ScubaCinci
Baring anymore whining by Dan here is my current itinerary. Anyone is invited to tag along, the pace will be brisk for a cruiser. Med to Med+ in OR terms. Friday after work. Rest area on I77 just south of 271 to Beckley WV leaving apx. 5:30.Saturday https://goo.gl/maps/EC4N6Tki7gF2 Beckley to Marion VA via 16, slab to 212/209 then to Cafe Rel then 28 to Robbinsville.Sunday https://goo.gl/maps/78sA7mQpdfm 28 to Walhalla SC, west to 68 via some nice stuff then north to Skyway to RobbinsvilleMon. https://goo.gl/maps/yv2G8xgdN5k Dragon then all backroads zig zagging through Dan Boone Nat. Forest to Lexington.Tues Lexington to Cleveland, probably via 62 because Cincy sucks. Was parsing your routes...that Sunday route is long 8.5 hours not counting stops. I hope my new seat works out better for me.What day is everyone else planning on returning? I have thoughts of riding the BRP all the way to Roanoke...never been much past the Pisgah Inn on the north end.
Bad324
That Sunday route I'm pretty certain that is the same route we did my last GAP trip. We left at 8am and returned around 8pm. That included several gas stops, lunch stop and a long dinner stop we were waiting out rain. It's a fantastic route
Bubba
I have thoughts of riding the BRP all the way to Roanoke...never been much past the Pisgah Inn on the north end. Joe: Might want to rethink this plan. The BRP is pretty to ride....for about a max of 30-60 minutes, then it all starts to look the same. Couple the seasonal influx of leaf peepers on a weekend and a 45 MPH limit on a federal highway, and it spells long lines of excruciatingly slow traffic crawling along the Parkway behind a 45' diesel motorhome with little or no passing opportunity. SO many other routes in the area that are as good with less traffic.

Didn't have any problems with traffic and I loved every mile of it. Just dont do it on a weekend, I did it on a Wednesday and Thursday. Tonik
I am leaving Monday, wandering to Lexington then the rest of the way Wed. I agree with Bubba, BRP is overrated but everyone has to try it once. As for Sunday look at the route, there are a decent number of times you can bail out on the southern leg and head to Robbinsville if you don't want to do all of it. 15/441 back up to Franklin. 17/16/129. Even on the western end you can bail on 64 over to 129 to save a little bit of saddle time. Edited September 28, 2015 by Tonik

ScubaCinci
So Bill, where ya going to meet up with us? I'm cool with doing that Sunday ride...when I was down there on my Z1000, I know after 6 hours I was very uncomfortable (damn seats) and just mentally tired which is not a good combo. I should be better on the Tenere...I'm just not used to doing 6+ hour rides but if I'm making the trip down I'm all for making the most of it. Bubba
Dan: NP. Welcome. I get the wander thing, but if you haven't ridden Hayter's Gap, maybe check it out. If you're into goat paths, look at Beech Mtn Rd/Poga Rd along NC/TN border. Pick up 1308 in Heaton at the bottom of 194 near the 19E junction and follow Beech Mtn>1312>Poga to 321 near Watauga Lake to bypass Banner Elk. And you can call me anything you want if you're buyin'....
