  1. When I was truck shopping I had way more success on facebook marketplace than anywhere else. Easier to directly contact the seller if you thought it was going to go fast too.

    Ham Radio

My father-in-law has messed around with Ham Radios and radios in general for decades. Has an entire steel building on his property dedicated to just radio equipment and has a broadcast studio there as well. I've talked to him about it multiple times but alot of the stuff is over my head. He use to seek out and purchase old radio station amplifiers, he'd purchase this huge pieces, refurbish them and use them. Pretty cool, alot of this stuff was from the 50's-60's so they're old art-deco cabinets and stuff. EDIT: actually, while looking for a pic of an old amp came across this link, an interview with my father-in-law lol https://www.radioworld.com/columns-and-views/seriously-collecting-broadcastings-big-iron

    Texas

Just curious, like what? When I visited Boise last year all the locals had the same complaint, an influx of Californians were ruining their town somehow... fucking Boise, Idaho. Sorry to get off topic OP.
  4. Keep in mind, Dave Ramsey doesn't advocate for this until you're completely out of debt and saving for retirement already. Until those two things are accomplished he advises you purchase the cheapest mode of transportation possible to not waste any money on a car when there are other, more important financial matters to deal with.
  5. For me, I didn't want to be drowning in a huge car/truck payment every month so the finances were more important than the car itself. As in any negotiation, information is power and power is leverage. Knowing things like your credit score, who you're pre-approved with and for what amount and what the interest rate is for that pre-approval is huge. I had way more leverage in negotiating a deal when I knew all of this information at the table. That... and I wasn't afraid to simply walk away if i didn't really like what I was getting. I usually only go with credit unions, traditionally they have offered the best interest rate. When i purchased my '16 Tacoma I was pre-approved though Telhio CU, but the dealer actually found a better interest rate though Kemba... I went with Kemba. Dealers will often try and sell warranty coverage packaged with the sale. These products are loaded with incentives for the dealer to make a lot of money so they push them pretty hard. Had i purchased the highest coverage my monthly payment would've increased by $130 lol. I just politely said no thanks. You can fund your own repairs for a fraction of what they offer in their warranty's. Lastly, If I'm 23 I'm not buying a $30,000 car with an 8 year note that will be worth pennies on the dollar at the end of the loan. Cars are always depreciating and to sink that much of your financial life into something that will be worth nothing in the end is just crazy. My personal opinion, buy a used Camry and call it a day. Sure it's boring but it'll last until you're 30 and in a few years when it's paid off you're only paying for gas and insurance until you want something else or its finally dies.

    CCW Class?

I took Joe's course a while back and highly recommend it. Very informative, smaller class size so you can actually ask questions and get something out of it. The classes I've taken in the past always seemed like they wanted as many people there as possible to make the most amount of money on each class.
  7. There are huge office and desk setup videos on youtube, you could go through those to get some ideas as well. What kind of work do you do? what do you value or absolutely need?
  8. those things are so damn cool. Not sure how great they would be as a DD but that would be a must have for sure. I gotta say i would probably have a variety of "cool cars", someone mentioned a v8 volvo (yup), a Grand National, maybe the gratuitous AMG land missle or a tesla, gotta have a truck of some sort. Maybe like an overland capable Tacoma or 4runner. Just an array of cool, unique cars.
  9. Sounds like you're going to a much better company. Simple cost/benefit, is the $1000 worth your time and money to fight him for it, and should the judgement be in your favor how likely is he to pay it, and pay it in a timely manner (ie, 5$ a week for 200 weeks etc...)? If you think he's shady enough to just not pay it then he's shady enough to fight you in court to save himself the $1000. It would be a lot different if this were a larger company with a real HR department that documents everything. Is it right? Hell no, how the fuck do you run a business like that? This guy sounds like a child. Just another reason to illustrate why you're leaving too.
  10. How big is the company? Just curious but why are you leaving? Do you have any reason not to trust your boss to do the right thing? I'm going to assume the answer to the last question is No, in which case what are your options. It'll be your word against his and he has all the proof of any vacation days at all so good luck winning that argument in any sort of court or mediation. My opinion is you're gonna go to battle over what is going to amount to a few hundred dollars at most (not sure what you make obviously just an assumption), using your own time and money and in the end you want to leave the company anyway. I would ask for payment of the 5 unused days and leave it up to him to do the right thing, if he doesn't then he just reinforced the reason for your leaving in the first place and leave early.
  11. Holy shit I didn't even know that was a thing. So basically the more time consuming the job the higher the cost per hour for every hour. Fuck that. To the original post, I'm find with calling your labor our a standard rate. Lets say $100, but if you're going to charge me 1 hour for diag you better be actually diagnosing the problem not just charging the hour after making up your mind you're going to throw parts at it. That is by far my biggest pet peeve. Diagnose the issue. i don't want to come back, you don't want me to come back so just make sure you know what's wrong and aren't just throwing new parts at the car hoping one of them fixes the problem. I think $80/hour is fine. But, like what Brian said, I don't want to be charged an hour to flush some fluids, make small simple jobs like that a flat rate.
  12. That's fair, i was trying to keep as many limitations off as possible but to give you a sense of what I've been looking at for the past week is mostly Subaru's (Outbacks and Legacy's), Accords, Acura TSX, the odd low-mileage civic sprinkled in here and there, silverado's, Tacomas, 4Runner's, Tundra's, F150's, you get the idea. So I like functionality, affordability and trucks. I listen to Dave Ramsey at work a lot and while I'm not a die-hard of his I do believe in purchasing well below your means, after all money spent on a car payment is money I can't save or invest with. So I can technically afford a more expensive car/truck I just don't want a $500+ car payment every month. Hence my issue, I would really want a low mile used Tacoma or 4Runner but those just don't exist under $27k from what I can find. The rare one that does mean it has a salvage title or way too many miles on it. I like Subaru's b/c they very functional cars and they're very affordable, I wouldn't be breaking the bank buying a low mile used outback. Ive found some really low mile civics that I could pay off in a year and keep for the next 10 years but ... out of all of the boring cars I mentioned its by far the most boring. So yeah I just wanted to see what other people would suggest, maybe give me a different view that I hadn't thought of.
  13. I have $15,000 to purchase a new-used car/truck/suv, what should I buy? Only stipulations is it has to be at least a four door and driven year-round (so no used corvette's). We have an old Wrangler in the garage so it wouldn't be driven in heavy snowfall anyway. oh and no salvage titles.
  14. yeah I don't mind paying 5$ but I just dont want a few hundred bullshit emails from people trying to trade me their airsoft rifle and a couple cases of moutain dew for my truck.
  15. Selling my truck, love this thing and honestly thought I'd keep it forever but we need something that can fit more than two humans. 2008 Tacoma Standard Cab 4X4 2.4L four cylinder engine 117,xxx miles Manual transmission AC Tan in color, Grey interior manual windows and door locks CD/AM/FM/Bluetooth (aftermarket plugin) Hard tonneau cover painted to match the body The Good: Awesome little truck that will literally go anywhere. Fun in the snow or any in-climate weather. obviously lots of cargo room. New starter and battery. Newer front tires. Bluetooth, row your own gears while enjoying the ice cold AC The Bad: Plenty of little dents and dings but nothing huge, definitely not a show truck. The hard cover has some sizeable scratch's on it from the previous owner but other than that works great. rear tires will need to be replaced sooner rather than later, front pair are good for a while. Price: $8,000 KBB shows private party value between 7800-8900 So I'll set it right in the middle. I'm working on photos but if you're interested shoot me an email at rse7en@yahoo.com and I can send you a few right away.
  16. Haven't sold a car in a while. Other than here where does everyone prefer to post them up for sale? FB marketplace, Craigslist? Obviously trying to avoid tirekickers who have no interest in actually buying my truck and just want to throw out insane trades.
  17. Those seats remind me of a cobra and look crazy comfy. nice car.
  18. Ha i have the same TE, literally late in the draft and thought "fuck i forgot to draft a TE, well lets see who's left... Mark Andrews is probably the whitest name I've ever seen, great you're my new TE Mr. Andrews i guess". Last draft tonight. Friendly .5 point PPR, 12 teams, 3 teams have never done fantasy football before so I expect them all to try and draft Tom Brady in the first round.
  19. wow that sounds... interesting. I could get into something like that but its def best with the same group every season i'm sure or else you have to hand off someone elses drafted team to a new guy. This is the first year of one player keeper. No stipulations on what round they're taken but only one player can be held over. I 'like your league's strategy so everyone stays invested late in the season.

    Dear CR

Anyone else expect the original post to just say, "Be Better"? Just me? ok.
  21. I'm a bit late to the party this year, only started doing mock drafts yesterday and started reading up on players this week (I largely ignore NFL in the offseason) with a draft Saturday and Monday night. How many drafts are you guys in? Any "must haves" or sleepers you wanna share? I won my PPR last year thanks to drafting Sequon Barkley in the first and Christian Macaffrey dropping to me in the second then scooping up Mahomes in the 8th round. Needless to say there's no way in hell I'm that lucky this year.
  22. Of course, finally get a new starter relay and it doesnt work. not totally sure where to go from here. Who does CR take there cars to that won't absolutely screw them over?
  23. So a small update: Luckily I had purchased a lifetime warranty starter from Autozone, last weekend I took the "new" one out and exchanged it for a new one under the warranty. Everything was fine for a few days until Thursday the same issue happened after i got off work. Turn the key and nothing, eventually after trying for several minutes the motor turned and I was on my way. Same issue happened today. I'm gonna try to swap the starter relay and maybe that will solve the problem. The only other options from the haynes manual is checking all connections, battery terminal, loose wires, etc... typical stuff that all looked ok.
  24. Yeah all electronics turn on and function. Seems to be an issue on warm startup, if the truck sits for a while it will start on the first turn.
