Not much of this existed when I learned to ride. Simple helmets and simple leathers were all there was. Gloves and boots were nothing special. Motorcycles that did more than 100mph were not common. Helmets were worn (almost) all the time, and leathers were for cold weather. I learned to apply the tools to the job. The same way a pilot will wear certain gear for certain aircraft. You won't need a high altitude pressure suit to fly a cargo plane. Yet the risks aren't much different. The aircraft is different, and requires behavior and equipment choices that match. So if the pilot climbs out of the SR-71 and demands that the pilot of the biplane should be wearing a complete pressure suit, he'd not only be wrong, he'd be a bit weird. I'd much rather have riders concentrate on improving riding skills, and not focusing on bouncing down the road testing full gear. So life existed before the argument. There's something to say for that.
  3. Yeah, I only got up there once or twice last year. And after accidentally parking with the Busa Boyz... none of which I recognized... I just don't know... Still fun once in a while. Wanna go? Maybe the July 4th weekend thing? You'll do that one.

  5. Again, think about what you are doing when riding with a passenger. Rider in control has been indicted for homicide. Middletown Man Indicted In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Naked riders; 1. Mostly never go faster than 45mph. 2. Have temp permit. 3. Haven't experienced contact with pavement yet. 4. Can't afford gear yet. 5. All of the above. Pick one...
  7. I've read about the special plate scanning. With the extra cameras. There will be more like it in the future. I-70 out east has a Picktown unmarked on the freeway. It's black, but I thought it was a Mopar.

how the heck did I double post... move along...
  10. I can't see it in there in the pics, but it would have the two little notches like the adjuster on a swingarm. I would think it would vibrate a bit without it. And vibrate a lot if the one above it was missing or backwards also. edit: I used to loosen and re-torque engine bolts and exhaust bolts to reduce vibration. It helps a lot sometimes. Doing the same for the front forks can improve the way the bike handles sometimes too. But only if it's torqued correctly and in the pattern indicated in the service manual.
  11. Yeah, was outside looking at the june bugs. Lots of them. Perhaps the only bug that isn't fooled by a yellow bug light on the porch...
  12. Yeah, it takes up the slack between the engine and the frame, I think. Your pic makes it look like it was maybe installed from the outside instead of the inside... I think the engine has to move to get the part in? edit: note that there is another one like it up above it. There is a plug cap over it.
  13. And... what happened? Other than a ton of rain in April...

  22. Operators can draw upon a fairly wide variety of weapons, to meet the needs of a mission. Generally it will be weapons that have been tested thoroughly and found acceptable for use. Weapons used, are modified as required. Personal weapons can be almost anything, but still tend to be from the ranks of acceptable weaponry. And yes, Sig Sauer is pretty high on the list. edit: Here's a list of what personal weapons are admitted to being commonly used by seal teams, circa 2005. Beretta M9 9mm Colt M1991A2 .45acp Heckler & Koch P7M13 Sig Sauer P226 9mm S&W revolver 357mag (H&K) MK23 MOD .45acp offensive handgun with suppressor and laser aiming module
