What Memorial Day really means...

It used to be called Remembrance Day (still is in Canada) and I think that name is better.

Kathy Lee on the Today Show, this morning, said something about memorial day being for the troops. Memorial Day is only for the fallen.

On the submarine, we set a complete place setting on one of the chief's tables and left it stand from 0000 til 2359. We kept it there for all of those that gave their lives in service, for those on "eternal patrol".

That's a common tradition done at Marine Chowhalls. Not just on Memorial Day, but all the time. There's always a place setting with the chair leaned against the table to signify that it is reserved for the guys that didn't make it back.
