Maryland State Delegate response to Banning motorcycles

This is the response that was mass mailed / emailed out. I received a copy likely due in part to my email to his office regarding the banning of sport bikes. Basically I called him an idiot and the MD Police incompetent for the related death caused by their officer(s).

Thought you all might like to see and discuss:

It seems that my comments on the issue of sports motorbikes as reported in the media and on various blogs have not well represented the full scope of my views on this matter.

When news reporters sought out my views on this issue, I did express my support of a Maryland State Police recommendation to survey the states across the nation to find “best practices” with respect to effective laws and enforcement strategies to address this issue that is of growing concern among many motorists, traffic safety specialists, the law enforcement community and other first responders.

Only when prodded by news reporters about whether or not sports motorbikes should be banned from public roads and limited to race tracks did I state that it would be something to consider, but I said only if there was a clear consensus after a thorough review that this action would be in the best interest of the public’s safety.

My bottom line concern is about the safe and responsible use of ANY motor vehicle, whether it is a sports motorbike, a larger cruising motorcycle, passenger vehicles of all sizes, SUVs, tractor trailers, etc.

The safe and responsible use of motor vehicles across ALL classifications should be the focus of efforts to prevent traumatic injury on our roadways. Rather than banning an entire class of motor vehicle, it may be more practical to pursue legislative and enforcement remedies aimed at ensuring that the state of Maryland provides for enhanced penalties against ANY motorist who egregiously breaks our traffic safety laws, such as excessive speeding that pushes the limit 20, 40 or even more miles per hour over the posted speed limit. I believe there should be greater legal consequences associated with that level of excessive speeding and dangerous driving which goes beyond the current scope of Maryland law.

At the same time, I would like to see state and local police routinely conduct periodic highly visible enforcement of our traffic safety laws related to excessive speeding, aggressive driving, reckless driving, and impaired driving, to remind all motorists about the existence of our laws, the importance of driving safely, and the legal consequences of ignoring these lifesaving measures.

For 27 years – long before even considering a run for public office – I have dedicated my time and energies to advocating for greater highway and vehicle safety from a wide variety of approaches because I believe that the estimated 43,000 deaths and millions of disabling injuries that occur year-in and year-out on our nation's roadways are not just accidents or a matter of one’s fate or bad luck. When you look at the circumstances surrounding fatal and serious bodily injury crashes, the results are almost predictable and I believe they are also preventable.

In my view, the crux of this issue is about protecting the public’s health and safety, and at the same time ensuring justice for all law-abiding, safety-concerned people on our roadways who simply want and deserve a safe route to and from wherever they are going – no matter what class of vehicle they are operating or riding in.

I appreciate your taking the time to write and for giving me this opportunity to hopefully clarify my views on this important issue.

Sincerely,

Bill Bronrott

State Delegate – District 16

Maryland General Assembly

My reply was essencially that he can spend 27 more years and not get what he's after. What really pisses me off is he spews more of the same old, "cracking down, showing force, increasing penaties, etc.....blah, blah......how about the folks in Gov't actually STFU and try something new for a change. Spend the money on something that actually gets bikers in the area involved and allows them to use the bikes in a way that's legal and safer.

Wow, what a novel idea....spend money on working together and not against each other!

It's a fact that the police will never stop racing....it's impossible to crack down or modify peoples behavior. They have to create an outlet and allow the riders to change themselves. Nothing is perfect, but I'm damn sure they will get more cooperation working with the community that against them. It will likely cost less, take less time and be more benefitial too.

Shit I could go on, but I'm not in the mood.......I hope the bastard reads my email reply and listens to something.....

Well said Tim, I absolutly agree.

fuck politics

Fuck politics and they'll fuck you. You cant just ignore politics all together or you'll end up being fucked in the end. If you want something to happen theres a system in place to make it happen. System's not perfect but hell, at least its there. Say some radical wants to ban sport bikes, well if you ignore politics and he does whats neccessary to make this happen he'll get his wish and you'll be fucked in the end... that is if you like sportbikes... and who doesnt?

Just having skimmed the artical, my initial response is that this Chris Davies is a pussy boy who isn't into cars. Too bad for him. Pussy really is the word I think that describes that idiot. If he did his research he'd see that most higher performance cars are not in fact heavier.....what a dumb comment....and like most other cars, they are running cleaner than they ever have.

I say we invite him to a NASCAR event, get him drunk and stick a few beer cans in his ass.

Here's some commie bullshit politics thats similar to what you are talking about
