Clifford Automotive
Go to COSI...you can see every street of downtown and surrounding on their walls. Thats where I spend most of my time. Even though Ive seen them so many times before.
Snowflake
When I first moved here I was downtown messing around and ended up in the basement of the Capital building. Its like a small museum and was originally built by using convict labor from the old penitentiary. If you ever get a chance check it out. Lots of interesting stuff there. BloodRed
You know it is funny how much time I spend up at the Mansfield Reformatory, and I know nothing about the Ohio Pen other than Nationwide Area sits there now.
RangerTurbo
My uncle did one of the last "walk throughs" (Columbus Police Officer) to remove the vagrants living there the day before they tore it down. That place was cool as hell.
smokin5s
so where's Ohio's maximum security penitentiary now? funny how I've lived in Ohio all my life and never realized that the maximum pen was in downtown or that the arena sits where it used to be... jeffro
We have a max security prison here in Mansfield as well. +1 this is the one i had in mind. it sits next to the old mansfield reformatory. the one used in the film shaw shank redemption. i went up there last Halloween for the haunted prison thing they do. first thing i remember seeing was all the inmates outside the newer prison. quite an interesting place. t-redjti
I too remember driving around it with my dad years ago, would have been a cool historic site if not torn down
Avenger1647545502
For more old building stuff, hit http://www.forgottenoh.com (the site owner did a book called "Forgotten Columbus" that has the history of some neat Columbus landmarks) and also hit http://www.illicitohio.com , that site is owned by a friend of his. Lots of good urban exploration stuff at both sites, and a fair amount of history too.
