  3. In. I know this place and the area. It is where I always stay when I am not with you folks. It is perfect. I suggested it last year but it was too late to change. Casper forgot I mentioned it and refound the place on his own. So we have the positive opinion of someone that usually hates everything and a retard independently. So we are good to go. You folks will love this place. And yea, you get Foothills Pkwy and the dragon first thing with no traffic. It also makes Maggie Valley and all those amazing roads reachable.

  6. Shannon and I were traipsing around in TN/NC/GA today. We rode to Clayton down 28, and due to weather we turned around with the intentions of finding alternate riding North. In Franklin I decided to go to Robbinsville for lunch. Check the GPS and saw Wayah Road looked great from the map, was clear of rain, and I remembered the name having been tossed around as a good ride. But if I recall, the condition was in question. I proceeded ahead, hoping to add its curves to my local knowledge, and lo and behold, the middle section has been repaved. 5 miles at each end are still a little rough, though not bad at all. Maybe 80/100. But the middle 20 miles is brand new asphalt. And damn is it a nice stretch of curves. There's a sweeper on that road better than any in the area. Amazing. Anyway, thought someone would appreciate the report. Have at it! Wayah Road is back!

  13. Countdown to blast off!!! ----------------------------------- Important stuff You are responsible for yourself. This is an "at your own risk" event. Motorcycling is dangerous. All roads are dangerous, but especially these. Be careful. Ohio Riders LLC and the owners of Ohio Riders LLC cannot be held liable for anything (like, but not limited to, traffic tickets, accidents, stupidity, death, etc). ----------------------------------- What is this? Ride your own ride. Enjoy the weekend. Be safe. This is not a competition or a race. This is just a good weekend away with friends new and old. It just happens to be a weekend for a bunch of us to meetup down there to have some fun. The weekend is up to you. When you come down, where you ride, who you ride with, where you eat, where you stay, etc is completely up to you. Nothing is officially organized. There are no set routes. There will be shindigs in the evenings involving a campfire for us to sit around and tell lies. ----------------------------------- Dates June 20-24, 2018 Yes, the dates changed. You can blame me if this causes any issues. My daughter's birthday lands on Thursday in 2018. ----------------------------------- Lodging We're changing it up for 2018. We've reserved all of Townsend Gateway Inn. That's 45 beds in total. Townsend Gateway Inn offers a lot of cool stuff for us. There's a conference room we can use for free, grills on the property, a pool, two fire pits (they even supply the wood for us), BBQ onsite, several restaurants nearby (including Trailside Steakhouse for those like me who were craving steak this last trip), wifi that actually works, cell phone reception, two miles from the entrance to Smokey Mountain National Park, etc. There are even a few gas stations and grocery/convenience stores nearby. It's only 45 minutes away from the dragon and (according to @Tonik) the roads are awesome. For those who like to head down to Georgia, it doesn't add much to the time/mileage. For those who want to dual sport, there are tons of gravel/dirt roads nearby. There are several others motels in Townsend if you'd like to stay somewhere else or if we sell out. Little River Bar BQ is across the street (suppose to be really good), as is River Rage Tubing for anyone who wants to go tubing. For those looking to camp, Ye Olde Mill Campground is across the street next to the tubing place, and several other campgrounds are just down the road. And for @OsuMj and anyone she suckers into hiking, the Townsend Historical Trail runs right in front of the motel. Townsend Gateway Inn 8270 State Hwy 73 Townsend, TN 37882 map The rates shown below include all taxes. 14. And hiking trails all the way to fontana!! There are some good trails around there. I'm excited already. I don't know what I'm going to do without the entertainment of waking up to Shawn swinging a fireplace shovel repeatedly as a mouse zigzags across the floor... guess I'll just manage with the clean rooms and functional appliances...

  20. Cabin was nothing special but fairly clean. I really didn't spend much time there because the weather was great and I was there to ride motorcycles not watch tv. The down side for me was not being able to contact home most of the time and a long way to go for a 12pk of Miller lite. Upside is leaving or coming back you get to rip down 28 and being able to bullshit around the fire at night without anybody bitching is pretty cool

  22. Came home last night, or early morning 5 am. Rode all night so jr can just sleep in car and not be fuzzy during day time. I hope he remembers this when he grows up, that his dad despite living right in the middle of motorcycle paradise for a week / just rode one day with friends for namesake, and instead chose to the Ride with him on little go around piggies bees and ducks in Dollywood instead.

  35. Smushed my ankle a little bit, but nothing serious... might have chipped the paint a little bit, but no biggie. I laid in the yard, reached over and hit the kill switch, laughed at myself, called Howard and asked him to come help me. All the riding that we did, the gravel, the deer, the uneven pavement, etc. I dump it in the driveway

  41. Disclaimer: Yea just like all motorcycle trips it is a out door activity and the weather will be a crap shoot. So I'm going to put this out there to all going. I will ride in the rain, didn't say we because you all are big boys and can makeup your own minds. If you make the decision to ride or not ride in the rain that is all on you and your riding comfort level and talent. If I roll and you say "fuck that" that is fine I'm not the boss and it's free country and no one will think any less of you. But also if you decide to roll with me in any kind of inclimate weather that is your choice and you can not judge me on my decision because "you didn't like it". That being said there is a very good chance of getting wet, things always change but right now it looks like Saturday might be a wet one and it's 50/50 on Sunday right now so plan accordingly. Hotels are book and my ultimate plan is to make it to those hotels every night. Now if weather it a total wash out and safety is a concern we can change the route on the fly and shorten it or find a freeway where one wasn't planned and get there a little quicker. First 2 nights hotels can be changed or canceled the day of check in, the next 2 nights require 24 hours advance for changes and cancels and 5th night is a day of one as well. So keep those time frames in mind for financial reasons if you have any back out plans due to weather or any other reason or if we need to make any mid trip changes due to anything unforeseen. Ive ridden with all you gents before and don't foresee any issues just wanted to put this out there. Going to tag everyone going in this post just so they know it was posted.... @2talltim, @JustinNck1, @Namdum68, @Al Z. Heimer, @Connie14

  43. Well GREAT NEWS!!..My back is "very stable" and looks like is healing better than the expected average time frame. Doc is actually a rider herself and after asking me several questions about my bike and seating position, she sees no reason why I could not make this trip. With a couple stipulations as more of a comfort level type thing. One, she wants me to wait the two more weeks before I try to get on the bike just to be ensure that everything has that extra time to heal over. Two, wear one of my braces the entire time I'm riding. Three, if my bike doesn't have a back rest try to put something on the rear seat that I can lean against if I would need too. Which I was going to have a dry bag with an air mattress and my extra jacket there anyway so that was kinda already planned. Four, take it easy. Five, this is the important one she says.... DON'T WRECK..LOL Have my next appointment with her the week after we get back from the Gap and she said most likely at that time she will tell me I no longer will need the brace and she doesn't see where any other Physical Therapy will be needed. So that is it folks trip is on I'm going couldn't be happier. . Doc gave a green light, wife is there to ask are you sure 50 times and healing faster than anticipated as I thought I was.
    1 point
  44. Heal time for the injury I have if nothing else has happened since my last xrays is 6 to 8 weeks then start physical therapy to get movement and muscles built back up for a other 6 weeks. This trip will be into that 6th week of healing. This is why I feel its doable and I'm optimistic. I honestly think the Doc will say I'm ahead of that curve on how I've felt the last couple weeks. I know doctors hear this all the time from people but really am a fast healer. When I chopped my finger a couple years ago and broke my wrist 3 years ago. Both those things healed in 60 to 70 percent of the average heal time. Hell I went on my first 2500 mile bike trip with Dan four weeks after I broke my left wrist. Stitting at the hospital now, had to get here early to get the xrays, other appointment is at 1:30. The wife is with me so I can't lie and say the Doc said it would be okay, she won't let me...lol
    1 point
  45. Well only the xrays will tell. If the Doc say no way I'll listen. Personally I fell riding my bike is more comfortable than riding in a car, only time the size of my bike is a strain is when I try to make it do things most people would never do on a lighter bike. For the most part I'm just sitting on it letting it do the work and know ill have to turn it down a lot of notches. Like I said we'll see what the ol neurosurgeon says tomorrow after looking at the new x rays.

  46. Going to the Doc tomorrow folks. Im optimistic I'll get a caution light to go. Don't think the doc will says yes but don't think ill be shut down either. Ive been feeling really good lasy week or so and have a new brace now that is less confining. Sorry to keep you all on pins and needles about this but I didnt have any real news yet. This time tomorrow I should know. Sounds like most of ya'll were still going anyway.

  47. I'm still 50\50 I'm not out yet. I have a Dr. appointment on the 18th and that will be the day I decide. My back feeling better although yesterday I made a trip to Lancaster with the old man in his truck and was pretty sore by bed time. As long as the Doc say I cant hurt it anymore and the pain is at a moderate level I'll still go. So stand by if your wanting to know about me.
