What ended my Wayne ride Saturday?

I couldn't figure out what was causing the backfiring during the last couple rides since rebuilding the carb. Now I know.

Fortunately my buddy Greg and his Can-am Outlander Max 800R V-twin EFI 4x4 LTD Special (whew) towed me 2 miles out with a rachet strap.

Ok, I know I mentioned once or twice that I'm not mechanically inclined,

so I'm showing my mechanical ignorance.... what are we looking at here? Whats wrong?

its a cracked exhaust pipe off the engine. Weld that thing back together and call it fixed.

Looks like the carb cleanly separated from it's connection to the head. Least that's what i see.

I'm just spitballin here, but that looks like a quad to me.

It is a quad and that is a part called the carburetor joint, and yes, it is smoked.

It is made of rubber with a metal ring at each end. It split right between the rings.

good times!

Moral of the story? Always carry a roll of electrical tape on the trail.
