  1. really lacking motivation to work on the car lately... so I made a hodgepodge of old videos
  2. Chrysler engineer... owns all GM vehicles lol
  3. LT4 is a ridiculous motor. Cant wait until everyone knows what all the LT4 is going into eventually
  4. The machinist got back to me on the head and stated from what he saw the car was experiencing fuel washing issues. Other than that, the head was in decent condition and should not have been causing the oil loss as I described it. He mentioned the bottom end was more likely the cause of my oil burning. I will need to pull the bottom end apart to confirm. So most likely I will need 87mm rings and a new headgasket to get her on the road.... and about 30-40 hours of labor.
  5. Nope. Not one drop. I was amazed at how clean they were. Both hot and cold side were completely dry with no stains. Cold Side pipe (just before Throttle body): http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a440/miller11386/20140506_180213_zps9yubmenq.jpg Hot side Pipe (just after turbo): http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a440/miller11386/20140505_193558_zps7pfcxcks.jpg
  6. I hope you got a deal on that plug and pin kit... mine would have been cheaper!
  7. unless this turbo magically pushed oil into the combustion chamber, yes. I have photos of when I got it. No oil issues were on it, and it clearly had exh soot on the fins. It was far from clean. Could there also be a turbo issue? sure... is it likely? doubtful.
  8. unsure of the culprit, but 3 suspected sources of the oil burning piston rings valve guides valve stem seals. I will have the head gone through this week. If that all checks out, I will be having new high temp Viton seals installed on re-assembly and then replace the rings in the motor. It has really put a damper on my enthusiasm for this year. I will be rebuilding in due time and it may or may not see the drag strip this year.
  9. that's not what im doing. Yes the piston is moving slightly but you can hear a rush of air once the crank is loaded. Google "total seal ring problems" and you will see why I believe its the rings. Motor will be torn down this weekend to see what's going on. Worst case I bought a HG which is worth the peace of mind to me.
  10. I am getting odd leak down numbers... like the cylinder is either out of round or has ingested foreign material. I can get the cylinder to seal in some places with no load and once you put a bit of weight on the crank, it leaks like a sieve. Looks like it is time to tear down and find out what happened.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMcgZ08XPjU
  11. Maybe next year. Looks like it wont be anything quick to fix.
  12. Pulled the intake mani...
  13. Leak down was a flat 45% across the board. All cylinders reflected that. Pulled the cams and the first two intake valve seals. Both looked to be in find shape. I ended up replacing them because the ones I pulled were ruined. Warm Leak down: Seal that was in the motor: The last questionable thing is maybe a turbo oiling issue, but it is difficult to tell if the oil was collecting on the turbine wheel and dripping back in, or if it was leaking from the turbo itself... Manifold Collector: Oil Soaked Turbine housing: Also another side note.... the burning oil has continuously gotten worse. It was smoking badly when it was pulled in the garage yesterday. Debating on putting it all back together and trying my 80mm to see if I have the same results.
  14. Buyers guide from one of my fellow skyroadster pals. Much more detailed and done by a guy who understand the cars, not by some blog jockey
  15. all depends on how your doors and hood line up and are adjusted. its a good practice not to shut the hood with the doors open unless you like chipping your door paint
  16. Sky Dyno with 2871 turbo, tune, plus full bolt ons: Beating the dog shit out of the car when I put it back to stock and just before it sold. Can you get the groceries in it? No.. can you put a baby seat in it? No. Is it fun as hell to go cruise and play around? Absolutely. Such a blast to go beat around in. Enough power to be fun, but nothing you had to worry about controlling on dry roads. There are many times I wish I still had one just to play around in.
  17. No doubt. My first inclination was "omg turbo is junk" when I saw oil pouring out. However I found the plugs are soaked and there is a puddle of oil on every piston. So either ALL 6 rings let go or the stock valve stem seals didn't like the E85 laden Brad penn that sat in it all winter. It could be that or more to do with the motor sitting dry for a few years w.o oil. I moved it around a few times w.o oil before I in stalled it, so it was probably somewhat my fault as well. Just time to suck it up and do the valve stem seals and call it a day.
  18. Had one and enjoyed it. You shouldn't do anything to it but a tune. Other than that, very fun cars. Handle better than most and can fly around. Yes they are not vettes. They also don't have the vette price tag. As far as reliability, I changed oil in my sky and put tires on it. That was the extent of maintenance it required in my 45k miles of ownership I nodded mine but it's all a waste past a tune. You really have to get nutty past 350 who to get power. But it is a very well balanced car and drives nice. Mods I would do if I did it again? Backbone and probeam from ddmworks plus a tune.. Hpt or similar.
  19. Why do you say that? Turns out it looks like a valve stem seal issue. Old turbo has no issues but currently isn't for sale. Found out class rules changed to allow 80mm cast turbos to be permitted on auto cars
  20. Well currently trouble shooting an oiling issue. Lots of smoke out the exhaust. Will be tearing into it soon.....
  21. Well I do have a mishimoto upgraded Rad, so maybe that is the difference. Only time I had issues keeping the car cool was because the coolant system was half empty!
  22. This Dogecoin car is my second favorite design after Kurt Busch did the Talladega nights "ME" Theme.... http://www.boston.com/sports/blogs/thebuzz/may12sports/609kurtbusch.jpg
  23. Mine stays cool without issue. However I went to electrical fans for the cleaner look and not losing HP at high RPM due to the rotating mass of the fan and clutch. It actually weighs quite a bit!
