Back of the Dragon.

I'm thinking of doing a motorbike trip to ride the Back of the Dragon in southeast Virginia. It's 330 mile from Dayton. Is it worth the time. It looks like it a decent road. comments please. Thanks.

It is very much worth it, one of the better riding area's around. I would suggest you get to Marietta and pick up 16 just south of it in WV and follow 16 all the way down. The whole thing is very epic, one of mine and everyone else here's favorite routes. At the very least you MUST pick up 16 in Beckley and ride it down to Virginia.

No idea how much time you have but from Marion VA it is a not too far hop South West to Shady Valley and 'The Snake'. Not as epic as Back of the Dragon but a good run and lots of nice roads that will get you there.

Keep asking questions, there are a lot of us here that ride that area a lot.

@BudDaytonRat listen to Tonik. His routes have never disappointed. My buddy and I rode many routes near the dragon that he has posted on here. My buddy commented multiple times how his routes were top notch. I’m sure Tonik will be super humble about this compliment.

Tonik is right.  I love riding WV 16.  Even the sections north of Beckley.  If you have time check out Burkes Garden.  It's not far from 16.

I like to stay in downtown Marion and grab dinner and a few drinks.   There are a number of places within waking distance of a historical downtown.

Thanks gents. I mapped it out and didn't like all the slabbing. I found a route taking 23 to 460 to 19 to Tazewell. I'm an old retired dude so time is not a problem. I'll continue researching and if I have questions I will post. Thanks again.

Took 16 with @Pauly and @Tonik on the way down to the dragon and it was one of my favorite street memories to this day.
