  1. The BRZ is the first(only) car I have owned with traction control of some sort. I usually drive around with it off 100%. Q: If you have it, do you drive with it on or off? I don't like a computer telling me that my little slide is bad or that I can't chirp the rear tires. Feels like my mom sitting in the back seat turning off the fuel when I do fun stuff.
  2. I have an '03 Element 5 speed. 2wd and it is fun in the snow. None of that traction control crap. Element is AWD so the rear only kicks in when it senses the front slipping, it is not a true full AWD like a subi or Evo. OP, looks like a blast! Sweet car. Tell your son to hold the camera still.
  3. Some mixed opinions here. From lots of research on various sites I do this: -Sta-ble in the fuel tank and run it for 5 min, then pull EFI to rid pressure in system -75-100% gas. More gas = less water condensation in tank -Jack stands/block/foam pads to reduce flat spots. Important on soft tires -Pull plugs and put oil (seafoam) inside cylinders to reduce rust build up on cylinder walls -Battery should be brought in somewhere over 40 degrees and either tender or charged every month -Steel wool in openings for mice. Exhaust, air vents, etc. -Wash and car cover -Don't apply the parking brake -Manuel cars should be blocked and parked in N DON"T START THE CAR FOR 5-10 MIN! The worst thing you can do to an engine is start it after it sits for a while. There is no oil the first few cranks and that is when the most engine wear occurs. When spring comes: change the oil + filter Pull plugs and oil again pull the EFI fuse crank a few times without starting to get the oil pumped through. Keep cranking until the idiot light goes off or oil pressure is high Replace fuse and start. Drive easy to use up old gas and fill with fresh. If it was more then 6-8 months the fuel should be drained and replaced before starting.
  4. I like it. We tend not to get trolls in this section as everyone is a bit humble with their skills. Those who have them offer great advice. You can combine subjects with settings too. Subjects: Pets/animal shots Cars in strange places self portrait Mirrors Light Fire Earth Water frozen Moving objects People Nature In house Outdoors Public Magnetism Stars Death/Life Kids Industrial Soft To learn settings: Night Only Flash only Must use slow/fast shutter Must use small/large F-stop High/low ISO Zoom/Wide Sun,cloud, florescent, incandescent lighting without color adjusting on camera High Contrast B/W only
  5. Obviously you like Supra's. They are Toyota's pony car that is crazy fast, expensive, and does not turn. Sure they look great, but having owned a MR2 Turbo for 7 years, old turbos are expensive to maintain. Imagine 2 turbos, that would be another $200 a month in maintenance on top of a car payment. Good luck finding a stock twin Supra for a decent price. Find a car that cost $30k and compare it to the BRZ, not a 1998 Supra Turbo with a base MSRP of over $55,000. You could get a Corvette that was 500lbs lighter and had another 50hp that handled better, stopped better and accelerated much better for about $12,000 less.
  6. I gotta say the BRZ is a blast to drive! Now that I have broken it in, what a hoot. People poo poo the stock tires, they do suck, but make for fun times doing burn outs and sliding the tail around turns. The car handles amazingly! The power is decent, but "turn-ins", stomping the gas, shifting, you need to drive one before you bad mouth it, just like a miata. Now for you haters out there: Top ten cars pf 2012 Jalopnik BRZ/FRS got #2 http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/1888kqv4w7k3yjpg/xlarge.jpg Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 named Carsguide's Car of the Year it was a tie, first time in 16 years http://resources0.news.com.au/images/2012/12/13/1226536/278160-carsguide-car-of-the-year.jpg Subaru BRZ Named 2013 AutoGuide.com Reader’s Choice Sports Car of the Year http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/wp-content/uploads//2012/12/2013-Subaru-BRZ-SCOTY.jpg In Motortrend it made the top 25, but they picked the new Tesla S as the Car of the Year. That is a neat car, but I don't agree with picking a non gas car as the huge cost of a replacement battery is never mentioned when purchasing a hybrid. Tesla at least has this on their site Other reviews say it will cost about 30% more at the 8 year mark if you don't pre-purchase a battery. http://s1.aecdn.com/images/news/tesla-models-s-official-photos-and-details-released-5372_1.jpg
  7. Damn look at those presents, voted.
  8. My in-laws have one aboug 5 years and love it. Personally my wife and I bought a temperpedic and love it. We hate going away and using other mattresses.
  9. Why do migets laugh when they play soccer? . . . . . . . . . . The grass tickles their balls Why do farts stink? . . . . . . .. . . so deaf people can enjoy them too? What is the definition of a fart? . . . . .. . . Your body blowing little bits of shit in the air
  10. What does a fish say when it swims into concrete? . . . . . . . . . . .. . . Dam
  11. Tractor tires are filled with Calcium Chloride. It weighs more then water and will not freeze. Tires are filled to about 75% and the rest is air. Weights can also be added for additional traction. The problem arises when the ground is too wet to take the tractors out, aka right now. The ground is too wet for tractors with this additional weight at the moment, but it is too costly and time consuming to remove the fluid, so expect to see the corn standing tall in the fields until it either dries up for a week or the ground freezes in December. At Marysville where I teach, the agriculture department had a kid cut or bend a valve stem and the Calcium Chloride started to leak out. What a mess to fix that.
  12. That picture is amazing! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uQ8HZ8W3Cp0/UJ5oyPWEXCI/AAAAAAAANNk/fb7yl2dpOS4/s1600/374054_325621900878577_1927383317_n.jpg
  13. Nice pick up. Why does he need AWD? We are in central Ohio where there is little snow, nothing a FWD car can't handle, plus he gets better mpg the remaining 362 days of the year it is not snowing.
  14. I always put my parking brake on, so it will not work on my front wheel drive cars. Well, they could drag it a bit.
  15. I have done the HPDE with NASA the past 4 years and per weekend at Mid Ohio I spend: $400 entry fee $100 worth of tire wear $150 in gas $100 worth of brakes $40 in oil $50 in food I drive my car there, camp, and drive my car home for $800+ a weekend and I am NOT even wheel to wheel racing or staying at hotel/motel. I have thought about spec miata, you can get them for sale for $8k. Then you need a tow vehicle and a trailer and entry fees. Don't go exotic, my MR2 is different, but not exotic and I have many issues at the track: no extra parts, when I do go to Toyota, it is 2 days to order No one has advice to help set up a mid engine car or how to drive it Turbos are PITA, hose blow off, heat soak, lag mid corner Doesn't fit into a race class competitively. While my friends M3 runs perfect, easy to drive, and he can ask for advice and people have spare parts if he needs. Take your BRZ to some HPDE events at Mid Ohio, close, cheap, and you get an instructor. Then get your competition license in a year or two. HPDE is a lot of fun with little risk. Geico even insurances you at HPDE events.
  16. Turn out has been good. I will be there with the BRZ. Cool in the morning so dress warm.
  17. Wow, how did you do that? Looks great.
  18. About 10 of us are doing it at work, we are high school teachers. Kids think it is awesome and we look silly. It is all in good fun.
  19. Michelin Just ordered a set for my Element. I have Goodyear somethings on there past 4 yrs, they suck, always did. Michelin were about $750 installed at Discount Tire with road warranty ($25 a tire).
  20. What model is it? Some have a CO detector that shuts them off, if there is not proper venting that will trip. Spiders like to clog up the small lines the gas goes through during the summer, take them all off and clean them out. Will it keep running if you push the pilot button down and hold it? Does the pilot go out with the rest of the gas? They are usually simple. The regulator could also be bad.
  21. This is a weak thread with no pictures. Had a Halloween party last night, the whole house was decorated with black lights and spooky stuff, except the dinning room, which was Christmas to match our costumes. My wife made these, took her about 3 weeks to do it. Mine also has a pocket to hide maple syrup in the sleeve: http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq342/xyster101/Halloween/DSC_8796.jpg My wife also painted the dogs with white and glow in the dark paints. They looked awesome, going to wash it off today. http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq342/xyster101/Halloween/DSC_8859.jpg Some of the decorations consisted of a haunted clock I made where the minute hand spins backwards at 20 rpm and the pendulum swings: http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq342/xyster101/Halloween/DSC_8768.jpg Bones fire place: http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq342/xyster101/Halloween/DSC_8775-1.jpg And if you missed the other thread I made, the entrance to our driveway which I built: http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq342/xyster101/Halloween/DSC_8757.jpg
  22. That is awesome, especially for a "whipped up" costume. Definitely add a GoPro
  23. It is actually in southern Delaware, I moved and never changed that. Orange Rd between 315 and 23
  24. And how a engine is assembled. For only 5 minutes of work, they sure charge a lot for one:
