I have a teenage son that can take care of the mowing but I really appreciate the offer. So far they have tried morphene and didnt do anything although I am not sure on the dosage. She just gave me 6 oxycontine pills about 45 mins but nothing yet. They were giving me something I believe call diladid. It helped but wore off fast. The pain is so bad and unfortunately they say will be worse the day after. If only I could fall asleep. The cigarette patch is coming and I hope this may take at least the edge off at least from this angle. The worst part for me right now is that potentially one of our customers who's quality of work isnt as good as ours may take over the job. it sucks but this is usually how job site accidents play out. kirks5oh Posted April 16, 2009 Report Share Posted April 16, 2009 usually for severe crush injuries we have to do fasciotomies (cut the foot open in 5 places to prevent muscle death from severe swelling)---sounds like you didn't have to have that, which is good. not to make light of the situation, but it might not be as bad as you think. either way, if you want to post up quality pics of your x-rays (either before and/or after your surgery), i'll give you an honest opinion of what your prognosis is. unfortunately, many times the damage to the soft tissue is more extensive and harder to predict recovery, than the damage to the bones. either way, if you end up getting arthritis and chronic pain in all the small joints in your foot, the good news is that you can fuse all those joints without much consequence (as far as function goes), and it takes care of most of the pain. i'm sure your surgeon at riverside might refer you to a foot and ankle specialist if you need further surgery---i know a couple good ones around the city if you need a name or two. you'll most likely be off that foot completely for 3 months, and then start bearing weight slowly after that. let me know if you need help/advice--i can tell you what you're up against Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

wnaplay1647545503 Posted April 16, 2009 Author Report Share Posted April 16, 2009 This sucks I have never had a workers comp claim before but I am sue I will be losing money on getting reimbursed and getting the medical bills taken care of. I just came back to this company after being off about 8 months trying something new. They made me an offer I coudnt refuse to comeback and help things to start getting done. I think I can still sign up for cobra benefits and I will have company benefits come the first of may. Sounds like I will be forced to drain my bank accounts to make things meet and hopefully it doesnt ruin me. I think the wife may have to return to work. I really thought I would be here for a few hours and then a cast and gone but when they told me I may get out tuesday, my heart sank. when you get discharged, get copies of the x-rays (before, and after the surgery), since you might need them in the future if you go anywhere outside of riverside. like i said, i'll tell you straight-up what you're up against, and help get you to the best surgeons in columbus if you need more work done or a second opinion/etc. whatever you do, follow the physician's directions to a 't', as far as keeping your weight off of your foot/etc. this will be part of the medical record for the worker's comp. people to see, and it will not be good if they determine you didn't follow directions--aside from the fact everything can fall apart if you put weight on your foot too early. good luck--there's always a solution/fix no matter what Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've never had anything that bad to deal with worker's comp on, but it was taken care of. I wouldn't give much thought about bills, worker's comp will take care of the medical shit or a lawyer will. Missing work sucks, but I'm sure things will work themselves out. I know you don't know me but I love the CR community and like alot of people would help out in any way I can. They're great for things like dropping a cinderblock on your foot, or when you get mad and throw a running angle-grinder at your foot (not me, c'mon now!), but when it comes to real weight.... I had a co-worker who dropped a 4500lbs battery on his foot. The steeltoe part of his boot collapsed and basically squeezed his toes back into the boot, like smashing a phone book down on a jelly donut. They couldn't even try to do anything, just too much damage. Hopefully things work out for you, it's a good sign if they haven't asked you if you really NEED to count past 15..... One thing, and it sounds kind of goofy, try meditating or refocusing your mind on something simple. Thats about the only thing that helped me when i shattered my shoulder for the first 3-4 days. after that the pain meds seemed to work, and an added bonus it allowed me to drift off to sleep. I am sure I have been flashing my junk to every nurse(female only) who has come in. Finally they have worked out the pain medicine issue. Every hour on the hour I wake up because within a matter of 10 secs I go from hurting a little, to I'm looking for a saw to cut my foot off pain. They have this machine that has a tube going into the wound and is trying to pull everything together. Its amazing the body can remake its own blood because this thing keeps pulling it out.
