  1. Everyone, nice to meet you. I was the guy on the Green ZX-9 (Larry). Sorry, I didn't get all your names. Too many people, and too many pretty girls. Not sure who the guy on the Rd/black GSXR-600 (red helmet/Jordan jacket) who was bringing up the rear, but way to keep your ego in check. Most guys I know would have pushed too hard and put themselves in danger. Same to the ady on black/gray gixxer with the pink jacket. Tolli - thanks for the free gas! Everyone needs to do a track day this year - you will be amazed in the how much better a rider it will make you. I went home via route 56/Circleville. About the same distance but it isn't all highway. A couple pics I took: http://home.columbus.rr.com/lmosle/hocking/DSCF0043.JPG http://home.columbus.rr.com/lmosle/hocking/DSCF0044.JPG http://home.columbus.rr.com/lmosle/hocking/DSCF0045.JPG
  2. Not a bad first bike. $3500 for it seems a little steep. I think they are only 6K new.
  3. She won't be riding with me a lot, but the ability for her to ride with me when she gets the chance is important. I'm considering the 'busa as well. What are the plans for '08?
  4. Cool - thanks Joe. You goona be out with Putty and Co. tomorrow?
  5. See if this helps. I think their runs are near sea-level, but it gives you and idea. http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_performance_numbers/index5.html 98 and 99 models are identical. As you can see, it ain't no slouch. They also have weights and measures: http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_weights_measurements/index5.html and dynos!: http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/street_bike_dyno_charts/ I like mine. Fun bike, if a little top-heavy, though. Are you looking at getting one?
  6. It isn't supposed to be that cold, at least not until late. It won't be in the 40s until 3am: http://wwwa.accuweather.com/index-forec ... =43085&u=1 Thinking of heading to campus - I haven't been there in years. What time does it pick up?
  7. Guys, I'm considering trading my ZX-9 in. I'm stuck. I want a bike that can 'do it all'. Occasional track days (once or twice per year), long(er) distance rides, daily commuting, and can tote the wife from time to time. I don't want a full blown tourer (yet). I'm considering: CBR1000RR ZX-10 ZX-14 The ZX-14 meets the last 3 criteria, but I'm not sure how it is on track and I'm somewhat concerned about the weight (nearly 100lbs wet more than my XZ-9) in day-to-day living. I have found several leftover 06's to boot. The ZX-10 is, well, the ZX-10. Powerful motor, obviously can do track days. Not sure on pillion and long distance comfort, although they can be made more comfortable I suppose. Only problem I can only find 07 models, and I don't really want to pay a premium for an 07. Also, with the way the exhaust is built, it looks like saddle-bags aren't really an option without spending $$$$ on aftermarket CF cans. The 1000RR is sort of like the ZX-10. I don't have a problem with Hondas and the leftover 06s I have found are going for cheap. I'm sure I would be happy with this bike as well - the liter bikes are all so close that in real world I'll never really know the difference. I've heard that the undertail can make the pillion get a little roasty. The limited range on the 10R and 1000RR also somewhat concern me. I have considered the Haybusa as well, but it seems everyone and their mother has one. So, has anyone ridden all three (or two of the three) and can give me some comparisons?
  8. Shit. I guess it is Saturday. Already have plans for Saturday.
  9. Putty is planning a ride on Sunday
  10. That's what a 50-100 million budget can do for you.
  11. 4 gallons of gasoline, 4 quarts of oil, coolant and brake fluid. It all adds up quickly.
  12. I'll try to make it as well. What is the destination area?
  13. The quick bikes will be at Mid-Ohio first weekend of August.
  14. What kind of bikes have you had before, because any of the 600 supersports can hurt you pretty easily. The R6 is the least street-friendly of the 600s from a power-delivery standpoint. It makes the power, but it's mostly at the top end and has nothing in the mid-range, which is where a street-bike spends 95% of it's life. It's also geared really tall. Nothing that a sprocket change can't take care of, however. I read a shootout in Superbike that covered the 06 bikes, and they weren't all that impressed with the R6, even saying that although it was the most track-oriented, it was the hardest bike to get anything out of. The Honda 600RR, Suzuki GSX-R600, ZX-6R, and Triumph 675 were all just easier to ride. It also suffered from rattling your fillings on the street. In the end, even 10 year old 600s offer more than 98% of us can use. Pick the one that you like the best and don't worry about which bike is 'better' according to the mag shootouts.
  15. Damreds, I have a box that you can have - it came out of a 99 Cobra. Ported box. There's a sub in it, but the gasket that suspends the cone is ripped. If you're interested, let me know and I'll get dimensions.
  16. Drifting on that bike would be no problem. I guess if you want to go 180+, then that bike won't cut it. Still, a fun bike for the street.
  17. And if you aren't able to use it on a road course that means the only time you can use it is in a straight line. More power isn't ALWAYS better. There is a limit to what can be practically used on the street (and in race conditions). edit: Give me a street situation that you can use 170HP. I'm curious as to what that would be, other than street racing (which we don't do here. )
  18. I guess if all you do is go in a straight line...
  19. You ran across what we in the biker community like to call a 'squid' or a poser. What gives him away? Creeping through a turn at 5mph.
  20. The ultimate hooligan bike. linc5.0 - it's a triple so the output is going to be down some compared to other 1000s. Triumph was not concentrating on raw power, but it has a beautiful flat torque curve. Having 170 HP is nice and all, but you can't use that much on the street.
  21. Almost 30hp from an exhaust, race fuel, remap, and degreed cams? Seems like an awful lot to gain - that would also mean that AMA Superbikes and WSB have to be in the 230 HP range. These bikes are something else though. 10 years ago, MotoGP bikes didn't have the kind of power the liters have stock.
  22. Yes, but the fuel pump in it is dead. The whole unit is still in the tank (sender, etc) I replaced the whole assembly with an 03 tank/pump setup in the car since I had it on hand.
  23. FWIW, 990cc MotoGP bikes made around 240 HP - they had to have a pretty sophisticated traction control electronics package to make use of the power, and even then, it was too much power - those bikes could and would still haze the tires. The riders are now lapping faster on the less powerful 800cc machines partly because the power is more manageable. What is the power hit like on a turbo bike? Is it smooth or does it suddenly come on?
