Where have u guys taken it? i've tried a couple dry cleaners/shoe repair places but they say it needs a leather specialist. Plus putting my life in the hands of random old chinese women kinda scare me. Ive heard all about the guy/girl on the wera forum but looking to stay local. And by the way, I believe any leather care expert will be OLD.Also you might get on Wera and check out Barnacle Bob. Based in KY, and dude gets CRAZY reviews, CRAZY. I know shes been getting overwhelmed with stuff lately though.A lot of people have also used Bill and been very happy with what hes done and the price/turn around. jbot Posted June 30, 2011 Report Share Posted June 30, 2011 you're gonna look around, and end up sending it to barnacle bill/alexa. i've had work done by both (sad face) and all have been top notch (happy face). bill did a lot more work on my stuff than alexa, but they were both top notch and reasonable.i will say that barnacle bills's repairs may not always be "pretty" but they are always super heavy duty and you can bet your ass that shit won't come apart on you. KY is about as "local" as you're going to get.The only negative I've ever heard about Bill is that "Bill is a pattern follower. Alexa is a pattern MAKER." The criticism being that Bill makes suits by the measurements. I don't think Alexa makes suits, but she does the best alterations in the business.So a BB custom suit will get you 90% perfect fit, and then Alexa will take it the next 10% of the way. serpentracer Posted July 3, 2011 Report Share Posted July 3, 2011 barnacle bill's repaired my suit. but the work for the price wasn't what I was expecting.of course he had to sew the whole suit back together after the medics cut it off of me.but he missed a spot on the arm for one and it literally looks like Frankenstein. I was kind of pissed and very dissapointed. the guy was super nice on the phone but he didn't follow one single instruction I included with the suit.I wanted my suit's liner removed and sewn back together...what did he do?...sewed it to the leather so now it's a perminent part of it and I can't remove it to clean it. A local racer recommended her and I had her alter my suit once and do repairs a second time. Her stitching held up great during a high speed low-side. jbot Posted July 19, 2011 Report Share Posted July 19, 2011 i generally expect to pay around $50 for very minor stuff and $100 for a good sized patch (like, 6"x6" plus) and up from there if there are multiple areas that need repair.then you add in another $50 for shipping there and back. if you can find a local place (and let us all know your experiences like some have) and they are crash tested, even better.I did call up LA alterations once, and I think they told me they send suits out to some other place in PA or something like that. If I remember correctly she charged me $75 for first altering it, adding more room in the crotch and arms . And then $70 for crash repair which involved a large patch on the ass and mending the seam in the forearm and shin areas. And yes her work held up through my T1-2 lowside at Nelson.Each time I've gone in there have been a couple other suits hanging there.
