i Have only written a front plate ticket 1 time..

why?

the guy was a prick..

driving a hummer doing 18 over in a 55..

i walked up and he started some crap about isnt it a law you have to wear a hat when out of your car.. blah blah..

i asked him why he didnt have a front plate on..

he said never had one

i asked.. plan on putting one on..

Nope.. he said..

Okay then..

i wrote him for speed and the plate..

Moral of the story "dont be a dick"

well at least he was being honest lol. I would probably have done the same (without being a prick about it though). It would be my luck that i would tell you some bs story about why i dont have and that im putting it back on when i get home, then run into you again a week later...

Here's a link to the House Bill, HB 107:

http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=129_HB_107

There are places on the left of the page to view where it is at in committee.

Law enforcement is fighting it hard again this time. They are saying all the new license plate readers they are having put on the cruisers use the front plate as a target, as well as the back plate. That removing it would mean they would only be able to check vehicles heading the same direction as the cruiser. And the Timothy McVeigh story has come up again also. We only got him because he was stopped for a front plate violation (while its great he was caught, that story gets old when told over and over again as a reason not to drop the front plate)

Anyway, thought some may like to see the link to the actual legislation.

I've had a thought, I like front plates but only the Euro plates, if I got a Euro plate that has the same letters as my rear plate, could I get away with it?

Nope. It has to be an OHIO BMV issued plate.

There is no requirement to have probably cause for running your plates. Police can and do run your plate all the time. Next time you drive by a cruiser from any dept with cameras on it, you're results will have already been scanned by the computer for violations including expired tags.

Presumption of Innocence only applies if you're being accused of a crime. Obviously if an LEO is simply scanning a publicly displayed license tag which has no expectation of privacy attached to it, then you're not being accused. He/She is simply doing their job.

Is getting close, but there is not much time left in the session. If you want no front plates in Ohio, contact Rep. Courtney Combs and ask him to bring HB107 for a vote in committee. Here is a link:

Page not found. I'm too lazy to go digging for the information, but obviously I support removing front plates. If someone tracks down an active link or email address I for one will send my support. Besides, the Impala is getting body work done now, I'd love to tell him to fill the holes in the bumper and repaint it.

Done. Unfortunately, even if it passes and we ditch the front plate, it will probably still cost the same for license/registration.

Of course it will cost the same, and I won't complain a bit if they let me ditch the front plate. Hell, I'd pay a little extra if it would get me out of the requirement to run a front plate.
