It may not happen as often as it should but I want to thank you for everything you do. That's kind of you to say, Brian. The truth is that meeting people on CR has enriched my life, and the little bit I give back is meager by comparison. I will keep the thread updated as things begin to take shape. I see that there is enough interest in this type of thing for me to continue to plan and negotiate the lease. Thanks to everyone who has brought up ideas. I hope I can put together something which will meet at least some of the needs and wishes that you've all expressed. Please realize that in its final form, it won't be exactly what any one person wanted, and it's possible it will be something that some folks may not want at all. But that's okay. ihateu3 Posted May 29, 2011 Report Share Posted May 29, 2011 One of my buddies has a wii he is getting rid of for next to nothing right now that i'd be willing to buy, get it modded and donate to the entertainment area. I may have an extra 360 soon as well As I said, I will donate any computer/electronic/networking services that are needed. I will mod the wii and the xbox 360 for free! I am sure I can scrounge up an old PC to be used as a file server also that can stream movies/pics/music to any networked device, including maybe a media PC to a TV if the setup goes that far. Hell, I have even built full sized arcade machines with over 5000 games and would be willing to do it again if someone had a cabinet! Also, very similar to an idea Norm and I talked about before, but more social, so to speak as opposed to business. I especially like the idea because it's so close to me. I know Puerto Ricans can't be trusted, but I think you have to have at least one, so... Crossle Posted May 30, 2011 Report Share Posted May 30, 2011 Almost have to have a core group say 5 people that have access to the garage, say they have to be competent in usage of the lift, trustworthy, friendly and all members have different times available around their work schedules to access the shop. Then, if someone not in the core group needs lift useage/storage you need to contact a core group member to accompany them to the facility. This limits the number of people with keys to the garage. To be honest, as far as the social group goes, I personally don't think it should exist. I feel like that the core group would be able to allow meets to take place and X number of responsible people would have to be present to allow garage access. Just say have a "cover fee" that needs to be paid at events, I mean I think to a lot of people to have a place of mature car folk is worth paying for. I also think more of this community may show up although the drive may put off some people. I would say that the garage/work area is NOT a hang out area, as tempting as it would be, it just shouldn't happen. Storage could be run by a sign in/sign out basis with a minimum of say 1 week. Even if you need a couple days you still pay 1 week at minimum. Mechanic fees ought to be paid per visit instead of monthly since I am sure the line would be long to use the lift. Doc, just be weary of the lift, people will need to remember that it is a priviledge not a right. So, no exceptions for "emergencies" since if it weren't for you they would have had to make due without the space anyways. Also thank you for what you have done for this community. It's staggering sometimes, I think there is some excellent feedback in here, but you may not need maximum security features if you keep it simple. FST94TSI Posted May 31, 2011 Report Share Posted May 31, 2011 One way to help with access is one of the alarms that I install can be setup for opening and closing reports meaning that I could set it up so that each person had their own code and when the armed or disarmed to enter or exit it would send a report to anyone we want in the form of an email thus keeping a record of who was coming and going and at what times. I know people could still slip in and out but if the people who input their codes now they may be responsible then they will be more likely to pay attention to whos there and what they may be doing. I wish I had something like this when I was younger, spent many days/nights working on cars in Apartment parking lots (where your not supposed to). It really sucked in the winter. I like the idea of cameras and key cards, cost might be and issue to have them installed, I dunno. I don't think there will be any problems, Doc already kinda has something like this going on now. Just looking to add a little more space. I hope this goes through, and the people that have access to this take advantage of the oppertunity. Thanks Doc for Offering this to us.
