stangsn95gt
Yes, they make some good rifles. Start a new thread if you are looking at getting a bolt gun there are more knowledgable people that me on here when it comes to shooting distance that can help you out. Start smaller.. like a good starting point is a Remy700 in 308 and learn from there. 300WinMag and 338Lapua are expensive to shoot and learn on. What is a good scope for it? budget is 150 or less. Congrats on your purchase. The optic question is kind of a loaded one though, especially at such a low budget. I'd say spend the 150 on flip/back up irons, get good with them, and save for a better optic, that also fits your needs. For what it's worth my first AR came with a Bushnell TRS-25, which for a budget red-dot, is very decent, and holds it's zero. I think those tend to be around 90 bucks. If you want magnification, a bit more cash will get you a decent Nikon, or Vortex. Just my opinion.
Radio Flyer1647545514
You could bump up your budget a little and get a Lucid HD 7. A lot of people seem to like them for the price.

2pointslow
I like the vortex, i suggest going and trying out a few different optics in your price range.
Ackbar00
Lucid HD 7 here. Got it used for around $100 I think. http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/ackbar00/IMG_1848.jpg
Diamonds
what about with 1.5 or 2x magnification?
stangsn95gt
what about with 1.5 or 2x magnification? are you looking for a fixed magnification optic or a non magnified red dot. I would suggest getting a good set of irons and starting with that, anyone can shoot with an optic but it takes some practice to use irons. Shmaa
The vortex strikefire will come with a 2x attachment
jerrodh
+1 on Iron's Vortex Strike fire for $150, Bushnell TRS-25 if you need to go cheaper but nothing else below that I would bother with. If you use the Vortex and you want magnification you can get a flip to the side magnifier. I have a 3x Sightmark that I use with my Eotech and its nice to get a bit more magnification for longer shots or smaller targets. Then you can simply swing it out of the way if you want the regular optic.

I still need to get some irons on this. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=655&pictureid=7045 http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=655&pictureid=7046
