  1. Not on low-traction surfaces. And it is racing as the cars are being timed. What you're describing by the passing is an "out". It's a way to grab a victory quickly. So, let me ask you this. If someone showed up at a drift event with a grip car that would gap/pass every car it was put up against WITHOUT going sideways, would it win the event? Or would it be kicked out?
  2. And how often does the racing in drift competitions decide the winner at the professional level? Hadly ever that I've seen. It's still a judged competition with a racing "out". Look at it this way: If it were truly about reaching the finish line first, and the style judging was purely secondary as you imply, then car design would be about covering that distance in the quickest period of time, not about slip angle. Put Monster Tajima's Pike's Peak car on the track and it would win by "racing" every time. If it were truly about point-to-point above all else, every car would be a no-holds barred grip machine with getting to the finish line first as the primary goal. That is not the case.
  3. Is drifting racing? No. There's no racing going on, just like Gymnastics isn't racing but a Marathon is. Is drifting a Motorsport? Yes. It's a motorsport like any other with winners and losers driving engine-powered machines.
  4. I would give you that... but... F1 cars do what they do AND have to meet a standard of reliability as well. They will take penalties if they crack open the engine or transmission. They're only allowed to use 8 engines for the entire racing season and each gearbox has to last through 5 *consecutive* races. Considering the cars lap a track faster than any other professional series, can pull up to 5Gs laterally and can brake at around 6G, all while using only a single tank of fuel and maintaining a reliability standard, I think they're the most amazing. If the regs didn't reign them in, they'd be capable of performance exceeding human capabilities like a fighter jet and would require a computer to keep them on the track. A F1 car is the complete package.
  5. I wish I could have been around more lately, I'd be more than willing to let you drive mine. I'm about to drop the hammer on a bunch of mods for it too. ACT Clutch with Pro-Lite flywheel, CF driveshaft, Header-back exhaust, engine/trans mounts, diff bushings, and sways. That should pretty much bring out the most of what the car is. But it's all to prepare for this: With maybe a little Meth if I'm feeling punchy: Down the road it may see some Moonshine, an Intercooler, and a smaller pulley. Certainly not up to your power standards, but it should be very close to what I want. I can't wait to see the beast you build.
  6. The Primacy HP tire is used by Porsche too. The difference is that it's the Prius "Performance" tire and the Porsche "Economy" tire.
  7. Just got a reply from her. She's tried 4 different kinds and likes the LeCig from LeCig.com the best.
  8. My gf had similar feelings. She said the Blu cigs felt like they burned her throat; I can only wonder how her lungs would take it. The ones she's using now are much better, cheaper, and have more flavors available.
  9. My gf is big into them. I'll try to get some info from her tomorrow. But I know she doesn't like Blu and refills her own.
  10. Won't make it. Need to visit the title office...

FTFY Seriously though, I'm not entirely happy about the XBone, but I so prefer Forza over GT. Grr. I guess I can toss a rag over the Kinect camera..
  12. Woke up around 2am and heard the storms. Seemed my apartment managed to thread the needle as I missed the worst of it and hear the storms more north and south of me.
  13. One problem is the infamous "Warped Rotor" is as in-grained into the psyche of Automotive Repair as "Fan Death" is in Korean minds. You can't explain to someone that the rotors aren't defective, that they just need to rebed their brakes. So I just nod and give them another pair and hope they don't come back.
  14. Awesome. I just started the Weight Watcher's thing with my girlfriend last week. Our first weigh-in is tomorrow morning. I like how the system works; it appeals to the gamer in me. Essentially, my life now has a mini-game in it. But even with the ability to eat unhealthy, you're encouraged not to because you end up wanting a snack later and can't afford it without dipping into your weekly pool. So you start looking for low-point options to leave room for something bad later. I actually ended up leaving 15 points on the table yesterday. I did find one questionable score. An ENTIRE Jet's Cinnamon dessert pizza (12 slices) is listed as only 4 points. I'm going to assume that's wrong... We're cycling also, so I hope to see similar success to you. Great job!

I like this... But I'm not sure how effective it'd be. If the image remains without power, why not yank the electronics out of the back? http://www.wspa.com/story/22553084/switch-to-electronic-license-plates-could-improve-sc-highway-safety
  17. LOL.. Next time something there's an event like this, everyone that's going needs to post a picture of the car they're bringing.
  18. ^^ This guy's a fantastic instructor. Thanks again for your advice. The final session I was able to keep in touch with a FR-S that was much better prepped than my car.
  19. I need a new battery for my GoPro. I got the entire parade session, forgot to record the drowned session, and only got half of the damp session. I was unable to get any of the dry sessions. I also got turned on to an Android App called Race Chrono. I'm not sure if it'll work on every phone because it apparently samples the GPS at 10Hz. But you can create your own sectors and it will give you color coded sector times, lap times, and even put together your ideal lap time. Also you can review your laps and get data from any point on the course. Pretty cool Unfortunately, I didn't ahve an opportunity to set it up. So yeah, I got nothing to show for the trip. I really want to go again. I just have to resist the urge to prep the car for it too much.
  20. Never heard of them. And their rear LCAs don't have camber adjustment? I think I'll pass.
  21. Lots of fun was had. I apparently wasn't very clear on how the first novic run group was going to handled. Needless to say I was really disappointed. It was better the second run (still drenched). Third was better with a slightly drier track. But after lunch the clouds parted and the track dried out right away. The final dry runs made the day for me. That track is both the most slippery and most grippy paved surface I have ever driven on. When it was wet there were spots that I was seeing the stability control turn on at just 25mph. But when it dried there were places I was fully expecting to feel the VCS kick in and instead discovered I could push harder. Very fun. I definitely plan to do another. I'm not sure how much I'll tune the car for it, but I will certainly be out there again.
