  1. Yeah, I was there until there were only a dozen cars left. If you broke the record that was standing at the beginning of the weekend, your timeslip will show that you're the new record holder, even if someone else earlier that weekend had a faster time. This keeps people from fighting over line placement. So, if the old record was 150, and Bob ran 200 on Saturday and you ran 151 on Sunday, both you and Bob set new records. For $50 you can switch classes. If you can't break the record in your Gas class, pay $50, pour a fuel additive in your tank, and run in the Fuel class. There are guys who disconnect spark plugs to change classes. :lolguy: At least you have someone close to chase. I'm not sure I'm willing to install a cage and drag chute to go after Mr. 183 mph. BTW, he ran 237 mph in the Standing Mile in his Evo a few years back: The Viewt record held up, though. :fuckyeah:
  2. This is for a place adjacent to Alum Creek Reservoir, about a mile from the I-71/US 36 exit, ten minutes from I-270. There's acreage to mow, a party barn, indoor pool ..... you get the picture. I would prefer to have someone (man/woman/couple) living in the house, private rooms and bath provided. There's enough maintenance and planned improvements for this to be a full-time job with expenses paid plus salary, but it might also work as a limited arrangement with room provided in exchange for reduced hours of work if you wanted to keep your current job. The eventual plan would be to close the Hangout/free clinic and make the new place available for CR meetups all year round. There's so much CR history connected to the I-71/US 36 location. You can post ideas/comments to the thread, but if you're interested in finding out more about the position, PM me in confidence or text me at 740-405-5565. The home and grounds are currently unoccupied and I can give you a look around if you want. Start time is flexible within the next 4 months.

Sawmill was kinda slow Friday night, so I left by 11:30 and didn't go out Saturday night. Friday night I saw four other of the regular CR crew.

I'll prolly check out Sawmill. With IFO and the Ohio Mile for the last few weekends, I've been too busy to go. I don't think I've been since the kart fire. It seemed too windy tonight to hit QSL, but that's an option to keep open for Friday nights, too.
  5. No personal experience with them, but here's the take from Grassroots Motorsports: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/buyers-guide-other-roadster/ There are a few good forum links in the article as well.

  7. That's kind of you to say, but I'm revealed as a poser as soon as someone asks, "What have you done to the car?" and I have to admit that all I did was write checks and had a shop guide me through the process, beginning to end. I have a lot of envy when someone tells me how he diagnosed a car problem, envisioned the solution, engineered the fix, and then built it himself. But I sure do enjoy my cars.
  8. I set the ECTA H/FSS standing mile record in 2012 and it still stands. Yesterday I set the G/BFSS standing mile record. The first letter of the code signifies engine size. For example: H = 62-92.99 cid, AA=501 cid and over. The letters after the slash refer to chassis, fuel, street legal, and other characteristics. My class for the 86 was blown, fuel, super street. The requirements for each class are explained in detail in the ECTA rules and with few exceptions are shared across the U.S. The other sanctioned US Land Speed Racing events are SCTA (Bonneville), El Mirage, USFRA (World of Speed), LTA in Maine, and the Texas Mile. I'm under the impression that all the events use the same method for determining official speed. They time your pass through a short trap at the end of the mile course. I'm no expert in this, so if someone knows different, feel free to pipe up. I'm told that the timing equipment costs upwards of twenty large, and I know it calculates speed to a ten thousandth of a mph.
  9. Thanks, gents. Austin, Brian got loads of stills, some hand-held video and two Go Pros on the car. After he gets a week or two to do some processing and editing, I'm sure he'll post the results in a thread here. I'm not sure if Joe (yarp) got a photo of me getting yelled at, but he's welcome to post it if he got one. There really weren't others standing around, as this happened just as I was coming off the shutdown and started to drive towards the pits. I'm sure it would have made an entertaining video. I'll have to check with Brian to see if the in-car GoPro has any audio from the encounter. It's just me profusely apologizing and trying to explain that my speedometer showed me within the safety rating zone. I was positive I was going to get banned for life for what was truly unintentional. Brian, if it picked up any of Keith yelling, we need to review it before posting it. We didn't have Keith's permission to record him and I'm sure he doesn't want most of what he said repeated. If you can hear him, you'll understand.
  10. Saturday there were sprinkles early then clearing. However, crosswinds shut down the track from around 2 p.m. to close. Sunday was perfect. Dry, good temps, a breeze but nothing too strong to run. 11. Thanks, Mitch. But, as Jones so painfully reminds me, I've only gone after the "low hanging fruit."
  12. Thanks for the photos, video, and the support today, Brian. I really appreciate your friendship and your expertise (in photog and in racing).
  13. Well, Joe, I was impressed with you and with your car. For having posted one of the worst intro threads I've ever seen, you're a very personable fellow. I was wrong in my e-assessment of you. You clearly have a lot to contribute to CR if you choose. My bad.
  14. Now there are two http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Dscn1043_zpsb56580f4.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Dscn1041_zps51471d41.jpg
  15. Yes, Keith Turk (Racing Director, Ohio Mile) came steaming back in his truck to meet me after my run. Because I had a 135 mph safety equipment limit, I decided I'd trap at 130 mph to be on the safe side but still beat the record. (The car hit 150 without breaking a sweat). Although when I went into the trap my speedo showed 130-131, they timed me at 142. Keith told me in 2012 that they should have banned me for life in 2011 when they had a reason. I figured I was about to get it today. He was very hot, but no lifetime ban and not even kicked out of the event today. I went back in line and set the record legit. What was your class record and speed? You told me today but I'm not sure I'd get it right to recount it here.

  17. I've entered the 86 in the Ohio Mile in the G/BFSS (blown fuel super street) category this year. I was in Wilmington for registration and tech inspection Friday, then back today. Unfortunately I haven't run yet due to track delays and then wind delay (24-27 mph crosswinds). I return tomorrow first thing and hope to make at least one run. Here are some unedited photos from a point-and-shoot camera. The photos aren't so great but the cars and people are. Too low to race? http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1037_zps52519b7e.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN0998_zps4ef52560.jpg A brace of Studebakers http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1040_zps049c302a.jpg Saab story http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Dscn1027_zpse5411b2e.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1028_zpse6bb6b28.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN0999_zps32e88973.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1032_zps09a62267.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1026_zps81441722.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1002_zpsfcf99bec.jpg NASCAR body based http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1003_zps40ea2cb7.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN0994_zpsa08b05ff.jpg Trucks too http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN0990_zpsb13bdc94.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN0996_zps4f161206.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/DSCN1010_zps36f50bd0.jpg
  18. The place was really packed. Lots of good racing, autocross, and show cars. I understand the Purple Money Eater took "Best Exotic" honors this year. Congrats, Farkas. Your car is still hideous, though. Many thanks to those who used their IFO coupons to benefit Columbus Racing. I appreciate the efforts of macpyro, Nickey427, Mahle, and Rally Pat who helped me transport and prep these cars for display. Special thanks to BIGGU for putting his Soarer in with my five. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/fromright_zps1adae165.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/fromleft_zpsc80db596.jpg
  19. It looks like it'll be a pretty decent day at National Trail for this event tomorrow. If you attend, please stop by and say Hi. I'll have five of my cars (plus BIGGU's Toyota Soarer) in a display there. Bring your flyer to get a discount at the gate. If you didn't get a flyer, print this one and bring it with you: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1771922&postcount=5 Hope to see you there!
  20. Looks as though the second Oven thread went pretty much like the first. It boils down to the question of whether CR needs another keyboard warrior/troll. It makes for a chuckle or two at first, but gets old pretty quick, IMHO. from me
  21. If you'd put as much effort into your intro thread as you did in your rebuttal of what I said, you'd have likely sailed right into this esteemed group. But, hindsight is 20/20. Everyone deserves a second chance. It seems strange that you'd want to join Columbus Racing just to ask for recommendations for an exhaust shop friendly to mods. You can Google "Columbus Ohio exhaust shop reviews" and get that information in a matter of seconds. You actually got a good recommendation on here with "Madhatter." I've had custom work done there and they are low priced and honest. The neighborhood's a bit sketchy, but something tells me that won't bother you. Good luck with your second Oven thread. I give you points for perseverance.
  22. If no one else is interested in the next few days, Joe, I'll take it. I'm just jammed up here at work and can't arrange to pick it up for awhile. If anyone can get it sooner, please sell it to them instead. I'd just be buying it as a loaner to have on hand.
  23. I see what you did there. Maybe yerp would have been a better choice. Joe, you've got your recommendation now. If that's all you came here for, your mission's accomplished. See ya around. On the other hand, if you wanted to join a car community, might I suggest that in the future you not start by (1) telling a group they're doing it wrong, (2) telling the group what not to do, and (3) stating that you just want information. No hate here, but no rep either.
  24. Things usually shut down around 6 or 7 p.m. I'll dropoff my remaining stack of the flyers/discount coupons tomorrow. Do you want them at the store on US 23? Also, folks can download and print this flyer to bring with them to the gate. It will get them $3 off admission and CR gets $3 for every flyer redeemed: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/1622185_669580153104155_1506916039_n_zps10848dad.jpg If you download the flyer from another location, you need to black-out the numbers 1-2-7 in the lower right corner in order for CR to receive the kickback.
