With more horsepower and a curb weight down 214 pounds from the last Camaro SS we tested, the new 2016 Camaro SS put down some frighteningly quick numbers at the track. The acceleration run from 0 to 60 mph took just 4.0 seconds, and the quarter mile was through in 12.4 seconds at 114.6 mph. That’s not only faster than the last Camaro SS 1LE we tested, but it also hangs with the 505-hp, 7.0-liter V-8-powered Camaro Z/28. A 2015 Camaro SS 1LE needed 4.4 seconds to hit 60 mph and 12.9 seconds to complete the quarter mile at 110.5 mph; the big, bad Z/28 also did 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and finished the quarter a nose before the 2016 Camaro SS in 12.3 seconds at 116.1 mph. The new Camaro SS has brakes, too; the standard Brembo stoppers brought the Chevy to a standstill in 104 feet from 60 mph.

3760 pounds with every single option checked on 20" wheels. 3652 for a 1ss!

From 100lbs heavier to 100lbs lighter than the s550.

The new camaro is putting up some impressive numbers.

I predict the 2017 Mustang will get a healthy refresh, and even things up.

Not a fan of the looks in the mags though.

Impressive numbers. Hot Rod just dyno'd one right off the lot. 405/405 RWHP/RWTQ. They also mention a "strange" dip in torque right after 6000 RPM - they suspect some sort of torque management or attempt to keep it under the Vette.

As far as comparisons to a 4th gen - I would LOVE for my 5th gen to weigh less but there is no comparison. My 4th generation, even with sub frame connectors and strut tower brace felt like a limp noodle compared to my 5th. With IRS on top of that it is hard to argue it should weigh 3200 pounds because the 4th gen did. Again I would love it to but it is not that type of car.

Great performance, and looks a little better? If they could just get rid of the massive slab-sides and super-high blocky ass I might go buy one.

new cars LOL high beltlines LOL safety LOL

is GM eventually just going to give up on windows in the Camaro? Looks like it's a bitch to try to see out of.

Seriously +1 to both.

It's like "maybe if we make the sides super tall and windows tiny, it will give it that chopped top, low roof look...."

In reality it looks like the end product of a car stuck on top of another, sitting higher than it should.

Conflicting reviews so far. Some say they are still hard to see out of and others:

Sitting in the driver’s seat, no longer do you feel as though you’re peering through a welding mask’s narrow porthole. The new Camaro is conspicuously airy, with far better visibility to the front and corners...Climate-control temperature and fan speed are adjusted simply by twisting the outer rings of the two central air vents—a brilliant touch

I've been pretty set on purchasing a mint, low mileage 4th gen SS at some point in 2016, but idk anymore. 5th gen prices are probably going to drop a bit with the new ones coming out, and there will certainly be a lot more to choose from.

For those of you with 5th gens, I'm curious to know how the 6th gens feel in comparison.

I really like the new interiors, but the exterior looks so "meh" to me. Solid numbers though, and to me, the current Z/28 seems stuck in an even narrower price/performance sliver now.

You mutherfuckers could bitch about anything.

I wish we still had some sort of rep system.

For people that use their car for more than cruising to and from work and putting around town, visibility, and being able to place the car is important. But you wouldn't know about that. :dumb:

Exactly. 0-60 4.0, 1/4 mile 12.4 at 115 - yawn ZOMG look at the Windows!

Good numbers for sure, 1le should be impressive.

Price difference between gt is substantial though.

I don't think it will be that substantial once all is said and done. Looks like a 2015 Mustang GT starts at 33k right? The 2016 Camaro SS looks like 37k. Question will be options and can you really find a GT for 33k? You might be able to - I don't know. I do know the Camaro SS comes loaded - would love to see a stripper model but do not expect to see one :(

Be CR, complain about "big ass", "slab sides", "weight"...and "windows".

Be Aaron, only read the windows part. Also, race with the car in "R". Also, seem not to understand that side and rear visibility would probably be as, if not more, important to someone "cruising to and from work and putting around town".
