FOR ME nascar is pretty much pro wrestling on wheels. Yes there is skill involved, and no not everyone can do it. But the biggest part is that it's a show, and it's currently a BIG money show. That's not to say it's bad for people to watch it. I think it's great to sleep to. The repitition of the cars going around puts me out in about 10 minutes on a nice sunday afternoon...very relaxing. I'd consider going to a race sometime because it's basically a giant party. Stay in the infield and it's a dumbed-down Derby effect going on in there. I'm sure it'd be great as long as you made it out alive. When I think of great drivers in this world, do I think nascar? NO, but some of the great drivers are going there because the money is SO convincing (Boris Said, Ron Fellows, Montoya, Villeneuve[WTF?]). I won't be suprised to see this trend continue. It will actually make me happy to see drivers from other series come over and drive out the good-ol-boy mentaility. You already see it happening in the road races. And I like Gordon for the simple fact that he can turn left AND right, and every time he wins all the nascar faithful cringe. It's great to hear them bitch about it.

You should delay a day. Andy and I will very likely be up there next Saturday
-
agreed. At least he's having some fun, and not pretending like he's better than you.
-
where did you do your research this? Where did you have your procedure done?
-
HOLY LIP BATMAN! yeah, you weren't kidding about a simple roll working. The tool can do what you need done, and do it as smoothly as possible, but I HIGHLY doubt that any shop is going to make any sort of claims as to not breaking the paint on something as extreme as that.
-
do you have the wheels already that you can test fit to see how much room you'll need?
-
that's going to be really tough to fight if the Feds get involved. Eventually they'll do what they did with the previous speed limit issues, which means that they'll withhold transportation funding from the states that don't adopt the policy until those states give in...sucks, but it's true.

wow, these pictures were harder to take than I thought. I apologize that I didn't have time to take off the wheel or anything to get pictures from the backside. If you want, we can meet up sometime and It'll give you a better idea. Please, no comments about how dirty my car/wheels are. I've been busy lately and the car has been through the rain, and there's construction all around my condo...hence the brown crap on my fenders. We'll start with this picture looking at the front of the car. You can see where the fender starts to turn upward on the inside. Originally this was about 3/4 of an inch higher up the fender and I was able to roll that down a bit. It also gives you an idea of how thick the fender was originally (a little bigger than the size of the "not folded" portion near the bottom) http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z56/kutschca/fenders009.jpg Here are a couple pictures looking up at the top of the fender http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z56/kutschca/fenders006.jpg http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z56/kutschca/fenders005.jpg close up of the top of the fender http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z56/kutschca/fenders001.jpg picture with my fat finger in there as reference since when I put the wheels on, I couldn't drive the car at all without rubbing http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z56/kutschca/fenders007.jpg here's where the rear of the fender meets the bumper. You can see where I tucked the very back of the fender down a bit more because this was a rub point. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z56/kutschca/fenders004.jpg Luckily I didn't have to go all the way flat with the fender lip so mine was what I would consider a mild roll. If you have to go all the way, you're likely going to crack the paint as it's just a bit far to go. I was still able to make a pretty noticeable increase in size though.

yeah, that kills me every time I see the commercials thinking about how pissed she must get about it...especially when they refer to is as YAZ....haha.

I'll try to snap some tonight. I apologize that I won't have before pictures.

Ty's right, but what he described as "blow thru" is actually considered a "pull thru" setup. In essence it's easy to think about if the carb is before the turbo, then the air is pulled through, if it's after the turbo, it's blown through...hence the names. Now if only tuning one of those systems was so easy On a bike, I've generally seen blow thru setups with carbs due to spacing restrictions, but anything is possible. Look up old turbo kits made by "Mr. Turbo" and you'll see some interesting stuff. Very hard to tune for the wide rev range that a bike sees though.

So what are you running for fuel control? I'm assuming it's stock ports since that's what Zavier mentioned and you state he helped put it together for you. I'm not trying to give you crap for your dyno, I'm just curious as to your setup.
-
^^ That's cool man, just trying to help out. If you want to see pictures of mine I can take some. It came out pretty well.
-
strong numbers for 10psi. Is the motor ported? Are you running a PFC?

I like F1 because of the technology and the tradition. You're correct that there isn't really any wheel-to-wheel racing in F1 anymore. People love it because it's the best drivers in the world driving the fastest cars (around a race track, let's not argue semantics) on the planet. People love to watch the best, and the history makers, which is why F1 is so popular. If you honestly think that there isn't any good motorsports on TV then you're just closing your eyes and lying to yourself. Speed GT and Speed Touring series are some of the best racing I've watched in years. MotoGP is always good to watch, and if we're lucky they'll actually show some of the Runoffs this year.

I had a pretty similar setup to you on my FWD talon. I ran the MAFT in a blow-through setup on the SMIC and 14b turbo. The biggest difference that I had was I ran an adjustable fuel pressure regulator that allowed me to run a higher base pressure to run a bit more boost. Although with the 255 pump you may be overrunning the stock return and running more than stock pressure anyway. I'd say if you'd like to stay on the safe side and just have fun with the car, I'd shoot for something like 15-ish psi. You can certainly go higher, but that's where tuning is going to become much more important to longevity of the car. If you want, I can see if I can dig my pocketlogger out from under whatever rock it's hiding behind and we can try to meet up and do a few runs to look at how things are doing. Ultimately you'll only be able to accurately tune the car with a logger of some sorts.
-
the only reason that I bring up doing it yourself is because any shop that I've ever seen do it makes you sign a waiver up front that the paint may crack on the fenders. This covers their ass (rightly so) since there's no way to tell the condition of the fenders/paint on so many different cars. Ultimately, unless you agree to pay someone by the hour for every hour they spend on your car (not flat rate like most shops quote), they likely won't take the time and care that you would. You are correct that some shops will have more experience with it, but how long do you think someone will spend when your $100 you paid them seems to not be covering the time they're spending on it?

Brian Fantana: I'll give this little cookie an hour before we're doing the no-pants dance. Time to musk up. Ron Burgundy: Wow. Never ceases to amaze me. What cologne you gonna go with? London Gentleman, or wait. No, no, no. Hold on. Blackbeard's Delight. Brian Fantana: No, she gets a special cologne... It's called Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good. Ron Burgundy: It's quite pungent. Brian Fantana: Oh yeah. Ron Burgundy: It's a formidable scent... It stings the nostrils. In a good way. Brian Fantana: Yep. Ron Burgundy: Brian, I'm gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline. Brian Fantana: They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time. Ron Burgundy: That doesn't make sense. Brian Fantana: Well... Let's go see if we can make this little kitty purr.

wow, it's cool to see that they've continued to update the product line. The WB support option on that is pretty kickass for something of that price point. Either way, the "street tune" process should be the same. Do they have base maps for different injector sizes that you can start with? From there, just use a logger to tune with or a wideband if you have one (i'm assuming not, otherwise you'd be using that feature). It's been a while since I did it, but back then the common practice was to tune to 18-20 degrees timing advance while maintaining very low knock (0-3 count). If you're getting more than 20 degrees, you can turn up the boost, less or knock, turn it down. I realize that I'm simplifying it A LOT but that's the basic premise that i used and it worked pretty well. What setup are you currently using (turbo, intercooler, injectors, motor build) and how much boost do you plan on running?
-
hrm...I had one way back when they first came out and had good results with it. Does it still have the knobs in the little black box? Do you have a logger for your car? I may be able to help out a bit.

Hal, I wish you the best of luck and hope everything turns out ok. to clear up a little confusion. 1. Kurt is the part owner of that particular store, not of the entire company. 2. When you purchase a bike on one of the credit card programs, you do not own the bike outright. There is still a lean on the bike, but since it is considered revolving debt the lenders do not require you to carry full coverage insurance. This practice was started some years ago to lure in younger sport bike buyers. In the beginning, some of the dealers would incorrectly do the title work which is why some owners would get the title to their bike sent to them, instead of it going to the lender. This was a mistake. The lender has as much claim to the bike as they did with a traditional installment loan, but now they can change your interest rate on a whim to something atronomically high when you miss a payment.

Big Dog is technically an OEM chopper. As for Japanese variants, I'd check out the Suzuki M109.

http://www.rollyourfender.com do it yourself my man. That way you can be sure that it is done to your standards. I HAVE used the same tool to do MY OWN fenders on MY CAR (is that enough personal experience for you? ). I did not get the tool from that site since I knew someone with one, but I have heard good experiences from people who rented it from them. I did not need a drastic roll, but still created almost an additional 1/2 inch of clearance without cracking paint and could have gone a bit further if needed. USE A LOT OF HEAT. I actually had my bother help me by him holding the heat gun (ahem...hair dryer) on the needed area while I just worked the roller tool. Take your time and you'll be fine.
