  1. I was at the hospital for over 6 hours yesterday and I've gotten a much more fuller story. The honest truth is he is in real trouble. He is unable to do basic commands such as squeezing his hand. This falls on the same level of brain functioning as swallowing, so the neurologist believes he is unable to swallow either. As a result, they can't remove the ventilator in fear he'll suffocate on his own saliva. Therefore, they can't un-sedate him fully because of the ventilator. He is unable to breathe continuously on his own, he tries like hell, but just can't do it. They've taken him off Fentanyl (pain med) to see if that will improve his situation. They are going to attempt another test this morning to see if he's able to complete these tasks. He is only responding to pain, no other stimulus seems to get a legit response. The neurologist believes he has damaged part of the brain that controls that. 72 hour is the threshold where the brain should be capable of doing whatever it's able to do. We are at 144 hours now. The reality is he is in real trouble. Things are looking much more grim today than the last 4 days as his improvement has stopped and we now believe he has some significant brain issues. They are going to bring in the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion. We can't give up hope, because if there is anyone who is able to come back from this, it's John. Unfortunately, reality is what it is. Everyone keep praying or doing whatever you do to bring good vibes to John. He needs everyone's support! Keep fighting John. The amount of people I saw come in to support John yesterday was incredible. There was 10-15 people there continuously. Friends, family, bike family. He's influenced so many people it is incredible.

  4. So.im.out on some.real backroads today, the kind the GSA was.made.for. the road just qualifies for having a centeline. So I get up behind Buick suv and he's going really slow and weaving a bit. I figure its grandpa out for a Sunday drive. Suddenly he brakes, then speeds up. I go left, he goes left. I ease back, then come up close again. He goes left. He puts his left signal on so I go right. He goes rightand stops .. I stop. He gets out of the car in the middle of the road and comes.at.me. his eyes are like saucers, beet red face. Not an old guy at all...maybe 35-40. starts cursing and yelling.about how I cant pass on a.double yellow line. I yell back "I sure can if youre a slow.moving vehicle like a goddam.Amish buggy, and driving like a moron!." I swung wide and passed quick. Freakin meth-heads!

  8. VFR work today by OCD on Demand Strip the body.. Remove steering stem bearings, replace with All Balls. (BTW, Park Tools are awesome) Rebuild front calipers. Disassemble, clean, clean, new seals, reassemble….. Disassemble and replace fork springs, replace seals, reassemble Rip out pair valves pump & system, install custom plates, my design. Clean, reoil BMC air filter and re install. Drain and Replace coolant The bike cooks my ass, so I cut out custom shape heat shields, one in front of the rear header (cut, fit, cut, fit, cover with Heatshield Products stick on fibre glass tranny material, one in midframe using Design Engineering material and then the same with cover the underside of the seat. (No more hamburger, I hope.) Also build heat shield enclosure for the starter solenoid and fuse box area. (It gets cooked by the rear headers, ---Stupid location Honda!) Re route stator and R/R wiring, with a new R/R install.. Snip, crimp, heat shrink, Snip, crimp, heat shrink, Snip, crimp, heat shrink, more heat shrink, and more heat shrink, tape it, zip tie it, burn it, kill it, beat it to death…. Damn, still not satisfied… next winter. Drain and clean clutch master cyclinder, add speed bleeder to clutch and bleed baby, bleed. Installed forks and set to correct height. Installed front wheel and set torques to factory. Reinstalled the RC51 calipers that I just rebuilt. New speed bleeders installed, hook up steel lines, -- and bleeeeed, c’mon, bleeeed, bleeeed, baby bleeed. Lock the lever overnite with zip tie….. Reassemble front end body, and install new zero gravity windshield…. With the top cowl…. Install side instrument panel covers….. damn this 5mm screw, stupid, stupid, why is it fighting installation? Spent a fucking hour on one 5mm x 6mm long fucking screw! Jeez! MF! (got it finally) Mirrors on… Fire it up!! Yeeeesssss! Then went to breakfast…

  9. Saturday the 22nd. Kickstands up at 10 AM at the Minut Mart in Wooster. Can't start earlier than that. Happy to pick anyone up along the way except the two 's. Pace will be Medium + to Medium Fast. I will do my usual 70ish on the straights and as the day wears on and I get settled in a bit I will slow down less for the corners. No problem if the faster peeps want to blast ahead and wait for us at the next stop or corner and I will certainly wait for anyone if you are slower than me. Ride your own ride and all that. Below is the route, it is the same route that Ricer1 and I took last Saturday. It will be a longish day, so time at stops need to be a bit of a minimum. No mad rush we got daylight till 9PM but no major dicking around. Lunch will be at this crappy little ice cream place that has hot dogs and pulled pork and stuff right after 255 on 7. https://goo.gl/maps/FEH7cUXewNH2

  12. I'll never understand why people feel the need to police the road? We pay people to do that job. If I can pass you without you having to change anything about the way you are driving (brake, swerve, etc) why does it bother you?

  13. Tore down my front brake calipers to clean them up. Other than thousands and thousands of miles of Road crud the seals and pots all look good so I just clean them up and reassembled. Put them back on the bike and this is how it went. Spent 45 min bleeding them. Went for a ride Garbage Bleed them again Went for a ride Garbage Bleed them again Went for a ride Better but still soft Bleed again Went for a longer ride Much much better still a tad soft. Crack a couple beers, bleed again.Put a zip tie on the lever to sit over night will test ride again tommorow. Oh yea, I washed it too.

  20. Wow.Ninjadoc....thanks for all the input. I think all this helps to address the op's "VFR Questions". Pointing out the +/- of the VFR and the FJR is intended to help answer this question. The BMW certainly has some shortcomings, and as ive stated, the engine note is not my favorite. And, the rattle out of the engine itself is annoying as hell. It does nothing great, but it does all riding well. Id much rather have a fjr on the slab, for example. It's extremely high and a major bitch in the parking lot! I cant even get it off the sidestand if I park on a little slope! And again , id likely not have a bmw if there wasnt a dealer 2miles from my house.

  21. chance of foot peg scrapping goes up as the this equation gets skewed ( counter steer + body position ) - motorcycle lean angle = less chance of scraps and " oh crap" Almost all modern day sport /sport touring bikes have enough basic design to be better than us measly peasant riders riding on streets. ( no cruisers/choppers included in this classification) This guy is probably a constant scrapper/ not bikes fault

  27. It is a lighter bike on hind sight, but at that time I was coming from a Vfr 800 to this one, and the bags were loaded to brim plus some. I still haven't loaded up the fjr like that yet. Honestly RT was more relaxed and fun to ride, closer to touring, I would choose it again to tour. And the fjr is more mean and exciting closer to sports bike and would choose this when solo touring through back roads. Kinda vague description, I know. Just trying to explain the heart and soul of motorcycling is difficult.
