So I got this text from California...(2007 CTS-V updates)

I'm your huckleberry. It already has a shifter (forgot what it was...will see once it gets here) but bushings/inserts sound great to me!

 

Great, I'm glad to see there will be another V in the area. Plus this will give me an excuse to go through some of the crap in my basement.

Saturday or Sunday at the latest. Unloading in Ohio, of course I'm one of the last ones off the truck apparently. I'd beeyotch but they said "end of the week" anyway, and not much I can do for an $800+, 2000mile carry...

So...super tired and exhausted but the transporter came this evening! Had to go to Lowe's at Mill Run (between Hilliard and Upper Arlington) to pick it up off the semi. Wes (TheMrWes) came with me, and he did me a solid because no one told me the transportation was C.O.D...I assumed they'd take a card! I pulled $500 and maxed my cash-out at the ATM. As I start cursing, wondering where the f**k they expect me to get $800 after business hours, wondering where to get a money order, etc...Wes immediately pulls $300 out of the ATM from his account and we pay the transporter. MUCH RESPECT for Wes...that was a solid move. :thumbup::thumbup:

 

Washed 2,000+ miles of dirt off, and took it up to Sonic. Impressive crowd up there actually, and I LOVED every mile I drove in the V. It's clean, it's solid, and it's mine. :masturboy: I'll post up pics tomorrow in the sun! :fuckyeah:

 

Only issue I experienced was the shifter: it was super notchy which I expected, but there's no center to it and it's tough to find the right gear. Feels like a bushing or linkage(s) are worn...

Just FYI, unless it is a brand name big transporter, they all want cash. Especially

Sub $1000 for cross country. You got a deal on that one.

Clay, I had IPS take care of my headlight lenses - they looked fantastic. Until that freakin teenager....

 

I may have to look into having them do mine. They are getting pretty rough.

Common complaint. Depends on which aftermarket shifter you have. Motor mounts and the trans insert help (but being already modded, they may have already been done).

 

There is a group buy for a new slave cylinder kit that was recently put together. So far everyone has given it pretty glowing reviews. Apparently many of the shifting issues these cars experience are attributed to the crappy clutch slave cylinder design.

Thanks for the comments, guys! I'll look into IPS for the headlights...my neighbor loved the V and gave me the Mother's NuLens kit he used on his '02 911 Turbo. I may try once myself before leaving it up to pros. Intadesting how the headlights look pretty crappy but the third brake light/spoiler and taillights look perfectly fine.

Matt (90G60), I'd love to meet you at some point if you're close by just because for as much love for the V as I've had, I gotta admit I've done ZERO research into mods/common problems and I would greatly appreciate V-related tips from guys like you, Casey, Tom (POS VETT) and others.

Clay, I used the 3m headlight restoration kit on the Focus as I was selling it and it worked great. Get the kit you attach to the drill, I can't imagine buffing it by hand. If it were a car I was keeping I would take the lights out and do them on a bench. It would be easier to do the edges of the headlight and 0 chance of damaging the cars paint.

 

First 2 pics are post and pre headlight restoration. I would say this is a 75% 'finished' job, if you call a prefect job 100%

So I jumped on the headlights for 30 minutes just now...I was very happy with how much clearer the lenses are, but look at DAT CRAZE...I don't think anything aside from aggressive plastic sanding and buffing is going to solve that much damage...thoughts?

I'd be pissed if it wasn't for the fact that it's a CA car and seems like EVERY CTS and CTS-V has some srsly hazy headlights. Will never replace them, but anything (sanding/buffing, Lamin-X) that people recommend...let me know.

Clay, that is why I took mine to IPS...deep scratches /hazing. I know you can wet sand them but I was not willing to experiment and took it to the professionals. Cost me like 100.00 and they looked brand new. I wills have spent 40+ on supplies, risked ruining the paint, and still not have it look as good.
