I can't speak for CLE. And the following are just my opinions--others will no doubt differ with me. Columbus Cars & Coffee (dotNET, not dotCOM) works well because 1) Clay is a tireless and resourceful promoter. He's enthusiastic about cars and talks about it to the many folks he meets. 2) He isn't trying to network for profit. It's not a place you pass out your business card. 3) Clay uses social media effectively. He gathers photos of the events and shoots videos. He keeps a website and Facebook page updated. 4) From the beginning, the only rule was that EVERYONE with ANY car is welcome. People post the meet info on their brand-specific forums and a bunch of Mustangs, or Corvettes, or whatevers show up in force. 5) Clay polices the event and shuts down loud stereos, burnouts, unsafe driving. It stays family friendly. (He almost never has to do these things.) 6) It is consistent. The group learned that it's better to use the same day, same time, same place year-round. If the weather's crummy, there's a nice coffee shop to sit and chat. 7) He kept it simple. No dues, no membership, no attempt to organize other events, partner with sponsors, or have a fundraiser for Jerry's kids. Because of all these things, the event draws an ever-changing, diverse and friendly group of car enthusiasts, which in turn keeps it interesting. I think he got it just right.

IIRC, Steve-O works/did work for Car Max. Perhaps he can recommend a good salesperson.

CR Test n' Tune @ NTR - October 19th CR IS ON LANE 5

I realize this isn't a prepaid event, but would it be helpful to know in advance who's coming? If so, count me in. I need to call out a few of these new CTS-V's that are popping up around here like weeds. -
Welcome, Michael. That's a beautiful car, and CR will be anxious to see photos of it, so don't delay in posting them. Twice this week at CC&C I heard guys comment on how good that black with metal flake paint looked. + rep

Not really new. I ordered them last year but didn't have them finished and installed until this spring. I wish I could take some of the credit for them, but I was mainly guided by Farkas but with lots of technical help and counterpoint by Bryce, Eman, and Ronnie (all at WheelMedic, where the work was done). I'm pleased with them, but full polish aluminum without clearcoat requires extra care to keep clean, so after IFO, the Enkei's go back on for the winter. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/GT86_LR-33_zps706a3f82.jpg

Bump for this happening tomorrow. Then, IFO on Sunday. It could be the last big car weekend of the year with perfect weather.

Import Face Off--Save the date--Sunday Sept. 28, 2014
Doc1647545523 replied to Doc1647545523's topic in Events
Bump. It's this Sunday. If you haven't picked up a flyer yet, just print this one and bring it with you to get $3 off at the gate on General Admission (not on racing or on car show entry), and CR gets a $2 kickback as well: http://s355.photobucket.com/user/martyr65/media/ohiofront2014septhalf_zpsb32f8020.jpg.html -
Yep, the other Cars & Coffee group will be co-hosting the roll-out of the new Jaguar F model just up the road at the OSU Ackerman parking lot. SCCA is setting up a free autocross course 11-2. The invitation I received noted that "tuxedos are not required." :lolguy: There was no mention if the Wiggsmobile would be pushed off a trailer for the event. Not that I would advocate we crash that event around 11:30, clear the free food table like a swarm of locusts, and blast through the course 10 seconds faster than new Jag's time. No, I would never suggest such a thing.

Perhaps 2nd most awkward. The Edsel Teletouch was pretty exciting. With pushbuttons in the middle of the steering wheel, it relied on switches, wiring, and servos to actually change gears. The system was so complex and unreliable, you never knew what, if anything, would happen when you pushed a button. It was akin to Russian Roulette. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/EdsegeershiftStumble3_zps4180e113.jpg I like the rotary transmission dial on the Jags, but I think on a truck I'd always be reaching for the column shifter lever (if automatic).

Although he's sometimes hard to reach, Kevin Clifford has done excellent work for me and prices his work way below its true value. Plus, he's a sponsor here. Solid guy.

As some of you know, I've entered the Ohio Valley Rally 700 October 10-12. Every year, Rally North America chooses a charity to benefit from the event, instead of having prizes for the winners. This year the course takes us through southern Ohio and West Virginia. Over the last five years, CR has had great representation at the Rally North America events and has had numerous podium finishes. This year it's just Robochan and me representing. We're taking the FT86BRZScionSuburuFRSToyotaGT86. Pics to come later in the thread when we sticker up the car. For the second year, the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio will be the beneficiary. The RNA summer rally had Matt Farah from Smoking Tire/ iDrive along: here's a video to give you the feel of the rallys: We are asking our friends (who are comfortable donating) to make an online donation through our page: http://ov700.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1117988&lis=1&kntae1117988=FDB4300CC0AA405FA5D9D8B03F24F9A8&supId=411225026 Click on the blue button "GIVE NOW" on the right-hand side of the page. Donations are tax-deductable and you're emailed a receipt for tax purposes within about an hour. Your donation goes directly to the Foundation; none of it goes to the Rally or to our team. We are donating our time and paying all our own expenses (of course, we have a lot of fun in return, too). We're asking businesses to donate $100, and at that level we'll put your business advertising on our rally car. Any donation from individuals, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So I got this text from California...(2007 CTS-V updates)
Doc1647545523 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
It's a sharp car. I'd make it a priority to polish those plastic headlight lenses. They make an otherwise A+ car look a little tired, and it's such an easy fix. The car has great lines, and you got the primo color. Congrats on the pickup. -

Sorry you couldn't make it out, Tom. Somehow, we had a good time without you. We detailed 3 cars, 1 motorcycle, and one tonneau truck bed cover. 3 Thurman burgers consumed. No fatalities. Productive afternoon. -
With the morning rain, I assume that UFO isn't going to run autocross today. Although rain remains in the forecast, it looks to me that things will begin to dry out this afternoon. Having just sold two vehicles, I need to re-arrange the garage and will be washing at least one vehicle this afternoon. If you need a dry place to work on your car today, or need to exterior wash/interior clean it, feel free to bring it by this afternoon. Bring your own cleaning supplies and towels. Also, I have only the basic tools. If there's a group interested in cruising to eat later, I'm okay with that--Hamburger Inn, Son of Thurman, and Smashburger are all close. Post to the thread if you want or just show up. If you didn't already know: 320 London Road (Howald Industrial Park) Building 100, first open bay on left side of building Delaware, OH 43015 740-405-5565

I'm not so sure you'll fit in here, with your taste being to older imports and JDM. We're mostly F-body and Mustang guys here. Good intro, though. + rep http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/9a_bwc.jpg

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone. It's now listed on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-S-Class-4-door-sedan-1981-Mercedes-300-SD-diesel-sedan-/131272465223?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1e9072db47&item=131272465223&pt=US_Cars_Trucks feel free to visit, watch, and bid -- it all helps keep the posting live. reserve is set at $3000, so don't bid that high unless you really want to own it. Don't be surprised if it goes much higher than the CR price; my bike trailer just sold for over a grand higher than I listed it on CR.
