  2. The FJR does it all well, slab, twisties, it doesn't matter.

  3. Thats pretty porky for a SS. I think my SS CrossCheck with fenders and Marathon tires was not much heavier. I road that CrossCheck for years as my primary bicycle, including riding 60 miles of gravel hills on the Amish Country Roubaix last spring in Millersburg. I don't find the SS really much harder to ride, just a little slower on average. Mostly you have to let it coast more on down hills and be prepared to walk if it gets too steep on the climbs. Otherwise I do like the simplicity of the drive train. With minimal maintenance, it just works despite the conditions. Derailleurs get finicky about grime or corrosion from riding in muddy, wet or dusty conditions, and dont shift smoothly. The SS is much less sensitive. Adding gears does mean much less walking

  4. If you get right on the bumper of someone with an ezpass you can get through before the gate goes back down.

  5. If you take that route home paul I might tag a along. I would just jump off 77 at Ravenswood and take 33 towards Lancaster.

  6. Well at a last minute strike of luck, I am going to be able to make it this year. I will be leaving SEO early Thursday Morning and riding all the way down. Staying in the lodge. If anyone wants to ride down with me, they are welcome to.

  7. Well if you are picking it up in Akron in the morning, swing by on the way home makes sense to me. It is sort of on the way. Just text me an ETA in the morning. I will PM you the address and phone number.

  9. Whats the problem with the slab Thursday, it's less than 40 miles. It's already 7 hours in the saddle and we need time at the museum. I can certainly take the slab out if the collective wants but it seems like a decent way to get everything in. But I have a comfy couch and cruise control, and a cup holder so I get it if we need to change it.

  12. The thing about 555 is that it is damn hard, technical and up and down. You have to muster all the skill you got and all your focus to ride it well. That is the attraction.

  13. So....the single-speed is pretty much the coolest thing evar. Faster than I thought. Wow! I did find myself fingering shifters that weren't there. It's whisper quiet and man does it go, go, go! The tires weren't as big a hindrance as I anticipated. The freewheel is a bit noisy under heavy pressure. Toe overlap is a real big PITA, but I'll adapt. I put in ~25 miles and was not going slow. My legs are aware that there is a new sherrif in town. What a great after-work ride. The on-tap Chillwave and oven-fired pizza sure didn't hurt.

  15. Little FYI - watch out by Fugitive Dam on 129.... it's full of tar snakes right over the bridge on the north side. About watched the Goldwing and HD in front of me both lose it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk

  16. US-129 sucks too, but it's not the roads fault. It's all the asshats that (one) think it's a race track, and (two) the other asshats that won't get over to let anyone go by because their Harley egos won't allow it. The first asshats aren't as bad as the second ones.

  17. Going to have to spread them out over multiple days. I am old. 119 around Pikeville is actually pretty killer for a bit. Some of it is 4 lane, but it is in a giant valley, very scenic at times.

  18. Since we are taking the route 3 back road way from Charleston we will not hit any of the tolls in WV, or anywhere else on the way. I have one, it is the only way to fly. Other than the one time the gate came back down on me and hit the windshield then my face. Then the toll bitch waddled out of her booth and yelled at me, that didn't end well for her. She got written up and suspended for a few days. I got a new windshield, helmet and pocketed the labor for the windshield install. Hit me really hard, the helmet kept me out of the hospital.

  22. I agree with that. Most of the other complaints can be said about nearly every good road in SEO.I always thought blind corners and hill tops were just part of the attraction of riding in SEO.I'm sitting here running through all of the good roads down here and I can't think of one that doesn't have blind corners.I don't really care about how well they're marked,I quit relying on suggested speeds a long time ago.I can think of roads where relying on those signs can get you in trouble. As for gravel and debris in the road, again, you can have that every where down here. These are rural roads used by farmers, hunters, oil workers, loggers, off road riders and pot growers, just to name a few...dirt will get tracked on the road.Driveways?I don't know if 555 has anymore than most roads. As for the road condition of 555 from Zanesville to Chesterhill...I just rode this Sunday. As I said in another post the Muskingum county section was paved last fall. The section that is shared with 669 was paved about three years ago.Portersville to Ringgold is older, but still pretty good.South of Ringgold is the same as it ever was.So the northern part of 555 is about as good as it will ever be. I like the northern section of 555 from Zanesville to Ringgold, but then again I ride it at least weekly.I know what to expect and what to look out for. From Cannelville road to Ringgold would probably be in my top 10 SEO roads.I like tight tricky roads, high speed sweepers are fun,but I prefer the tricky stuff. To each his own. I wish more people thought like you guys,I could have 555 from Zanesville to Ringgold all to my self.

  24. Wednesday will be easy, our meet spot in Beckly is on 16. Just follow the signs for 16 until it ends, turn left and the hotel is right there. I will pull over both days as we get to the really epic parts and wave you speedy asshats past me also.
