  1. Mr. Peepers will come to the rescue - don't worry!
  2. Nope - read an interview where Rick Nielsen of the band said he always wanted to have the number one selling 8 track. Now he's got it.
  3. If you're going to be that close to this route, (see below), then you just have to do it. Better than Deal's Gap in terms of turns and road surface,NO COPS, not as much traffic... Ends up in Boone, NC which is a nice little college town. Good place to eat and rest for a bit. And then hit the Blue Ridge Parkway over to Ashville and then I-40 into Tennessee.
  4. Cool beans - will keep you posted if we go. I'm around 75% sure I'll go right now - just waiting to see who's going with me and how we're getting there. Right now; I plan on tossing the Duc in the truck and heading down. I may pull a trailer with two bikes and another in the truck if a couple of friends come along. We'd be staying in the Alcoa / Maryville area - about 40 miles up Route 411 from Telico Plains. Telico is a bit more than 40 minutes from Deal's Gap - no matter which way you go - it'd be closer to 90 minutes. But no matter - we hope to see you there! I'll post up some info on when we'll be there (and if we'll be there) later.
  5. 4 or 5 lines is "extensive"? Maybe for the ADD crowd...
  6. Extremely short notice, but anyone wanna go? The wife is going to be outta town next weekend and it's the perfect opportunity for me to toss a Duc in the truck and head south. Probably leave late Thursday and ride Friday and Saturday, saddle up on Sunday and head back. SO far, one other rider from Indy is going with me. Anyone?
  7. When did it become the Government's responsibility to provide insurance? Does everything have to be spoon fed to people?

  9. We are planning on being in Santa Fe on September 8& 9th - staying both nights at the Hilton located on the corner of Sandoval & West San Francisco Streets - near the square downtown. We'll be the drunk guys sleeping under the bar - ya can't miss us.
  10. Last time I was there, it was a desert climate....
  11. The route is set... Heading out via I-70 to Denver and then into Utah. Next we'll swing south for a couple of drunken days in Santa Fe, New Mexico before heading east via Tulsa, Oklahome and back to Columbus. Hope it's not too hot out that week!
  12. I can make the part here and just mail it to you- should be easy enough to put on the bike with some simple hand tools. Only hard part would be running longer wires to the signals, but that's not too tough to do.
  13. Piece of cake - I'll do it for the cost of materials and a cold beer for the labor. I prolly have the materials lying around teh shop - so that won't cost much either. The beer will probably cost the most. I can also powdercoat it any color you want. Let me know if you want some help. Eric
  14. Hope you didn't use a "ball" type allen wrench. Those are for really low torque applicatiosn and are famous for rounding off when you crank on them. Ditto for old, rounded wrenches.
  15. I've seen you ride. You should have bought 6 of'em....
  16. I'll snap a few pics of it for sure. Doubt I'll ride it though - I don't want to decide that "I have to have one".
  17. We saw one lap the course at the NW200 in Ireland in May. Naturally, I didn't geta pic of it. Looked pretty cool and didn't sound any different than a Japanese four. Friend of mine bought 2 of them. He's going to race them and has one as a back up bike. He paid "$1,000 more than the R1" per bike. Dunno how much that is though. As soon as he gets then, I'll have one in my garage for a couple of weeks to make all of the frame sliders, rearsets, etc for it. I'm still not sure when that'll be though.
  18. My F-150 pick up gets right at 20 mpg with no trailer, might lose 3-4 mpg with a trailer and a heavy boat. The wife's Expedition gets around 18 mpg and a trailer with two bikes on it doesn't drop her mpg at all. Big V8 motors aren't all that much affected by small trailers. Smaller motors are gonna have to rev a lot higher and that's what kills the mpg so much.
  19. Some Utah, Colorado pics here: http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=30470 Santa Fe here: http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=18852&highlight=santa This was a car trip over Xmas last year - shows what Texas and Route 66 looks like though.
  20. Never understood the fascination with Route 66 Fully half of my friends from the UK have a burning desire to ride it. And those that have have a burning desire to never do it again. It pretty much sucks - hard to find actual portions of the road, most of it east of New Mexico is along interstates. There's not shit to see east of Santa Fe, either. Santa Fe is nice, but it starts to blow after that until you get into California. Weather will be beyond hot as well, If I had 8+ days to ride, this would be the last choice. Other options: 1) Ride the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Shenandoah Mtns area in PA - great rides. Work in a day or two at the Smithsonian in DC while you're at it. 2) Hit Colorado, Utah and Idaho. Some of the best riding and scenery in the USA. Sucks bewteen Ohio and Colorado though - not much you can do while crossing the plains other than search for fuel. Not a lot out there. 3) Florida to see Mom could be great if you incorporate a route through the Smokies and via Savannah, GA. I love that place. Cool places to stay, eat and drink along the waterfront area. 4) Lap of the Great Lakes - you want solitude? There's not shit up there as far as people go - especially along the Canadian side of Lake Superior. Loads of places to just pull of the road and camp. Few hotels, but enogh to get you by. Watch for moose after dark, bastards are everywhere! 4) Beach Ride - head to Virginia and ride teh coast all the way to Florida. Kinda crowded in areas, but lots to see and places to stay, eat, fuel are in abundance. Anything further west than Utah will take more time - especially on a cruiser bike. I did Laguna Seca in 9 days on a sport tourer, but we did big miles each day at elevated speeds. Need more time to go west. I've ridden all over the US - if you have a question about a specific area, let me know and I'll try to help. Should ahve some pics of ,most of the areas as well...someplace around here. Have fun whatever you do!
