  1. And what about those of us that are completely confused by this?
  2. In 9mm, its a heavier bullet with a slightly weaker charge to not push it supersonic for use in suppressors. Overpenetration is still possible. Hell, all 45acp loads are subsonic. Just carry JHP, be mindful of what is behind the target, and try not to overthink it.
  3. You're learning fast newbie. Very good reasoning as to why just carry "normal" ammo vs alternating rounds. Don't forget that its all irrelevant if you can't hit what you are aiming at, fast, and every time.
  4. Please learn the difference between hollowpoints and frangible rounds before posting about it again.
  5. If I recall, air marshals supposedly carried frangible rounds at one point. By all accounts, they no longer do. Frangible rounds make sense on an airplane, once again, specific use case. Alternating rounds kinda defeats the purpose of the specific use case.
  6. Sounds kinda silly. Different ammo in different mags would make more sense. Personally, I think your average JHP in your caliber of choice is the best way to go for most folks. If you are so worried about ammo that you alternate rounds in your mag, you spend WAY too much time on gun forums. In all fairness, I have had multiple types of ammo loaded in a mag before, but it was a specific use case. I would carry a pistol with the first few rounds in the mag being "snake shot" when hiking on my family's property in SE Ohio due to the number of copperhead sightings.
  7. It's meant for specific use cases, not as an end all/be all. Underpenetration can be just as bad as over penetration. Think of this, if you have a self defense scenario and the bad guy takes cover behind something, consider yourself screwed.
  8. For what its worth, I don't have liability insurance. I have several attorney options handy, one of which is an FFL/ nra instructor. The NRA will also help provide legal assistance should you ever defend yourself with a firearm.
  9. Too bad your attorney doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. All those ammo types you mentioned are standard hollowpoints not frangible rounds. Frangible rounds are meant to breakup on impact to avoid overpenetration. An example would be the glaser safety slugs. Hell, according to your attorney's logic, frangible ammo may be best to use for self defense since its less likely to over penetrate or ricochet. I'd suggest a new attorney for any gun/self defense related issues you may find yourself in.
  10. Split it up amongst the family and find a dealer that will do consignment for you for the rest.
  11. Keywords there are personal choice. He asked a question regarding how to legally get them here, and I responded with the appropriate information. Now he can make a fully informed choice as to how to handled it. As to your comparison, there the consequences are far different between the two scenarios.
  12. I think you are over-reacting. Would you rather I encouraged him to violate the law ? If the estate is in Michigan, and ownership passes to Nate in Ohio, Federal Law requires that it be transferred via an FFL.
  13. That's why I've always primarily been a pistol guy, WAY less math.
  14. I would find a local FFL to work with to get this handled. You are essentially transferring ownership and an interstate transfer requires an FFL.
  15. I doubt most here do. For your average shooter/hunter type, knowing IPHY is close enough (1 inch vs 1.047 inches). Same for using meters vs yards. However, you get into service rifle, or benchrest/target type stuff, that difference becomes much more important.
  16. Not exactly. No matter how good the shooter is, if the weapon isn't capable it doesn't matter. Typically, the average weapon is better than the average shooter.
  17. For reference, the 9 ring on an 25m pistol target is 100mm across or roughly 4 inches. A good bullseye shooter will have at least a 9-ring hold if not better.
  18. Didn't say it was. You said good scope, not a scope adequate for 100m shooting. Hell, my $225 .17hmr + scope combo shoots under MOA at 100yds all day long. .5MOA with a particular ammo if I do my part. However, you'll never catch me calling that scope "good".
  19. No offense man, but at 25m, thats pistol level accuracy (one handed).
  20. You used the words good scope and under $400 in the same sentence. tsk tsk
  21. I've seen exactly 2 mini's that would shoot close to MOA. One actually shot sub moa, but it took $1400 to get it there.
