Peddling backwards didnt make him go backwards at all, it just prevents the bike from stopping dead in its tracks. The gears are set to go only forward, so when the tire is going backwards it catches unless you pedal backwards.

That was AWESOME!! Very impressive. I love to mountain bike but there is NO WAY i can have that control. Nice find!
