  1. Welcome. Marietta is an excellent place to live if you like to ride. We were just through there on Sunday (550,26,260,7,800).
  2. Check out the new Yamaha 850 triple. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2013/06/yamaha-unveils-2014-fz-09-850-triple/ Looks like fun. I want to take one on a (500 mile) test ride.
  3. Nice pick. The fun is just starting at 10k on that, no?
  4. Did 444 miles on my 1000rr Sunday averaging 32mpg. My wifes Ducati gets about 50 mpg when she rides it &I in the low 40s when I ride it. My 250r gets low 60s but is only 23 HP so it's ridden WOT a lot. I would say you've got nothing to whine about.
  5. I used pointed tip set screws & ground some wrench flats near the pointy end. You could just as easily cut some pieces of threaded rod, chuck them up in a drill & run them up against a grinder (or a file if you don't have a grinder) to put some points on them.
  6. One thing I forgot to mention. Make sure the transfer screws are screwed in so the points just touch the fairing with the fairing in the normal mounted position. If the transfer screws stick out too far are are in to far your hole centers will be off location.
  7. Welcome. Nice bike. I installed some Woodcraft sliders on my 1000rr without problems. Just make some pointy head transfer screws, detach the fairings at the rear only, remove the frame bolts (being cautious I only did one side at a time), pull the fairings back enough to install the transfer screws, press on the outside of the fairings in the vicinity of the transfer screws to make a "center punch mark on the undersides of the fairings, remove fairings, pilot drill through from the undersides of the fairings, 2" hole saw through from the outsides (to avoid burrs) of the fairings, install metal frame slider "studs", install fairings, install plastic frame slider "pavement contact pieces" & you're done. These are something nice to have that you never want to use. Good luck & I'll see you on a twisty road sometime.
  8. I wear plugs whenever I ride. The intensity of wind noise is deceptive because it is high frequency. It will damage your hearing if you don't wear plugs.
  9. Who's in? Who's out? Why? I ride to work pretty much every salt free day anyhow so I would probably be in if I didn't even know about this. I thought it would be good to spread the word though. If we could talk a few riders who don't normally ride to work into doing so on Monday June 17th the extra motorcycles on the road would help raise motorcycle awareness among the ignorant.
  10. Howdy. OR has more. Stick around & find out more what.
  11. Welcome. You're going to have to get up pretty early in the morning to be on time for our group rides.
  12. Don't we have a few stunt guys on here? Maybe they could do a good deed & offer up an invite & some enlightenment. All this guy is looking for is someone to ride with. (& maybe some advice about proper gear)
  13. If Honda would have had these out when I got my 250 I probably would have picked one up for my commuter instead. Nice work by the way. I would be interested in hearing your/your wife's riding review.
  14. I wouldn't be so concerned but I have some license points that I would like to see evaporate soon.
  15. I would except it's a holiday weekend with lots of po po overtime. Hope you don't have to hear anything about your "purdy mouth". Speed safely.
  16. No Shinkos for me thank you.
  17. Just got 26K miles out of my last chain on the 1000. Wiped with a rag, sprayed with Honda Pro-Lube with moly & wiped down again every 300 to 500 miles.
  18. That was an interesting social phenomenon Doc. Thanks for organizing the whole thing.
  19. You sure are a feisty young guy. Nobody's going to make you change.
  20. My opinion is neither right or wrong. It is merely my opinion. Poll 100 drivers how they feel about you coming at them with your brights on & see how many have a favorable opinion of you.
  21. High beams in the eyes are obnoxious. They are designed to light up dark roads when there is no oncoming trafffic. If you ride with them on during the daytime towards me I will do likewise whether in my car or on my bike. There are other less obnoxious things you can do to make yourself seen. Bright gear, lane position, bobble, etc. Yes, the msf course taught you to do this. They also teach you to use 4 fingers on both the clutch & brake, no brakes in the corners, brake before all corners, etc. They also teach about target fixation & high beams give drivers the perfect target on which to fixate.
  22. It's not that cool to ride with only one headlight but it is totally uncool to ride around with your high beams on. As said above, right side= low beam, left side= high beam.
  23. Helmet cam. As group lead I was checking my speedo (70 in the straights) & mirrors quite a bit. Sorry for the crappy video but this is my 1st attempt at videography.

    Close call

I bet you could have ridden right through it at speed no problem.
