It was still functional.

Vonn Bell probably has Tennessee as his leader right now. Dorian Johnson has 2 OSU visits scheduled. Don't think Marquez North or Robert Foster are even slight chances. You nailed it with Gibson. Might have to do Fork Union for a year like Cardale Jones, Michael Thomas, Carlos Hyde, etc. if he really wants to go to OSU. Since Arkansas/John L. Smith is an obvious disaster gotta like the chances with Quick of Arky takes Strong from Louisville. A couple of his HS teammates have already shunned Louisville for USC and Vanderbilt. Recruiting is really kinda paused right now because numbers are tight and the staff knows 1) they have all of bowl season to recruit again (for better or worse) and 2) they can probably get a couple big-time prospects late like Urban always does.

Interesting post on conference re-alignment moving forward from a guy on Scout who has had good stuff in the past... Strange the ACC, at least if you go by this post, is just going to disintegrate. They just added ND for some stuff, Pitt, Syracuse, etc., etc. They'll be right back to being the Big East with only schools like that left...lol. Don't really believe the post one way or the other, just thought it was interesting.

Pfft... Braxton Miller laughs at Jeff Driskel. Meyer realized all the recruiting sites had the rankings wrong and left Florida, beginning his corrective measure to eventually end up coaching Braxton Miller. :gabe: Also, quote today from Meyer talking about our defense... Saying "personnel I don't believe is an issue" and talking specifically about schemes (on more than one occasion in today's presser) is not exactly a great endorsement for Fickell. Like I've said before, I love Fickell and he's a great Buckeye but the dude is making $750k a year. The defensive performance needs to be in the same ballpark as the salary. As long as they can get shaped up into a top 15-20 defense by the end of the season I think it will be OK. People earlier saying they want #1 or top 5 are a little too demanding. Plus, with the offense being better, they don't NEED top 5 like they did so many times under Tressel.

Auburn got lucky ULM missed their FG in OT. Should have gone to at least 2 OT's. And the WKU-UK thing was great. I love it when underdogs go for it all like they should. Some rankings for OSU through 3 games now... Scoring defense: 36th Total defense: 66th Passing defense: 101st Rushing defense: 31st Sacks: 15th (thank you Cal) Interceptions: 5th Scoring offense: 20th Total offense: 42nd Rushing offense: 22nd Passing offense: 76th Turnover margin: 24th Fewest penalties per game: 94th Braxton Miller is 2nd in the country behind only Geno Smith in points responsible for, 10th in the country in rushing yards and 12th in the country in total offense. Luckily there aren't a ton of heavy passing teams in the B1G (highest ranked passing offense in the B1G right now? Indiana at 12th followed by, somehow, Michigan St. at 50th) but it doesn't look like you need to be a great passing team to take advantage of OSU's defensive backfield right now. The biggest thing seems to be... both sides of the ball returned a LOT of players. And one of them has improved a lot and the other has stayed the same or probably even gotten worse.

Probably unlikely but did anyone catch the end of the Utah/BYU game? I was watching it live because I had some money on it (dumb idea since it's a big rivalry) and the ending was hilarious/crazy/wtf. - BYU down 21-24 with about a minute left from their own 5 - 1 first down and a lot of wasted time later, BYU has 4th and long to convert still deep in their own territory - Utah DB fails and bites on a fake, long completion down to the Utah 34 - BYU spikes the ball with 8 seconds left, then wants to try a pass to get closer or maybe take a shot at the end zone - BYU QB is pressured and just launches a pass, deflected and stays in the air for a long time, clock seems to run out, Utah fans, players and staff storm the field to celebrate - BYU staff and players are fully confident there should still be 1 second, eventually reviewed, there actually is 1 second, Utah fans have to get off the field and the teams line up for a 51-yard FG attempt - long kick mean low kick, it's blocked, fans who are merely on the sidelines at this point, players, staff, etc., storm the field again but a BYU player picked up the blocked kick and the play is still live, eventually goes down but BYU is like, uhhh... penalty? - refs are conferencing somewhere on the field, surrounded by fans, both staffs pleading their cases to the refs, some fans arguing with the refs, eventually a 15 yard penalty is assessed and BYU gets a shot at a 36-yarder now - fans have to get off the field again, kick is up, holder thinks it's good, starts curving like crazy, hits left upright, game finally over, fans rush field for 3rd and final time :lolguy:

I think Brian Kelly is a good coach and eventually ND will do well if they can get over him occasionally killing some students. MSU is just so one dimensional. So word on the street is to make sure OSU got the W Urban took over EVERYTHING for the last 4 series of the game. Both sides of the ball. Not what he wanted to do when he came back to coaching. Not a good sign for any of the assistants right now. Herman/Warinner's playcalling in the 3rd quarter was very weird then the defense obviously is just a mess.

Braxton is doing pretty darn well though. He made mistakes today (maybe 1 bad read, 3-4 bad throws, his WR's dropped 3-4 perfect passes though too) but someone posted his stat line so far through 3 games vs. Tebow's through 3 games in 2007 when he won the Heisman... And the defense is bad. You don't fire staff 3 games into the season and I don't know how much is on them vs. how much is on the players (today it seemed like A LOT was on the players themselves) but right now they are in the bottom 3rd of the country just going off straight statistics. I do know all the Scout posters on the free boards are a disaster (even on the pay board they're mostly awful) though... :gabe:

Sounds like Ezekiel Elliot if his team ever needed him to play more than 2 quarters. :lolguy:

ULM taking yet another SEC team to OT this week.
-
Holy shit OSU's defense needs some work. Some of my other friends thought I was overreacting after a few bad things last week on the defensive side. Now... probably not so much.

Read the report with this song in my head...

Other than the author, director and the fact they're in a prison... they're pretty different movies. I don't want to give anything away really but they're both incredible. Gotta stop hyping it up now so you don't go in with insane expectations...lol. Just know that whenever Shawshank is on AMC and I stumble upon it, I watch it. Same thing with The Green Mile. Been on twice a night all week and I've probably had it on my TV in the background for 4-5 of the 8 showings thus far. And it's a 4-hour broadcast with commercials.
-
Read about that a week or so ago. Hilarious.
-
Shawshank and Green Mile are both prison movies based on novels written by Stephen King and directed by Frank Darabont. I love both of them.

Used to watch ESPN from 9-10am on Saturday morning until 2-3am Sunday morning for college football. Now I just get through the OSU broadcasts/programming and do other stuff. Agree about the BTN too. Their fall camp stuff used to be good because it had no competition. This year with ESPN doing the All Access thing it really showed how bland it is. They rely too much on their on-air "personalities" who don't have much personality.
-
Clarett wants to be there but only if Tressel is allowed which it sounds like he is. Clarett's been out of prison for like 2 years now. Playing football for the Omaha Nighthawks and working on finishing his degree.
-
Also, OSU is going to honor the '02 national title team against Michigan. Everyone from that team is invited. And when I say everyone I mean everyone. Right now it's entirely up to Tressel on whether or not he shows up (there's no NCAA thing that would keep him from attending). Just imagining that moment in my head where Tressel would walk out onto the field as a part of that... it would be absolutely insane.

Yeah, I remember the OSU-Wisconsin basketball game back in 2007 when they were 1-2 in one of the polls and CBS made sure they used those rankings and promo'd it as 1 vs. 2 all week.
-
They use random shit. When BCS rankings come out sometimes they use those. A lot of the time I think they prefer to use the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll because their name is on it. Last year and this year they enjoy using the AP because USC was ranked in it last year and OSU is ranked in it this year. This at least applies to their TV broadcasts. They use whatever makes it look the most interesting. On their site I think they've always used the coaches poll.
-
Their depth is definitely the issue and like Phil said, their starters are usually pretty good because they've been in the program 3-4 years already. But behind them are a bunch of young, inexperienced, non-elite talent type kids who need some serious seasoning before they can contribute. The elite of the elite can suffer an injury and keep chugging along for the most part. Boise St. would probably have to play a 170 lb. white kid at RB if they had 2-3 RB's hurt like OSU does right now.

Oh and Jordan Hall practiced today and will play this weekend. Who knows how much but it's good we will have 2 weeks to work him in before going up to East Lansing. Nate Williams will also be playing.
