Can you park a motorcycle on a sidewalk

Hi,

I'm asking because I don't know if this is normal or ok in Ohio. I like the security of a bike part in front of a building instead of being parked in the back parking lots.

I never got fined or got shit from people when doing this in Cali and Europe.

I used to do that all the time. I haven't tried it lately. There are some new laws/rules for downtown Columbus that do not allow motorcycles and scooters parking on the sidewalk anymore. So now I don't know. I doubt it was ever legal, but was never enforced much.

I did always try to keep it out of the way of the pedestrians.

I don't know where it at and I want to say no you can't but Ive had some to stuff drink and really tired and I don't really remeber where that thread is at. Actually it all depends. If your at Iron Pony I think you would be hard pressed to find an officer hard up enough to start writing tickets.

You are correct, private property is a different story. Public sidewalk however, no.

This is good advice. There are places where it is tolerated. Not legal, but tolerated.

It all depends where you are, use your best judgment- Just don't be pissed off when your bike is laying on the side when someone who has a bug up their a22 doesn't like your parking job.

Actually, with the need for revenue being the way it is, I'd hesitate to try my luck with anything that might get me a fine, fee, or penalty. Times have changed.

i do it all the time. never had a problem.

just dont be a prick and park in front of someones door, or blocking the sidewalk. if you are out of the way, no one is going to complain.

I got a ticket for that once back in the '80's when I parked on the sidewalk in front of the Marine recruiters office. Cop had to be a total jackwagon to write a high school kid a ticket while he was joining the Marines but oh well. He was probably ex-navy.

you can, usually, park in the hash markings that are usually in front of parking lots (/////). just make sure you don't park in them next to handicapped spots.

In Ohio it's also illegal to put two bikes in the same parking spot. Although it takes an LEO with hand cuffs stuck sideways up their @ss to enforce it. So it is probably heavily enforced in New Albany and Gahanna.

That at least makes more sense then parking in non-parking spaces when there isn't an obvious or stated exception (bike shops,...)

I see plenty of people on campus parking right on sidewalks next to bike racks. I'd do it if I still had my bike.

Again, that is private property (technically). However, you need to watch the Traffic and Parking guys from OSU. They have ticketed marked CPD cruisers parked at OSU PD headquarters when we were there on official business (and have jurisdiction).
