Rear Stand: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&category=10066&viewitem=&item=110118983268&rd=1 In the pic it is the one on the right. You use it to elevate the rear of the bike off the ground - makes chain maintenance and cleaning the wheels easier.

Most of the drug busts, captures of people on the run, etc, come from routine traffic stops. so let me make sure I have this right. Pull everyone over harass them and give them BS tickets and hope that they are drug smugglers that is a poor way to do police work. I'm not just lucky. There is a reason we, as sportbike riders, are targeted. Think about it.

Good post, John. It's on us as the riding community to police ourselves. If we don't, the politicians will, and we'll like the results even less. I've been riding for 8 years and been stopped once by the police. I received a ticket for speed (still not sure how he got me, but whatever). Other than that one time, I have never been stopped and I don't have the police hassling me. I think it's more than just luck. I'll admit, that I speed, but I don't haul ass at 100+ in traffic, weave in and out, and generally make a nuisance of myself. I try and keep my antics confined to places where no one will see me acting the fool.

Good sliders will go into your engine mounting bolts - this is sometimes why you have to cut your fairings. If your engine mount bolts are behind the fairing, break out he holesaw. They are a good investment for stupidity like dropping your bike (which you will do if this is your first bike). Ask me how I know. Thorne, I have a rear stand that might fit your bike if you are interested. You'll need a set of swingarm spools, but rear-stands are a useful thing to have. PM me if you are interested. Check out http://katriders.com/forums/ and do a search for 'sliders'. One of the members there makes them, but you will need to register and then post to be able to get to the section where he sells them.

I'm somewhat easy on it for the first 100 miles or so. I'll run it up to 6-7K in lower gears then let out of it, try to shift gears to vary the RPMs etc. After that I am less concerned. I don't redline the bike for a while, though. Mostly the break-in period for me is also a familiarization with the bike time. That may be part of the reason manufacturers recommend a 600 mile break-in. One thing I do is change the oil around the 100 mile mark. The idea is to get the bad oil with tiny shavings in it out of the bike. Put the correct weight, but cheap-ass dino oil in it, because you will be changing it at 600 miles also. I don't change the filter until 600 miles. BTW, you don't necessarily need to buy motorcycle specific filters. I've never done it on my bikes - I grab the service manual and a torque wrench and check all the bolts for tightness, check fluids, change oil/filter etc. I know they claim there is a valve check involved on yours (my ZX-14 doesn't need that at 600 miles!), but I highly doubt that they do it, because checking valves would be around $200 by itself. ASK quoted me $250-300 for the 600 mile 'service', and, like I said, the ZX-14 doesn't needs valves checked. I'm not giving someone $300 to check fluids and tighten bolts. I'm really not even sure where that price comes from, because that whole process should take an hour or two, and there isn't much in the way of parts involved. If someone on here has done a valve check before and you really want it done, we could all get together and do it one day. I even have a garage if you need a place. I'm curious to see it done.

89 Fox convertible with a 88 turbo tbird engine in it runnin 10 lbs of boost Never had this happen before. I was on the entrance to 270 from Sawmill road southbound. I hit the exit ramp at about 35 mph. Ground was wet from rain (it had been raining all day). Things are fine, I'm smooth into the turn, next thing I know the ass-end breaks loose like I'm on ice! WTF? I wasn't getting on the gas, just holding a steady throttle, car wasn't even in boost I think I was in 4th gear. I tried steering into the turn, but no go, so I stood on the brakes and spun off into the grass. Missed the yield sign by a couple of feet. I was kind of stunned because the whole thing happened so fast and it just lost it like I was on ice or oil. I'm at a loss why the car would do this - are convertible foxes notorious for sudden oversteer like this? I was thinking maybe a combo of tires + wet pavement plus cresting and starting downhill reduced traction and caused the spin. We're all ok (kids were in the car, too), and the car wasn't damaged. The tires have plenty of tread, but maybe they are just poor rain tires. The car is prone to spinning the tires in the rain.

Zecho, how big is your kid? my son wants to ride with me - I have a helmet for him and gloves now, but we're having trouble getting a jacket that is close to being proper sized. He is 8. and probably averageg size for an 8 year-old.

I can't recall for certain , but don't the mains open around 5-6K? Maybe it is mis-jetted or there is a problem with the float bowl level. When is starts acting up, does it seem to be running rich? Other ideas: Fuel filter, bad gas?

I've got a motorola V551, wall charger and car charger, extra face plate, still has the manual, and a belt clip (although the clip is cracked - still works fine). Just had the phone turned off since I switched carriers. $40 if you want it.

Joe, thanks - the flies are staying in - I doubt I'll be modding this bike for quite some time unless it is the seat or heli-bars. At some point the flies will come out. I don't like the idea of a sudden hit at 6000 RPM when I'm in a corner. I'm amazed at how how smooth it is. It runs 80mph in 5th gear at 5000 RPMs - the ZX-9 needed 6th gear for that. My son is excited about getting to ride with me on it now. What is your ID on zx14.net - I signed up for it yesterday.

OK. The deed is done. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth I went with the ZX-14 - ask had a 2006 blue one on the floor so I hooked up with it. I was a total nervous wreck all day still vacillating after reading internet threads like 'I was turning a corner and gave it some throttle, then wondered why I was on my ass'. I've only ridden 7 miles, but I think I'm going to be very happy with it. Very nifty dashboard and readouts. I was afraid it would be a beast, but it's pretty docile - I haven't had it above 5K RPM/80mph. It doesn't feel much different than the ZX-9, but I *am* being very gentle with the throttle.
