If you lay the bike down, they take the brunt of the fall and in most cases lessen the damage to the bike by 75% or more. Its cuz those mount in the fairing screw holes, instead of the engine mount bolt which is much larger and stronger. Granted it was only I was only going 30, and the bike only slid at the most 5 ft. The only damage came from the actual impact of the car itself. P.S. Those are post wreck pictures.
