garage.
  8. before this became a popular show (probably 8-10 years ago), reader's digest did a special article on crab fishermen. it was in the 'book section' of reader's digest--probably 20 pages long. the author rode along with the crew to document how dangerous of a job it was. a couple days into the trip, one of the greenhorns quit--refused to work. he stayed in his bunk, and only came out once a day for food. the reader's digest author took his place, worked his ass off, and took the greenhorn's share at the end of the trip. pretty interesting article which confirms what the tv show portrays---comlete insanity, with big payoff at the end--
  9. +1 amazingly dangerous, freezing cold, soaking wet, numb, completely exhausted--and then you realize you have to be up another 18 hours. greenhorns get shit on like its nobodies business--you're treated like a complete outsider--almost like an enemy
  10. forgot how much i love that show--i caught several hours of the marathon last night. phil was 'hamming' it up a bit about the blood clot/PE. yeah, its very serious, but there are ways to treat it. he told his kids that he would bleed to death if he stubbed his toe on the boat, etc, etc--not exactly true, but whatever--i'm not questioning how bad-ass those guys are.
  11. RL---for my foxbody when it wouldn't run and had several issues, welded subframes on my cobra rob (gearhead) has helped me several times troubleshoot issues with my cars dynotune brian has done all my tuning other than that, i try to get all my info off the net
  12. bought my '87 foxbody. my dad helped me work on it, and taught me the basics. other than that, tons of reading the repair manual. these days, everything i learn is from various online forums.
  13. 11.5's @ 127mph with 590rwhp. solid rear/suspension/driver mod coming soon
  14. +1 if i were him, i would respectfully back out of all this heat/hate, and just relax with the car and take my time to dial the car in. he's going to rush something and end up in the wall. huge, huge, huge jump i would imagine to have your fastest time be 11.7, and then expect to break into the 9's with any car.
  15. great video. didn't read any posts after the vid, what did i miss??
  16. congrats. we're expecting our third in 2 months. piece of advice for guys with expecting wives---when your wife's pregnancy hormones are acting up, offer to go get her ice-cream and take your car out for some stress relief--come back with ice cream, and all is better. i've been doing this about once a week for a while now
  17. i have that pump too--used it to fill our exploder front axle, as i could get zero access for my special technique--this pump works great--
  18. 9's won't happen. bring on the slicks, rockets, NAWS, whatever.... won't happen
  19. i've tried your technique---gear oil was too thick to 'gravity-fill' with the small hosing. i have two different pumps pictured above. in the end, sometimes its easier to just cut the tip off the top of the oil container, aim it in the fill hole, and squeeze. it can be a tight fit to get the oil container near the fill hole, but i will even empty half the oil container first, and scrunch it up a bit to get it into place---its quick, easy, and doesn't 'gunk-up' one of the pumps that you will have to later clean
  20. neat concept. imagine the heat from the manifolds/turbos right there in the middle of the motor. interesting.
  21. definitely feels good to turn your own wrenches. i've been through 12 years of blood/sweat/tears with the '87 in my sig, and 5 years with the cobra. one thing though---i find myself over-researching mods, and over-analyzing upgrades to the point where i don't do them. i'm so damn busy that its getting easier to just drop the car off and tell the shop what i want. i'm fighting that urge right now with my cobra, as my '85 sits in the shop right now. congrats
