By contrast, the W126 is a very mechanical beast and for most things is much cheaper to repair.

However, gas prices never got high enough to motivate me to do that, so I used it to split up some of my commuting miles. I put 40k miles on it in four years, and it never broke down or failed to start. Good: dependable 27-30 mpg on the highway runs strong right up to 90 mph light smoking (no thick black smoke, regardless what you do) interior very good, only one small tear on rear door leatherette good A/C, power accessories all work as they should working non-original radio trailer hitch with electrics soft ride, tracks straight down the road chrome and paint are shiny, wood is perfect Bad: tires have worn well, but will need replacement in next 5000 miles rust bubbles at bottom of door cruise works fine at lower speeds but has some surging occaionally above 55 mph paint has a jagged scratch on roof about 2-3" long 3 drop oil leak after 30 minute run--more if you run above 70 mph--seems to be from fuel pump gasket. average usage 1 qt every 1000 miles. needs block heater to start below 20 F driver's armrest removed, but comes with car rear end collision last year, Kevin Clifford did the repairs to bumper (looks better now than before the collision) PM for more details. Too late, I owned three from that style, back in the day. One wagon, two sedans, all of them diesels, but none were Bertones. Jeff's correct. I understand from my neighbors that there was a carjacking/kidnap, then high speed chase which came into the Industrial Park. Suspect car went along my office windows at a very high speed to the back of the Park, looped around the building where the Hangout is, then came up through the gravel like gangbusters to stop across from my overhead door. A woman in the car was screaming for help and was cuffed and put in a cruiser while the driver ran across the railroad tracks to the old warehouse on Curtis Street. There are snipers on the roof, police crime scene tape, cruisers, police helicopter, news helicopters and vans. I felt I was in the way so I left. I see in the latest news blurb that the suspect was apprehended barefoot. No mention of carjacking or kidnapping or of the woman. We'll see how much of this turns out to be accurate.

I guess I can vouch for her -- I've known her since she was 3 days old. Although she was too modest to mention it, she's recently helped her Dad with an extensive frame-off restoration of his 1972 GTO which took Best in Class last year at the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk and which this year was runner-up. Besides betting cash that his horse was faster, he was known to bet the horse (racing for pinks). I was told of several times he walked home from the races, having lost the horse he brought. My recollections of him was that he drove his cars the way he rode a horse -- fast as it would go. Thank God his last car was a 1958 Rambler. He was a terror on gravel with it. Welcome, Lora!

I had planned to drive the GTFT86FRSBRZ (the blue car), but a combination of weather and a belt issue made me change my mind at the last minute and take the Celica. It seems that at an event like that, the Celica's more popular anyway. It's not a pretty car, but over fifty people sat in it over the 2 days and most had their photos snapped sitting in it or standing next to it. I suppose it's my vanity showing, but for me it only takes one person saying, "I'm happy you brought this today .... I never thought I'd see one" to make me feel that the effort was worth it.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it's like any strong pharmaceutical: Properly used for selected conditions, it can provide real benefits. It can be abused. Its use entails health risks. It can be (at least psychologically) addictive. I've never used it, never prescribed it, but I don't see a strong reason to keep it illegal.

I'm going to drive the WRC if you'll drive the 86. I've found that the best way to avoid a long wait is to be at the gate just before 8 a.m. when it opens. I prefer sleeping at home Friday night and leaving Delaware at 4 a.m. Others go down Friday night so they don't need to get up so early Saturday. If you go separately, we'll need to meet up Saturday morning so that we can get in line together. Otherwise, the cars won't be able to park together. LMK what your thoughts are by midweek so that I can have the cars ready.

x2 Jordan's da man. Also, there would be pros and cons to buying a trailer like mine. It's very light and you'd never know you were pulling a trailer behind any truck. However, for the same money you can find a used box style enclosed trailer that you can walk around in. Some even have small camp trailer features built-in like a bench/bunk, cabinets, lighting. If you're on the road camping or living out of your vehicle, my trailer is way too small unless you also put a camper, or at least a cap on your truck bed and used it for sleeping. My two cents' worth.

I saw a few domestic performance cars there, not many, though, and no old domestics or old muscle cars. It's not really an issue. You park with everyone else. I discovered last year that people have the wrong perception of the event. I saw no one walking around drunk, no fights, no snobbery. I thought that since I was old enough to be a grandfather to most people there, and since I wasn't driving a tuner car, then I would get the cold shoulder. Just the opposite--everyone was friendly and respectful. The staff motioned me to preferred (NOT handicapped, preferred ) parking each day. The local motels, however, become more like fraternity parties; noise all night, drunks asleep on the floor outside your door, guys pissing in the shrubs at the lobby door). I wanted no part of that and arranged to lodge away from that scene. A car like yours needs no apology. However, if you're uncomfortable, drive the FTGT86FRSBRZ there and I'll drive something else. I just ask that you arrange to be at the gate when I am so that the cars can be parked together so I can keep them clean easier.
