cmoosego Posted February 10, 2009 Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 Ok fellas and ladies, now I realize most of you ride sportbikes but I figure you all have to have an opinion... I am faced with a choice, I need tires on my ride, so I have narrowed it down to 3 choices.... 1st choice and most expensive is the metzlers... around 430.00 out the door on my bike, 2nd choice are dunlops d404's around 320.00 (also out the door), and 3rd are bridgestone s11 spitfires 300.00 done deal.... so obviously I have bit of a problem... I can afford the most expensive, but i could also use the extra money to maybe get some new gear (probably rain related)... so I thought I'd throw it out there and see what y'all thought. Dweezel Posted February 10, 2009 Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 I'm making an assumption here that your not out dragging floorboard on the weekends, and that you just rack up crazy miles mainly on moderately curvy, or straight roads. That being said I'd go for the ones that seem to have the longest life. There are very few sport bikers on here that can out ride a set of tires, and given your equipment I'm not sure that it should be a concern to you. I'm planning on taking the bike to the pony and having them do the dismount/swap/balance/remount... and I know if they do it ya gotta buy the tires there... ReconRat Posted February 10, 2009 Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 Apparently a lot of the Metzler 880s are not German, they are made in Brazil, and those appear to be the ones that fail. I like Dunlop Qualifiers, but they sure wear out fast. My bike is a bit different, it can trash a front tire fast. Next tire will be one of the dual compounds. Not sure which one yet.
