  1. Because of all the good reviews of state farm on here in the past years, I finally got quotes and eventually policies with them. Had them close to a year and really wasn't very happy with their rates so started doing some shopping and allstate ended up being cheaper for my car, bike, and renters policy. Granted this is in TN, but generally speaking I won't use state farm again.
  2. My father had lasik at least 15 years ago and still sees great. His script was -8 or so in both eyes. My ex gf also had the PRK her script was -8.5 that was almost 2 years ago. We still talk on occasion and she says her vision is still great. I don't wear glasses so can't speak for the surgery, but based on those in my life who've had it, I think it's great.
  3. I use the door frame as a guideline and adjust up and down from there, but don't exceed the max pressure that is on the tires sidewall. As for trailers, my trailer has a gvw of 1300lbs. Tires are load range of 1000 so the trailer fully loaded is about 75% of the tires max load. My tires have a max psi of 80 so I run them at 60psi. Less load, less air. Can't speak for lawn mowers, don't need one.
  4. The past two have been the first week of June. If that follows suit it will be June 5-8
  5. I did Duluth, MN to Dayton, OH via Bloomington, IL this past summer. It was 820 miles in just under 13 hours. I was getting mentally tired by the end of that ride. Another 180 miles wouldn't have been a problem if I would have stopped for an hour or two. I skipped lunch and basically dehydrated myself. I also was taking benedryl every 3 hours for a hornet or wasp sting on my neck that kept swelling up. Being fully healthy and eating/drinking fluids properly, 1000 miles should be pretty easy.
  6. There is some truth to that, however my thought behind that was just to rent the whole place out...I believe the group is big enough to do that. On that note and with more thought, there is no firepit nor some of the other amenities this group typically prefers. It is a good location, but maybe not the best location. Though a good fallback if nothing else was working out.
  7. There is no camping, but there are plenty of rooms at the Tuskeegee motel just down the road. It's my favorite place to stay when I'm down in the area. There is gas on site and a small convenience store. They have wi fi and cable. No alcohol sold there though. Rooms are cheap too. Www.tuskeegeemotel.com
  8. I do on occasion. It's been awhile though.
  9. You'd be surprised. I've seen similar positions used in the climbing gyms I go to.
  10. I agree. Assuming it was real, she would have a point...
  11. I may be interested in a nitro tank if the price is good.
  12. I'm gonna try to get another trip to deals gap before the year ends...still riding.
  13. All lines are dotted on the motorcycle, all the time. I pass cautiously usually. On a really good curvy road, I'll pass a bit recklessly if there is no inherent danger ahead.
  14. Much appreciated. She's cute. Good luck to her.
  15. Don't have facebook....can't see....who wants to post pics to the forum...
  16. I saw that this afternoon...good info, pretty impressive.
  17. I talked to the owner the other day. Ultra will be available to ship this week. Ultra start will be another couple months. Both have internal cell balancers. The ultra start has a nifty feature that will actually kill power flow if it starts getting low. A simple turn of the ignition key releases enough energy to reset the battery. Then start the bike an build up the voltage in the battery again. He said that feature was aimed toward riders who have neon lights and stereos, etc that run with the motor off.
  18. I'd go, that's only 7 hours for me. I tried to do this a few years ago with a different forum, but they werent running a novice group so I was unable.
  19. Just an fyi, and I think it was stupid and just a cop with a hard on for motorcycle's.... I was ticketed once because I didn't have the stock gauges on my bike and was using my GPS as my speedometer. It was an addition to a speeding ticket I got. It was an equipment violation that the bike didn't have the oem gauge assembly.
  20. The vfr1200 was marketed to compete withe the fjr and the C14 and it failed miserably. That's not saying it's a bad bike though. It is comparable to the N1000, except the N1000 does everything better. Again, I may be biased but I think it's quite a good looking bike too.
  21. You're a special case as is already obvious. If your reading comprehension skills were what you boast them to be you would see that the article feels street RPM are in the 4k-8k range
  22. I've read some about that, especially in the Chevy volt. If you can provide more info I'd be interested though.. Skyrich actually lists on their homepage that the batteries are non-explosive and non-combustible http://www.skyrichbattery.com/p7/Lithium-Ion-Motorcycle-Battery/pages.html The stark battery only lists it as being 'safe' I've been researching these batteries for a few weeks, and can not find anything conclusively to say that they aren't ready for production use and safe to the general public. There is risk in everything just as you mentioned, gas tanks above engines.. Lithium Iron Phosphate seems to be the make-up for these batteries while other lithium batteries contain cobalt or Manganese Oxide both of which are more unstable and flammable.
  23. My OEM conventional battery is getting a bit weak and it looks like time to get something new. I've been researching the new Lithium Ion options for motorcycles and it appears there seems to be quite a few options coming available now. Ballistic Anti-Gravity Shorai SkyRich Etc... The one that seems the most interesting to me is www.Starkpower.com it's a small company, not quite even to production yet. I spoke with the owner a couple days ago about his technology in the battery and am impressed with all that he has said. His batteries seem to be beyond the current trend, more CCA's than the other manufacturers, circuit board for load leveling of each cell, some interesting stuff. I asked about his projected shipping dates and he's planning on shipping out his first batch next week. His cost is considerably cheaper than the competition and I also asked about that, he want's to get his name into the market quickly and is going to be very aggressive with his pricing. I'm going to order one and see how it does. Check out the website and read up on the technology he has put into his batteries..
  24. I'm a bit biased toward this bike since I own a 2011. I've made some minor modifications to mine to make it more touring than sport, though it lacks nothing for sport riding still. I really feel like this is the ultimate bike for sport touring. Everyone seems to think the VFR is the bike to have, and up until Kawasaki came out with this bike I agreed. Now I don't think any other bike can touch the Ninja 1000. It combines the sport and the touring too well. For those that are wanting to get away from the supersports for something that is more comfortable without sacrificing the power of your current liter bike, this is the bike to have. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2013/09/2014-kawasaki-ninja-1000-abs-md-first-ride-part-2-2/ Horsepower/Torque (Nm) 4K RPM 5K RPM 6K RPM 7K RPM 8K RPM Kawasaki Ninja 1000 (2011 model) 46/83 61/88 75/91 95/97 115/105 BMW S1000RR (2010 model) 41/76 56/83 65/77 80/84 102/92 Kawasaki ZX-10R (2013 model) 38/68 52/76 65/78 79/83 100/92 That’s right, at street RPM levels, the original Ninja 1000 was faster. And they note in the article that they've made improvements for the 2014 model. That bike has got to be a beast.
  25. Good riding, I remember your post saying you were moving down. Give me a shout sometime, there's a lot of good riding in the area. I do a lot of my riding within a 2-3 hour radius of Nashville proper. We don't have to go to the gap for good riding, there's some awesome roads right in the backyard.
